Disney Visa Perks

Actually now through the end of March they are offering 5x the points. There are details to the deal, but I would call them if you didn't get the ad in the mail.
Also, 1% isn't a lot, but the points don't begin to expire until after 5 years. We have a family of 5 and I anticipate being able to buy our 5 day hoppers this summer purely with our points. They do add up fast.

We are charter card members and we have never been offered anything that increases the points we can earn. We pay the balance off every month and I think that may have something to do with it.

Just a word of warning...We are planning a trip to Disneyworld in May and we contacted the credit card company in regard to the six month 0% offered on trips. After questioning them in detail, it turns out that yes, they will give you the six months interest free; however, they will charge you interest on anything else you charge, even if you pay it off at the end of the month. So in order to get the benefit of this offer, you cannot charge anything else on the card. If you do, there is no way to avoid interest charges. It makes it awkward for us as we have many of our bills on direct pay to them. If we use this offer, in order to avoid interest charges, we will have to change those over to a different card. It seems an unwise policy on the part of the credit card company.

You're better off to not carry a balance. I charge all of my daily purchases on the Disney card, including gas, groceries, and I use it to pay some of my bills (those that will let me use the credit card) including my cell phone, cable, and car insurance. Every time I make a purchase with it, I make certain that the money to cover that purchase is set aside in my checking account, so at the end of the month, there is no surprise, the money is there to cover the bill, and I pay it off in full as soon as the billing period ends.

I do the same, but I record all of my purchases in my checkbook. That way I keep track of my spending.

I love the perk of people saying 'wow! I love your card!':lmao:

Yes, both my DH and I have the Tinker Bell card. He has had quite a few comments (and many more strange looks). For some reason I have not had too many people notice mine. ;)

I'm actually going to call today and see if he can get a different card. I opened the account and picked the one I liked, but then we decided to use them for everything so we could earn the rewards dollars. I've been making him use the Tink one for a year now.

We have had our card for three years now and it is almost the only card we use. We used to have another card from Chase and we stopped using it after we got the Disney Visa and Chase finally closed the other card up.

We ALWAYS pay the balance each month. We do it on-line so we never miss a payment and never get charged intrest. We have probably earned around $700 Disney dollars so far.

I have never seen an offer for bonus dollars though. How do you get that?

Eric

The deal is for gas, groceries, airlines and restaurants (i'm looking at the postcard now). You hvae to spend at least $1000 @ month before it becomes 5x points. Otherwise you still get the 1% as usual. There are no penalties if you don't spend enough to get the 5x points. I confirmed all this with them before I signed up for the plan.

The extras like 5X points on some purchases are only offered to certain cardholders and are different for each group. So, mine might say a $1000 minimum and yours might say $250 minimum. I get those offers when I haven't been using my card much, so I think it's a way to increase use. I do pay mine off each month, so that doesn't keep you from getting offers. I think bedogged just uses theirs so much that they don't make the offer.

Bedogged-How can that be? Wouldn't the trip be part of a special promotion on your statement?

For example, we remodeled our kitchen at Home Depot with no interest/no payments for a year. We made some smaller purchases, and they told us that our payments go to the smaller purchases first then pay off the promotion last.

How can they charge you interest if you pay it off every month and it's not part of the promotion?

The way the card company explained it to us is that any payment that you make goes to pay off the TRIP portion before anything else so you accrue interest on those items you purchased during the month. It made no sense to us either, but believe me, we questioned them extensively about this. We told them that we would have to change all our direct payment bills and that they would be losing that revenue. Even the customer service person we spoke to thought this was a really stupid policy. Maybe they think that many people just won't realize what is happening. Give the credit card company a call and see if you get a different story than we did.

Most credit card companies generally have you pay off the lower interest portions before applying it to the higher interest portions. That's how they make money. Cards/companies that do not do this are the exception.

As for the bonus rewards, it is "select"--it is different offers to different people. We have never been offered a 5x reward or anything else. We barely use the card--only for Disney vacation items. We have a dividend card that pays 3.5% on absolutely everything; much better than the Disney Visa and it is CASH--can be used anywhere. We use the Disney Visa for Disney vacation items for budgeting/tracking purchases and keeping it active. We really got the card for discounts and other perks.

I just want to add in the pp (bedogged) is correct. I charged our reservations on the Disney visa. I also used the visa over the next several months. I made sure to pay it all off before the statement date of the sixth month. I still ended up with a $35 finance charge!

However, I didn't know why, and of course just thought it was my fault- maybe I calculated the months wrong. Now I realize, it was the interest on everything I charged during the 6 months! See you learn something new everyday!

Yes - only the trip is considered interest free, so I think if you keep using the card - you get charged interest on the rest. I hadn't thought of that before.

As for the 5%, I think you just have to remember to read the website. I was looking at my balance and saw an ad for the 5% and clicked on it. So it's available to everyone, but not everyone gets a mailer.

I have done the Character Meet 'N' Greet several times and it is wonderful! However, if you plan to do this, I would suggest that you get in line early about 1:00. Often a long line will form and it moves very very slowly.

I meant things like the free stroller rentals and Character Spot, lol.

If anyone wants to know, you get 1 free 5x7 photo at the character spot with whatever character is available. That is 1 per card, so if you and someone else in your family have a card you can get 2.

And you can get it once per day. So if you go to epcot more than one day you can get more than 1 photo.

If there are four of us in our party and two of us have the Disney Visa, can we get two photos?

Yes, but they have to be separate accounts.

For example, my DH and I both have a Disney visa card, but they're on one account so we only get one picture.

Thanks.

Now I wonder how they would know that they are separate accounts.

I'm pretty sure they have the same number on them.

Also, the person asked us directly if we had more than one account. I just said no. I think they actually try to get you the second picture if you're elligible otherwise she wouldn't have asked.

None of the cards held by my wife and I have the same number on them. They must go by the honor system.

DisneyDebbie- Did you pay it off in full every month for your other charges? ( You said you paid it in full on the 6th month- is that meanaing the trip itself? Did you pay the rest of the charges off in full every month?

Does anyone know if you have to book with the card or just show it at time of tour? I already booked the tour and did not use that card (didn't realize and I hardly ever charge anything)....can I still get the discount somehow?

Maybe somebody who has used the rewards at Disney World can tell me...

  1. On Chase's Disney Rewards website it lists "Popular Places" to use Disney Dream Reward Dollars. Does this mean that there are shops and restaurants in the park that don't accept DDRD's? Has anyone experienced trouble using them?
  2. Can you put the DDRD's on your account at your resort for charges put on your "Key to the World" card?

Any information will be helpful.
