Just saw a piece on the local news. Disney is using trained dogs to sniff out bedbugs in their resorts. The dogs can locate any bugs within 60 seconds. If a room registers positive, Disney takes steps to eliminate the bugs.

This should make people feel better about the bedbug situation. Disney is being very proactive about the problem. According to the news piece, bedbugs are on the rise in most hotels in this country.

My husband works at a local university. They use dogs to sniff out bedbugs too. He watched once and said the dog went straight to a couch. When they took the couch outside and cut the fabric open, it was loaded with bugs! :scared1: I guess the dogs know their stuff!

Wow - that's fantastic! Do they use the dogs only when they suspect an issue or as a normal check?

I would imagine they wouldn't be able to check every room each time someone checks out.

That's interesting. Not sure when they started this, but in Sept., my DH saw two guys wheeling a dog (in a cage) at POR. We guessed that could have been what was going on, but who knows :confused3. We also spoke with a CM who told us they have had some bed bug issues there.

That is awesome! Makes me feel a tiny bit better about going and staying. I saw on Bedbugregistry.com that Disney does a lot for guest if the guest finds bedbugs in their room. I would imagine they would considering they want you to come back. I still get freaked out when I think about them and there being a posibility of bring them home. But they are everywhere now so I can't lock myself in my home. That would be no fun for my kids. ;)

WEll say the dog sniffs out a room on Monday guest departs does the dog return after every guest? Would be a lot of dogs and a lot of sniff checks weekly...would be great but that would be surpising...To be effective it would need to be done after every guest left...

They have had the dogs for several years, They use the dogs to check the rooms after a guest complains to verify the presence of bedbugs and to check the room is clean after a bedbug infestation. They are not pro active.

I wonder how long until someone comes in complaining that the dog is going to exacerbate their medical issue;):rolleyes1. I know a lot of people can't be around dogs, so does anyone know what kind of "clean up" Disney will do after having found the BB or even if none are found, will they still shampoo the carpets and stuff knowing that a dog was there:confused3.
