disney visa

I'd been debating on getting this card, but find it off putting that they seem to have gotten rid of the 5% back in certain categories things they used to do. I have a different Chase card and they off 5% back categories each quarter. I don't use my card for everything, but I do use it for the 5% back categories and those accrue pretty quickly. Last quarter it was groceries (even at Walmart and since that is really our only grocery store..yea!) Coming up is restaurants and gas so each time we eat out or gas up we'll use the card. I'm really doubting that the Disney Visa is worth getting at this point. I can take the cash I earn and just buy a Disney GC which is good anywhere and is more flexible than the rewards card:confused3

This is almost exactly what I was going to post.

We got the Chase Freedom when they were doing the $200 offer a few months ago and are now mostly using that instead of our Disney Visa because we're earning tons of points with the 5% on gas and groceries.

We do have over $500 in Disney points because we did a kitchen renovation this fall and put basically everything on the card. Now I'm really just using it for things I would only be earning 1% for anyway, but I think after this trip it's really not going to get used much.

we have the disney visa, along with quite a few other CCs (not to worry: we pay our entire balances every statement, only debt is the last 5 years of a smallish 15 year home equity - and we have extremelly high credit scores:)).

i find the disney visa 1% rewards are just too low to use as our main card. (we charge everything that we can - if someone offers me free money for spending my money, i'll take it!!).

our chase freedom has given us the most cash back, with 5% bonus categories (gas and groceries add up quickly:)). there is also the option to get a statement credit without using additional points. it makes more sense for us to just to buy a disney GC with the freedom card using the statement credit (even better, was when stop and shop had buy almost any $50 GC, get $10 store coupon - we bought a bunch of disney GCs for what was essentially 20% off, plus received 5% back on our groceries ).
btw, the freedom card was noted as one of the best by a certain consumer mag :rolleyes1- obviously, we agree :)

On our last trip, we had $260 of visa rewards to put towards our trip. We stayed offsite and therefore had to pay to park and couldn't do the dining plan. We used the rewards to pay for parking and food. The rewards card was easy to get. A few weeks before my trip, I ordered the card and it was mailed to me. Then you used it as a gift card anywhere at Disney World.

I built up my rewards by basically charging as much as I could to the card (its the regular card with 1% rewards). I do make sure to pay all credit card purchases off in full each month to avoid any interest charges. I don't use this card exclusively though. I also have a Discover card and I take advantage of their 5% cash back rewards that are offered quarertly.

My quandry that I'm in now is that I don't have a definate Disney trip in the works. I know that I would love to do a solo trip in the near future and would like to do another family trip in several years. I'm having a huge internal debate on whether or not to keep using my card. In one way, I really want to because it is an extra savings and it is dedicated to Disney (which helps me save for and justify a solo trip). On the other hand though, I could build reward dollars/points/etc on other cards.

I use Chase Freedom for the 5% categories and you can get a check from Chase that you could use to purchase Disney Gift cards.

I wish I could use my Disney Visa to pay more bills but other than my cable/internet/phone provider they all charge a service fee if you pay with a credit card which is more than the 1% I would earn from the Disney Visa.

Does Visa take away the grace period for new purchases if you don't pay a balance in full??I've had Discover for 25 years and almost always paid it off every month. Last month I left a balance of about $700 and during the month used the card to charge about $1900.
I was shocked when I saw the bill and that they had charged interest on the new purchases as well as the previous balance with no grace period! I called and was told it's always been that way. They figure the interest on the average daily balance if you skip one time not paying off in full. Just be aware that you really do need to pay off the entire balance each billing period, which is not really a full month for all cards.

I didn't read the responses. I work for a credit card company part time and know of a lot of people who use their card for EVERYTHING to get their rewards/cashback. They use it for gas, groceries, utilities, insurance payments, doctors visits, car repairs, tuitions, school books, mortgage, rent, eating out, daycare...EVERYTHING!

We have $1,000 on our redemption card from Chase for our September trip, with likely another $100 to be added by vacation time. Since we have free dining, we're going to use the "free money" for tips at the 11 TS meals, an extra TS meal in addition to the 10 for free dining, tickets for MNSSHP, snack and souvenirs for our boys, and Christmas presents (with what's left over).

Like most above, we've never paid a dime for this card. No annual fee, pay on time, and collect the money at the end.

We also use our Disney Visa for Everything that can be paid with a credit card. We have NEVER carried a balance though as we pay it each month. We don't believe in paying interest except on our mortgage. And even that we don;t like. ;) Dh is a firm believer in living within the means.

LAst year we had over $600 we put towards our trip. This year, so far, we have a little over $300, but we did just upgrade to the premium card so I expect to rack up more than that for the second half of the year. Not to mention we have a dd who will be starting community college and will need a car so that helps.

Our trip coming up cost up about $1600, so we are hoping that 600-700 is paid through rewards.

We've been thinking about getting the Disney Visa. We always pay for everything with cash because my husband hates the idea of debt, but we figure we'll just put everything on the card and pay it in full every month with cash and we should rack up quite a bit pretty quickly if we put our mortgage and bills on there.

I used to use my Disney visa a lot, but like PPs mentioned, since they stopped with the bonus offers of 5x and 3x rewards, I've been using it less and less. Also, like other posters mentioned, I like to maximize my rewards where I can, so if one of my cards is offering 5% back on certain categories, I use that. For us, all of my credit card rewards are going into our Disney fund, so it doesn't matter if it's in the form of a Disney rewards card or straight cash back, whatever gets us the most free money is the way to go.

Currently, I am a HUGE fan of the Chase Freedom card and it's 5% cashback on certain categories. I think I just maxed out the current grocery reward, so that's a minimum of $75 to the fund:banana: We're also pay-off-the-balance-every-month types, so we're truly maximizing the rewards.

I too, was under the impression that you couldn't use a credit card to make a mortgage payment...however, we do pay our oil, cable, and phone bills with credit cards -DH pays the electric bill online and I'm not sure if that's on his card or checking account.
One last thing about the Chase Freedom and Discover and why their 5% deals beat the Disney upgraded card - NO ANNUAL FEE!!
