Disney Visa Card questions.....

My mom suggested we get a Disney Visa Card and use it to pay the mortgage and car payment each month and pay off the credit card each month instead of sending checks to the mortgage company and Ford.

Does anyone do this? Does it really work towards helping pay off disney vacations? The idea would be we'd put all the points earned towards paying for the vacation package (room, tix, etc.). Can you do that? Or can the points only go towards tickets? The website wasn't very specific on the limitations, it says they'd all be spelled out in the booklet that arrives with the credit card.

I know you're maxed out at 750 points a year, but if 750 points equals 750 Disney dollars, that would be a huge chunk of a vacation after 2 years.

Am I understanding it right?

Thanks!

I pay everything I can with my Disney Visa or my citi rewards card and pay them off at the end of month. This includes my car insurance, homeowner's insurance, umbrella policy, cable bill, cell phone bill, and department store purchases. I have no mortgage :) .

I use my Citi card for purchases at supermarkets, gas stations, and drug stores becase that card gives 5% back on those purchases (wtih a cap of $350 max for the year).

So far this year, we have $198 Disney Visa reward points and $184 in rewards from Citi card for our trip in November!! This will pay for souvenirs, breakfast at food court, and other meals for the two of us!! They way I look at it, as long as I pay my balance off at the end of each month why not make some money on my money?

Thank you for your reply. Do you know if you can use it towards paying off the room and/or a room package (room/tickets/dining plan)? That is what we'd want to use it for.

We use our Disney visa for everything except gas (right now AMEX has a 5% reward). We can't pay our car loan or mortgage with a credit card as neither lender will accept that form of payment.

I'm at 190 reward dollars right now, with another 8 weeks until vacation. So, that's probably another 10 reward dollars. :goodvibes

The other thing we do is that we try to put aside $40 per pay period and buy Disney dollars. Based on two pay periods/month, if you're able to do this for an entire year, you'll have $960 in Disney dollars. We missed a few months during the holidays, but for the most part, we've stuck to it. Sometimes it's hard to keep the money in the checking account so that we can pay off the entire balance every month.

We're excited about being able to pay off our DCL shipboard account so that nothing (or very little) hits the credit card. :yay:

Good luck!!

I know there were a few threads on this subject and was trying to search earlier but the site was too busy. I am not sure of the specifics, but I am pretty sure it can be done. Try doing a search. I will try to search again and see if I have any luck!

Yes, you can use your points for hotel, tickets, food and (almost) everything else. Did you know that your husband can also open his own account (you can be an authorized user on each others as well) and he can get 750 points per year as well ($1500 goes even further towards vacation). If you apply on line, try using key code 63FD11 and see if it is still valid. This gives you $50 reward dollars free after you first purchase. Your husband will get them as well after first purchase. Hope it is still valid - they change their promos periodically. I can't posts links yet but the site is www dot 50DisneyRewards dot com or 1-800-940-8749.

I'm new to the concept of Disney Dollars (I've heard people mention them, but that's about all). Is it a 1:1 ratio? One American dollar will buy one Disney Dollar? Why would that be beneficial? Why wouldn't you just save $40 a pay period? Is there some advantage to DD? Sorry if I sound critical; I'm really just confused!

"Rewards dollars" and "Disney dollars" are not the same. You earn one reward dollar for every $100 dollars charged on your Disney Visa. Disney dollars on the other hand, are as you explained. I buy them for my grandchildren for birthdays, Christmas presents, etc. for them to spend on their Disney World vacations. Hope this helps.

I'm in my 2nd year with the Disney card. Last August we had $145 in credits. We used it the first day I think!...and we were on the dining plan! This year we'll be taking about $160.

Maybe I can make it last longer than a day? :rotfl2:

I don't think you can pay a mortgage or car payment with a credit card, can you?

I know you can't pay Ford by credit card, I already checked for my mom. You can put your utilities, groceries, etc on the card and pay if off for the points but be careful and make sure you save the money in the bank so you have it to pay it off at the end of the month. I lost track last month and ended up not having enough cash to pay off the bill.

I use my Disney Visa for cell phone, grocery and cable bills and then just pay the Visa online. I called once and you can make an online payment every 3 days, so I pay right away so it doesn't end up being a huge lump at the end of the month. Although it shouldn't be, it's harder for me to pay $700.00 at once than to pay each time I use it for a bill. I just don't use it anymore for things that I don't have cash for. So far this year I've got $103. Disney rewards dollars.
