Disney website - someone should be fired

Okay I just talked to someone via online chat and he said the projected completion date is this weekend. I was asking about linking reservations since I still can not so it could be just that he's referring to or all the site issues. He said you should clear your cache and that can help. He also said if you use an older version of Internet Explorer (I do not) you should update because they've been having problems with it. Screenshot included because his name made me chuckle!

Like many, I still can't get my Package reservation to show up. But... I may know who 'needs to be fired'... ;)

The College of New Jersey (where I graduated) had an article in their Alumni magazine about the "senior vice president of enterprise infrastructure services," who oversees all of IT employees. Maybe we can blame him! The title of the article certainly isn't very accurate...

Actually, it looks like he's in charge of the "inside plant" infrastructure (corporate and operations networks), not necessarily the guest websites.

My guess is that WDW out-hosts their public-facing web servers, and in doing so, they have to work out crossing the internal firewalls to pull up reservation data on someone else's servers -- that's a fairly tricky business to get working correctly.

I'm not surprised they're having issues.

I can't even get the website to load at all...just "This webpage is not available" :confused3

On a different thread (in Dining or Resorts) someone talked with a CM who said the projected date was in March.

Oh, CMs.....

We just got back from a trip to Orlando and stayed at the Rosen Shingle Creek. The free in-room internet was very slow and, unlike the previous site, I couldn't access many features of the new site, so it seems that, for now, it only works when you have a decent internet connection.

Overall, I much prefer the old site. I think that's the saddest thing out of all of this.

What's odd is, when I was a CM (13 years ago) we were told never to give misinformation by guessing. Either tell the guest that you cannot answer that question or that you need to find them someone who can. Not sure when they started telling CMs to make something up! :confused3

I was told about 4 days ago to try again in 48 hours. I guess I'll keep trying? He could have meant just for reservations to be working though because that was what my specific inquiry was about.

LOL, I just tried to make a room reservation and the lady told me the system is "enhancing", which appears to be code word for it's crashed. She said to try again in an hour.

Disney doesn't want my money!! LOL

Well this is interesting.
If I use my usual browser, Firefox (17.0.1), I land on the "enhanced" (read as: hopelessly broken) new website where I can't retrieve any of my reservations.

BUT

Internet Explorer (9.0.8112.164210, 64 bit) shows me the site as it was before the most recent show stopping changes...including all of my reservations. I am fairly sure this is not cached data since I logged out and back in and the "N days until my vacation" is present and correct.

I was looking at their extras, such as tours and bibbidi boutique, every single one of them had the wrong ages that were allowed until you looked in the before you go but some people don't look there once they find what they are looking for. Bibbidi which is up to 12 yrs says 17 Disney will have A lot of unhappy guests very soon!!

Things have not changed since you were a CM in that regard
however when it cimes to a work in progress thing like this website a CM may be told one thin at the beginning of their shift and given many more instructions & "updates" by their area co-ordinators and managers throughout the shift

Frustratings to say the least for all concerned no CM is going to risk their job by lying or making things up on the fly just to sound as if they are knowlegable that would be nuts Mgrs monitor telephone interactions for job performance and the CM never knows until after the fact

Right now the site is a very weird mix of the old and new. Is anyone else experiencing that? It's like every time I hit submit it, it changes versions. It seems very confused.

BUT at least I was able to check in for our upcoming stay! :thumbsup2

Thing is CMs don't write copy for websites, either Disney's advertising agency does or their in-house creative dept. I can tell you from experience that when pushed into a deadline, misinformation gets shared all of the time.

I agree with you BUT the CM on the phones on the front line so to speak is instructed what to say with very little leeway Spiels & different scenarios are role played all the time

What website is everyone using? I'm trying www.disneyworld.com which turns into disneyworld.disney.go.com and it had always worked in the past, now says explorer can't display page, but sounds like some of you can get on to the site somewhat - I can't get on at all unless I do a round about through disney's tv site....googled a restaurant and that got me a round about to make reservations but would rather not have to do this.

I have the same issue off and on, can't get to the site directly, have to go a round about route.

I think it's because we have Canadian IP addresses so we get redirected to something else.
