We are going through some old boxes. We have TONS Of the VHS Disney movies. Our dd is 20...so you can see how old they are. LOL The elementary school I work at still has VHS in the classrooms. I know the teachers use these for indoor recess from time to time. Should I keep any of the CLASSICS like Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast? Should I just donate to Good Will? Any suggestions? Thanks. We have been replacing them with DVD's and Blue Ray when they come out of the vault. THANKS

I donated all of mine to Give Kids the World. I know at the time they were still looking for VHS movies.

Good question. I cannot wait to hear the answers.

I know our local library is considering going to DVD only, which I kinda understand but kinda feel sad about.

I'm interested to hear the answers as well. We still own a VCR and still use it so we've kept the movies but as we replace them with dvd, we don't know what to do with the vhs tapes.

I kinda think I will hang onto the BB and Little Mermaid. I would like her kids to see what a VHS looked like. LOL

I was just thinking of this on Wednesday. Went down the basement to look for something and came across our box of Disney VHS movies. Our kids older kids are 33 and 30, so they're REALLY old (but work just fine). I feel bad just throwing them out.

I keep mine until I get a DVD. Then I give to the library or women's shelter. I figure I can still use the VHS for *hopefully* grandkids someday :goodvibes

I don't know what you should do, but I will tell you that my local Goodwill has hundreds of the VHS tapes and they sell them for 99 cents. I go there looking for books, as we do not have library services (unincorporated).

The only VHS I would keep, if you own it, is I think Song of the South. Only because, as I understand it, that movie will never be released again. Other than that specific tape, I don't think they have much value.

I have sold some of our DVD's, as we have purchased the Blu Ray Combo packs with the various coupon deals; and I am happy to get $3- $5 for the DVD's. I ask $5, but am happy taking $3.

We still own a VCR, but have gotten our tape collection down to less than 20.

if you have the space, i'd hold onto a few, just the ones you like the best. i have a box of disney vhs movies too, but we still have some on vhs that we haven't gotten on dvd yet, so those are still on the shelf and DD still occasionally watches them.

NEVER throw them out. I have found church nurseries take them and local day cares will take the rated G movies. The PG ones I donated to goodwill

Give them away or stick them in your next garage sale. You won't get much, but 50 cents each. Someone will buy them though if the price is right. A lady bought a whole bin of mine all at once. I gave her a deal which brought them down to around 40 cents each, but I got rid of all of them. When I had them priced at $1 each, I sold very few. The longer you keep them, the harder they will be to get rid of (think cassette audio tapes and 8-tracks).

donate them to the pediatric unit of a hospital

That may not be a good idea.

I'm sitting here in DD's hospital room at Children's Nat'l Medical Center. Today makes 22 days that we've been here. We have yet to see a VCR anywhere.

By the way OP...."Hi Denise :wave2:"

Our hospitals have one in every room...tho they may be upgrading to DVDs as they remodel. They use them for tutorial tapes to instruct patients about home care. But you could also use it for entertainment while there.

I used a VHS to DVD recorder and made copies of mine then donated the rest to Good Will. I figure they were just taking up space. I only bought the converter as we had TONS of family VHS tapes that we wanted to copy to protect our memories.---Kathy

We donated all our Disney VHS tapes to our church yard sale this past summer. Hardly any of them sold. The rest went into the dumpster.

Hey Laurie!! I am going to probably donate a few to the school. They still have VCR's.

I work at a pediatric hospital...all our rooms have DVD's but we definitely have VCR's around, too. Great idea!

For anyone upgrading to BlueRay and getting rid of DVDs...those things are like gold to Childrens hospitals...the activities departments have limited budgets, so new movies are awesome for the kids!
