We have officially been priced out of disney.

We have been on a disney cruise and would like to take the kids on another cruise.

However I'm afraid we will be comparing what ever cruise we go on with our disney cruise. Has anyone been on a royal carribian? How did it compare?
Did your kids have a good time with out disney?

Thanks

Tom

Welcome to the DIS boards! Royal Caribbean compares very favorably to the DCL cruises and there's even a whole section of the DIS boards dedicated to RCL questions. As for the kids' programs, the larger RCL ships have a lot going on there.

It really depends on what RCL ship you select. We went on RCL Mariner of the Seas last year (after 8 Disney Cruises), and did not like it at all. My kids constantly compared it to Disney. Just a whole different feel to the trip...no DISNEY "Magic"....but then again we are Disney fanatics. We however loved the ports that we went to....just didn't like the ship. But I'm sure if you went on one of the newer ships you would be just fine. Just my opinion....we love DCL.

Sorry, we still have pixie dust in our eyes....I can't imagine even trying a different cruise line. I am sure they are fun and safe but I always want that added magic that only Disney provides......well worth the extra money even if it means we go on less cruises.

I agree 100%. After our disney cruise we came home beaming...my brother and his family came home from carnival cruise miserable and would never cruise again.

We did 2 RCL and one Carnival cruise before DCL. We also did mot have kids before DCL either so this may be from a totally Adult perspective, but we Loved the RCL cruises we took. Granted all of our cruises have been on the newest ships.

But when we did DCL in 2014 I must say I was apprehensive to see how DCL would measure up against RCL and they exceeded every expectation.

I would say if you are looking for a dream vacation do DCL. They will not disappoint.

Looking to have a nice vacation and save some money try RCL.

I would stay away from Carnival. We were on the Carnival Dream when it first came out. I hated the ship layout. The whole ship seemed claustrophobic to me. Low ceilings. Plus the people on the ship seemed to be there just to drink. Just my preception. There were a lot of totally inebriated people all day everyday all over the ship. Not really my scene anymore. Maybe if you were 21 but not for a family.

We sailed on Allure last Thanksgiving. Definitely a different experience from our 7 cruises with Disney but not in a good/bad way. Just different. Our boys were 16 & 17 at the time of sailing. Neither cared much for the teen club but they didn't care much for Vibe on the Fantasy or Dream either. Its hard to gauge by them. For us there were pros & cons for both. I'd sail Royal again. Sure.

I think the newer larger ships are good. We've done NCL Epic and Breakaway and loved our cruises. There were a lot of positives. I think the same applies to the Allure or Oasis of the Seas - especially with older kids, although my daughter was 3 1/2 and 4 when we went on NCL and she had a great time. RCI has the new Quantum of the Seas coming out in the fall and it looks fantastic. We'll definitely be trying that one. We probably only have 2 more Disney cruises left in us then we'll enjoy other lines and itineraries. There are a lot of excellent options out there (Celebrity as well as NCL and RCI) - mostly depends on the ship. But then again I'm not a fan of the DCL Magic.... I prefer the bigger ships.

After three Disney cruises we are going to try RCL because the costs are better. We chose RCL because it seemed the best fit for our 8 year old daughter. She loves the whole Disney character experience and RCL has some of the Universal Studio characters on board plus there is a Barbie party at the kids club one night. Guess if you can't have Princesses, Barbie is the next best thing.
