I have not yet applied for a Disney visa. I did receive the PIN for a room discount. I would like to know if there are any benefits to applying for a Disney Visa, will I get a better deal/discount/promo than the 10% to 30% room discount. Looking to go in June. I have done Free dining in June but I don't believe thats offered so much at that time. Thought and suggestions, please.

You get discounts on purchases made in Disney and 10% off at some of the restaurants. You also get 1 Disney dollar for every $100 you charge.

6 months 0% interest on Disney vacation financing, also.

But I believe the premier card comes with an annual fee.

Yes, the premier card comes with an annual fee, currently $49. Depending on how much you use the card in the 2% categories, that can still net you a better deal than a regular card. For example, if you use the card consistently when you buy groceries, and spend $4900 on groceries in a year, that by itself would cover the annual fee. Throw in gas and restaurants and you can easily end up with more than enough to cover $49.

Also, some stores that you don't consider real grocery stores (like Target) are classified as grocery stores for this purpose.

We are going the first full week of June so the discounts for our dates were released at the end of December as part of the "spring discounts". The Disney VISA offered a different and deeper discount than the general public discount. It was about 5 different resorts (SSR, OKW, VWL, BWV and Poly...so only DVC resorts) and it was 35% off (general public was 30% off villas, and other discounts and categories were available). There wasn't much availability though. Our TA had to call in bc the VISA promotion could not be booked online so she was on hold several hours (as general public discounts were released the same day). By the time she got through, there was only VWL for the dates and room type we wanted.

It was an interesting discount in that usually the Disney Visa discount is the same as general public, just released a few days before.

For the summer discounts that just came out, I did not see a Disney Visa discount.

For resort discounts other than this recent special discount on the villas it's usually the same discount but sometimes released to Disney Visa cardholders a few days earlier. We got it hoping for that last year and it was one of those times it was not released early.

But the card itself is worth having. I've used a couple hundred dollars in rewards just in the year we've had it. And 10% off at some restaurants and used it for the Disney Visa M&G at HS. I've also used it for the 10% off a $50 or more order on the DisneyStore online and in a couple shops in the parks.

I think there are some products that are also exclusively offered for purchase to Disney Visa cardholders.

You also get invited to some free in-store events from time to time. They really are hit or miss, but that is to be expected for a free event that's main purpose is to get you into the store. I usually get an invite about 3-4 times a year for some sort of "event" that starts 1 hour early prior to store opening on a Saturday morning. Sometimes I chuckle leaving as it was cute. Sometimes I feel like a chump for wasting my time. I don't re-arrange my schedule to go to the event, but if I am planning on running errands with my daughter anyway I will go ahead and attend. Not a strong reason to get card, but it is a perk.

We got a $200 gift card after spending $500 in first three months, last September. I've seen offers of $100 gift card recently.

We have accumulated over $2000 in rewards $$ for our trip in November. We use it to pay for everything we can.

WOW! We just got ours in hopes to earn some reward dollars in time for our trip in January. Already started paying for groceries and physical therapy with it. For those who have racked up large rewards...do you request reward cards every year or just wait until you're actually booking a trip? I noticed over the weekend that you can't carry reward points for more than 60 months but that reward cards don't expire. Won't be an issue for this trip, but if we continue to use it for a trip in another 5-10 years, we clearly don't want to lose any rewards.

Disney Dream Dollars earned expire 5 years from the date they are posted to your account.

A way to keep from losing Disney Reward Dollars is to have them transferred to a Redemption Card and then use that Redemption Card to purchase (or reload) a Disney Gift Card.

AHA! I knew there was an easy way to do this. :) Won't be an issue for this trip...but it might take us more than 5 years to save up for a second trip. That's really helpful - thanks!

While a Disney Visa might have some small perks that go with it like the merchandise discount and 0% vacation financing, we found it easier and faster to accumulate rewards on our Capital One Venture card and use that one exclusively now. Points don't expire and you can use them for anything travel related, so we usually use them to cover our airfare. No restrictions either.

We go about once a year and just use the points each trip. I wait until the last credit card cycle before the trip to order a card so as to maximize $$. Also, although we usually have about 800-1200 to spend, we always use it just to cover variable costs during the vacation (food and merch basically) because it eases the sting of their high cost and allows me to enjoy the trip more. The room and tickets are fixed costs that are paid before the trip (lot of points right there) so I don't give those a second thought while on vacation.

If you are short on time before your next vacation, you can also pick up a Redemption Card at any Guest Relations location at WDW or DLR. Once you get the card from GR, you can call Chase to get your reward dollars transferred to it.

A coworker of mine received an offer for the $200 GC and NO annual fee. I cant find that offer anywhere. I have been looking. He told me the only thing he did was order a Disney Planning DVD so I have as well. Still waiting...

I think the main perk is the 1% rewards that you can use for rooms, theme park or water park tickets or meals. You also get discounts at some of the gift shops and restaurants on the property. The 1% rewards add up after a year or 2.
