Disney Wish maiden voyage & Animal Farm

Sorry if I highjack the thread but... This... + the number of suites (and over the top two story suites) advertized: I feel more and more like DCL is trying to exclude the middle class from their ship (And parks!)

As a business, they are entitled to do whatever they want... But it’s sad when people who used to be able to afford them cannot do it anymore.

Sadly, this appears to have already been the case for a long time. I am fortunate enough to have the income to afford these vacations on a regular basis, but if my household income was the U.S. median? Yeah.

I noticed the prices going higher and higher but I'm expecting the worst for this one and the amount of attention and space put on all the suites makes me believe that this one is going to be off limits for many people.

Are you really trying to sell your CC advantages? :confused3:confused3

As you said it is meant to be a reward for loyal customers, not to make profit off.

edit: spelling of customer
And there it is.... platinums trying to profit.... and sell to bloggers and vloggers - its poor taste
Hmmmm, I read that as a joke. Laughed when I read it. Never thought to assume it was an actual comment where someone was trying to get another person to pay for their cruise, how did you come to this conclusion? However it happened, if that was in fact their intent, :confused3. Still, odd that we read it differently.
Anyone wants to pay for my cruise I might consider it as well, lol. Just to clarify, that is a joke.

Going slightly off topic, and from a purely theoretical pov, as I have never cruised...

Other than the thrill of being first, what are the advantages of a maiden voyage? Usually with shows, restaurants etc it's a trial period, soft opening... Just seems like a lot of money when things are not yet optimized.

Thanks in advance for explaining 😊
I think it's mostly to be the first to sail on the ship. It's funny Royal and Carnival have ships they've been trying to sail the MV on for over a year now. When cruises resume there's going to be some lucky people sailing on a Maiden Voyage that didn't intentionally book it.

There’s also exclusive merchandise. I’m not a “merch” guy at all, but exclusive merchandise is a big deal for a lot of people

I’ll bet the Summer 2022 sailings (if not all sailings for the first full year) will sell “Inaugural Sailings”-branded merchandise, but I think there will be “Maiden Voyage”-branded merch only available on that 5-day MV sailing.

Perhaps someone who sailed on previous MVs can fact-check me?

We are Platinum with 15 nights so we fall into the 3rd booking window. I've asked our TA (Tracey at Dreams) to try to book us in a veranda cabin on the inaugural cruise. Scared of the price, but hey....

If we get it, can you imagine the terminal when its time to check in? I'm guessing that pretty much everybody sailing will be Platinum and that check in station will be overwhelmed.

If that indeed turns out to be the case, then I guess all check-in stations could be “Platinum,” couldn’t they?

Platinum, 34 DCL cruises, and sent Tracy, our DU TA, our information yesterday. Our first DCL Cruise was in 2004, for DH’s 60th birthday. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to book a MV. DH has sailed 29 DCL cruises. :goodvibes :boat:

I am also thrilled that it will not interfere with our DCL EBTA next May!

How about trying to book dinner at Palo!

Platinum here but I don't care how they break it down. I would never pay the cost of a maiden voyage, ever. DH and I were discussing it just today and we both agreed, for us, it's a waste of money. We booked the second sailing of the Fantasy just to avoid the maiden, turns out they switched first sail date so we actually ended up on the third sailing. So would you be prepared if the same thing happened on the Wish? If they switched the first sailing a few months before? Are you prepared to lose your 20% deposit if something happens that you can't go? That 20% deposit will be hefty as the cost of a maiden voyage is extreme. Plus you probably will have a large number of new crew who are in the learning stage. Our sailing of the third cruise for Fantasy was a bit of a mess because of this. The dinning staff was all new and one hand didn't know what the other was doing. It wasn't the flawless routine we were used to. Not a huge deal but just not what was expected so be prepared in case.
I know lots love the maiden voyage, I don't mean to slap it down. It's just not for us and you really need to think out all the details before you commit. I do hope everyone who wants to sail gets to. Vacations are to short and to long in between. Good luck to all!

Where are the prices listed for this cruise? Are you just saying maiden voyages are extremely inflated?

We were actually on a cruise that went out of PC that had so many Plantium cruises that they setup the checkin at the Kids Club desk instead. And they had the Kids Club checkin as a mobile check in sort of thing.

Had to re-read my post to make sure I didn't indicate that I had inside knowledge of the fares, which I don't. Lol.
Yes, I am just saying that maiden voyages are extremely inflated!

I agree. No interest in a 3 or 4 night cruise or any Bahamas cruise. I’ll wait until they offer 7 nights on the Wish.
My husband thinks they’re starting with shorter cruises to work out the kinks before shifting to longer cruises. I hope he’s right because I would like to go on Wish, but we’ll stick with our 7N Western for next summer.

Imagine being the one first time cruiser that landed a cancellation room by mistake :)

Even if they infiltrated the Platinum line(s), they’d still wind up getting the last boarding group, I bet.

My understanding is that the Wish is taking over for the Dream. Hopefully the next Triton class ship will be for longer cruises.

We loved the Maiden voyage on the Fantasy. It was not strictly about being first. There are media cruises before the official maiden. The special entertainment( Lea Saolonga and Steven Schwart), the imagineers that lecture, the top executives that sail with you that you can ask questions of all made the maiden a unique cruising experience.

The Dream has always been their money maker. It brings in a lot of first-time cruisers. It was our first cruise and what got us hooked. It makes sense to me. I'm guessing the Fantasy or Dream will go to Europe in 2023,
