Disney will find a way to make a Marvel 5th gate

Yikes, talk about going off the rails, my friend. :rotfl2:

I was more intrigued by your previous comment that Avengers will "hit the wall...somewhere in the low 300's." (It may be in the low $300s by the time you read this, and isn't half-way to the 17-21 day mark you cite.)

As for the other confusing diatribe, yes, consumers are stupid. Yes, they spend hundreds-of-millions on dreck. And yes, when adjusted for inflation most of the numbers don't compare to the days of yore.

In this particular case we're talking about a record-setting film which received near universal praise from critics and the public.

Does that mean there will be Marvel heroes scattered around the Disney parks in a few years? I have no idea and it really didn't factor into my comments.

they leave their stuff in place for 20, 30, 40 years relatively untouched. that isn't what comic books character attractions are going to get them. they will become stale and boring...not what can be considered "classic" like small world, the haunted mansion, and pirates of the caribbean.

You know, if we were talking about Avatar or The Mummy or Men in Black, I would wholeheartedly agree. But the characters in this film have a history dating back more than 50 years. Avengers won't earn a billion dollars solely from the wallets of 8 year olds and fanboys.

Might be time to acknowledge that costumed heroes are a bit more mainstream in 2012 than the were in the 80s. To some folks, they are just as timeless as pirates, princesses and costumed rodents.

Lockedout, just by the way you are starting to refer to other movies and things in general, it seems like you just don’t like them, and that’s OK, but it doesn’t prove anything other than you don’t like them. Yes Disney has many things that are classic and stick for years, they also have things that don’t, AE, now Stitch, probably will end up as something else again. Mr. Toad, both 20k Leagues under the sea, most of future world in EPCOT etc…and the Mainstays are always getting upgraded HM, POTC the list of these type of things go on and on. As much as things seem permanent to you they really aren’t.

Also I love how you couldn’t get enough of Comics Transformers etc. when you were a kid, but now you’ve grown up…But you’re a Disney lover just like us…loll So Capt. and Ironman are bad, but Mickey and Co. It’s a small world (which you mention) is totally way more grown up….yes your choices of fun and fantasy are way more important and sophisticated then mine.

WOW.

As the mother of a 6 year old boy and a 4 year old girl, I would absolutely love it if Disney did something with the Marvel world in the parks. I think a lot of mums of boys would. However, I will also confess my own inner geek and long-standing love of the Marvel universe, going back to the 80s. It would keep our dollars in Disney for more years. Otherwise we'll have to move a good chunk of time over to Universal in another couple of years to keep the boy happy.

So what am i saying?
Kids are stupid. And because they put up what seems like "huge" numbers for the time...that doesn't indicate development worthy theme park projects.

adjusted for inflation...these movies are a fraction of the influence of even the 80's level blockbusters...lets face it.

I hate to be the wet blanket....but we kinda need it. if anything - at least in the united states - that the people need more of...its daily reminder to make logical decisions based on the facts available.

I liked the Avengers, I've seen it twice, third time this weekend. I've been a Marvel fan my whole life. It was a fantastic movie, way better than any of others people are referring to or comparing it with. I however, do not want to see this in the parks EVER, nor do I think they will bring it into the parks.

Also, while I'm only 18, I still consider myself a kid, and I am not stupid, I know what I like. To generalize a group by calling them stupid, makes you the stupidest of them all.

How can you even begin to predict what the influence these movies are going to have? You can't. No one can, that's why its called an influence, and we won't know their degree for some time, probably 30 years since you're comparing it with the 80's, which might I add had many flops of its own, but I won't go there.

Logic is key, and I agree we need to use it more, but you're not the only logical one around. I'm not saying you think that, but you certainly give off the feel that you don't think we have a worthy degree of sense. We have opinions, that will never change, and whether the logic behind them is just a pile of crap, or the most glorious thesis paper ever written, you can't we lack logic.

Summary: Avengers was great. I don't want it in parks. Kids aren't stupid, so don't say that. We can't say whether or not these movies will have influence, because influence needs time. Everyone has logic, just as they have opinions.

Marvel has a ton of influence and power. The avengers isnt the only thing marvel has so you can't just view a single title when it comes to how much influence and staying power it has, you have to think about all the individual characters. Not only the avengers but spiderman, x men, etc. Every kid has at some point imagined themselves as a super hero fighting bad guys, how can you say marvel doesn't have influence or staying power when it's been around for over 70 years! When Star Wars was made how many people thought that would still be popular nearly 40 years later.

Remember the people on this board represent a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of the people who visit Disney parks, just because people on here say they don't want a marvel section doesn't mean the average guest doesn't. A marvel section would bring a staggering number of new people to the parks.

Now with all that being said do I want to see a Marvel section? Yes for the same reason I'm excited for Avatarland (never saw the movie, don't want to) just to see what Disney can do with it.

Will Disney ever build a Marvel section? Not anytime soon, and probably not ever. In 10 - 15 years it wouldn't surprise me if they announced plans for one but I doubt it will. I don't think you will ever see a sole theme park dedicated to marvel, I just don't see how they could do it and who knows where they could put it. I do see them adding a Marvel section somewhere, which if anywhere it would be Hollywood Studios.

And yet, IOA has had a Marvel section since 1999 with one of the greatest dark rides ever made, but attendance was never staggering until Harry Potter was built.

Yes and after about 13 years Sdiperman is still considered by most to be not just one of the top 5 but 2 or3 rides in all of orlando, not to mention untill Harry most people would say there were only 3 big reasons to vist IOA Spidey, The Hulk, and JP.....which after the still very new and ground breaking HP ride, those 3 are still the top reasons to vist not just IOA but probably Uni in general. So Marvels treated UNI pretty good, I think the didnt do a good job with it to start, deffinantly no where near as good as Disney could do.

Please explain in detail how Disney could have done a better job with Marvel.

Iger has come out saying there will be Avengers 2. He also said that there are plans for avengers themed attractions, however none in the making for orlando.

In my opinion, Marvel Island is with the exception of Sipdey and Hulk, just poorly done. It looks kinda lazy. When you compare it to the level of detail and imersiveness with just other places in IOA like JP, or Lost Continant...not to mention HP ( Hard to do because its 13 years later but oh well)...that land just isnt up to par with the others, and when you compare it to the fact that the overall themeing and feel is sooooo close to parts of Toon Lagoon. They couldve left Toon Lagoon toony , and done Marvel more realistic...it just seem like both of those areas where they didnt know what to do they where like just add the cartoon/comic art here...make it look like pop art etc... I just feel like they couldve done so much more than giant cut outs.

So not only do I think Uni themselves did better and as a company is capable of better, I honestly believe no one is as good at total emersion than Disney...HP is really good, but lets wait for FLE....I think that may be close. Cripes look at the new train station, thats more emersive and better detail than all of Marvel Island...lol

You stated Disney would have done Marvel better and all you've done is state why you think Universal didn't do a good job.

So I'll ask you again...please explain in detail how Disney would have done Marvel better. Keep in mind that had Universal and Marvel never struck a deal to use Marvel's characters in their parks, we would not be having this discussion. Tell us how Disney would have come up with a more detailed area and again...be specific.

The land itself is poorly-themed, IMO. The painted character cutouts evoke some of WDW's worst areas including Animal Kingdom's Dino-Rama.

In terms of attractions, Spider-Man is clearly revolutionary. The others are a relatively unthemed steel coaster, a clone of the 50-year old teacups and an off-the-shelf dark ride. It wasn't Universal's best work.

However, I don't think it's fair to issue a blanket indictment of Universal. Both Universal and Disney are capable of better work. It really comes down to how much they are willing to spend.

Agree. Let's compare Marvel island to what Disney did with its biggest outside franchise...Star Tours. I wouldn't exactly call the area around Star Tours the highest quality...its a tiny endor forest right next to a tattoine themed gift shop with a few other random props thrown in, not to mention that Endor and Tattoine are not even on the same PLANET.

Ah but its a studio park....well...up for debate as to what kind of theming is proper and who could have done better with what land.

Disney shouldn't even consider a 5th gate in Orlando until they fix up the 4 they have.

Epcot is in big need of a major cash infusion, there are too many buildings that are empty, have half effort attractions or are in major need of refurbishment.

I'm very frustrated. I'm sitting on a big scoop, but because of legal restrictions I can't tell it. It was confirmed to me the other day. I don't know why companies bother with legal warnings. Most people don't believe what they read on boards any way.:)

Ok, so you emailed Universal about something, they gave you what's possibly happening, yet they said that legally you can't tell anyone else?

Seriously, that's the first time I've been threatened with legal action if I didn't keep my big mouth shut. I was very excited about that.:)

please, they can't legally do anything to you for them having whistleblowers. you wouldn't get the book anyhow, they would. welcome to the internet, now please do tell. :wave2:

It has to do with a major park ride being replaced by something else. I wasn't given a timeline. I think you all can figure it out.:)
