Disney Visa

soooo here's my question..... when you get these reward certificates, how do you actually use them at WDW? Do you present them at resturants?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe it states that when you want to redeem points you call/contact them and they issuue you a card.I'm just guessing, but I would imagine it's like a gift card (credit/debit card type format).

Aside from the debate on hte pro's & con's of the card,it's just so darn cool to present a card with Disney on it when I make a purchase! It leads to some very nice conversations with different people,it's just so much fun!

What they issue is $10 increment certificates. They are cardboard and shaped like money. Not like the gift card.

And is it true you need to be careful how you use them because you don't get change back?? (ex. buy a $5 item using a $10 certificate and lose out on 5 points/dollars)

Just got my first bill and I guess I was expecting to have the rewards coupon with it. I'll have to check the bill and info over more, but do you have to call to get these coupons?

We have also stopped using all other credit cards to get points for our next Disney trip. I will admit it, I LOVE flashing my Disney Visa card! And to have that - card member since day one - is just too cool! :)

Do you know how many times cashiers have said "wow, I love that card!"... or "what a great design!"

You can find out about discounts available through the website. If you go to www.cardmemberservices.com and sign up, there is a section that lists all the current offers, including current codes.

My DH was on the fence about taking another Disney vacation so soon. SInce we got this card, he is all for it! He wants to use it to buy everything.

I have a question, though. I read in the agreement that they will count your rewards based on $100 spending increments per month. So does that mean that if I only spend, say $50 one month, I won't earn the 1% on that? Or if I spend $150 in one month, I'll only earn rewards on the $100?

You will earn 1% on your purchases. At the end of your statement, they will take what you spent and multiply by 1%. They will also round the differece. Example, if you spend $150 during one statement period, you'll earn $2 rewards. If you spend $149, you'll earn $1, if you spend $50, you'll earn $1

I know I'm running this a bit off the rewards subject...but thought I might just give a heads up to everyone to watch those balances carefully!

We just got our card a little over a week ago and we've had nothing but trouble! We've used it 3 times. Twice it was denied and they had to call in for approval. I called BankOne about it after the last time and they said it was "just a security thing", not to worry.

Today I went and took a look at my balance online. It didn't show any specific transactions that shouldn't have been there ( We only had 3, but they were all over $1000 ). BUT, it showed me owing much more in "pending transactions" than I had charged and my credit limit was significantly less than it should have been.

I had to call them back and apparently each time the store tried to charge the account and was denied, the transaction was actually charged to my account!!!! Gee, that's only $2500 or so in incorrect charges.:( They took the incorrect charges off, but I'm wondering just how long they would have stayed had I not called?? It's been a week since the first incorrect one and it was still there and it's been 3 days since the last one.

I like the reward $ program, but I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. I've never had this kind of problem with a CC before and I don't plan on starting now.

Anyway, if you've had any problems with transactions being denied as I did, keep an eye on your charges!

This is common on all credit cards, there are times when you look at your account online it will look like you havbe been charged for a purchase and it is also shown as a pending charge. It is just a timing thing and the pending charge will be removed.

Pending Charges
The pending charges line of your Account Summary shows the charges that have been authorized but not yet posted to your account. Actual charges are the amounts of purchases that have posted to your account. To understand the difference between pending charges and actual charges, it's helpful to review the charge process. When you present a credit card to a merchant for payment, the first thing that happens is that the merchant requests authorization for the amount of the purchase. This occurs when your card is swiped. In most cases, the merchant knows the exact amount of the purchase and requests authorization in that amount. For example, if you go to the market and buy $82.75 worth of groceries, the market would ask for authorization to charge that amount to your card. Until the charge posts to your account, this amount would show in the pending charges line of your Account Summary.

Sometimes, though, the merchant doesn't know how much you'll charge until after the authorization must be made. A good example of this is at the gas pump.

When you swipe your credit card, a request for authorization is made immediately. Because the amount of the purchase is unknown at that point, the merchant asks for authorization up to a specified amount. For this example, the authorization request is for $50. This amount also shows in your Account Summary as a pending charge.

Your gasoline purchase ends up being $22.50. That's the actual charge that will be paid to the merchant.

In rare instances, the actual charge is posted to the account before we receive an updated list of pending charges. It can appear that you are being charged both the authorized amount of $50 and the actual purchase amount of $22.50. In reality, the pending charge will usually be removed with the next update. In no case will you be charged both amounts.

I understand what you're talking about and at first that's exactly what I thought was going on.

However...
None of these transactions were for unspecified amounts. They were at retail stores for specific amounts. The only times these extra charges were made was when the charge was denied at the register and they had to call in to authorize the charge. Also, it's been a week since the first "double" charge and it was affecting my credit limit by more than $2000. Wouldn't the updates have occurred by now? And they say in their explanation that what they describe ( an actual and a pending charge at the same time) is a "rare" occurance...it wasn't for me...2 out of 3 isn't rare!

I have no doubt that eventually these would have been credited to me even if I hadn't called, but it seems like a week is a little long for $2500 worth of charges to stay on my account. I have other CC and I've never noticed this happening. I've seen authorization charges listed, then credited...but always within a matter of a day or two. Usually within 24 hrs of the transaction posting, the authorization charge would come off.

Peachgirl-
I am very irritated about this too. I have never had a problem with my other credit cards. I have another thread posted about this problem:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=3394418#post3394418

I have over $3000 in pending charges for park passes I couldn't buy because of a Disney Store Computer error (they tried to run the transaction twice). It may take 7-10 days to get it off my card. It wouldn't bother me, however now my available credit is reduced by $3000 and I am constantly checking my account to make sure the charges don't go through. What a hassle!

Thanks for posting the link, I thought I was the only one! This problem isn't an authorization charge problem. It only happens when there is a denial when they first pass the card through, then call for approval!

When I called BankOne, the person I spoke with said she removed them immediately....I went and checked my account online as soon as I got off the phone. True, my credit limit was what it should be, but my pending balance is now totally off.

I'm not impressed at all and if it happens one more time, I'm cancelling the card. There's no excuse for the balance problems and frankly, it's embarrassing to have your card denied at the register! I've actually never had a purchase denied and had to have a manager call for authorization and I don't intend to start now! Nevermind the time it eats up trying to straighten it out every time I make a purchase. This has never happened with any other card I have ever had and Disney or not, I won't put up with it.

This makes perfect sense to me. Both Bank One and Disney promoted this card to the max. Heck, I got five different preapproval notices, my wife got three, my daughter got two and my dog got one! After I signed up for the card, I got three more and my wife got two more solicitations. In short, this is a mass merchandise card not unlike a Sears card. If you can't qualify for a Sears card, then just crawl back into your cardboard box. Now Bank One has to sort out the more risky folks. Just remember that if your card didn't clear, then you most likely have other credit risks that you should investigate. Having too many credit cards it a very bad thing. If you have more than three credit cards then problems can arise very quickly! Always remember that your "credit limit" is always considered as a big chunk of debt.

Bottlejet...I have no idea what you're talking about if your comments are directed towards the problems I've been having with this credit card.

At any rate the confusion continues...I got another Disney credit card in the mail today. It's the same account number except for now instead of saying "Disney Club Member", it says "Charter Member". Same welcome letter with all the new cardholder information stuff...

Has anyone got TWO cards?????
