I was reading up on the education aspect of the College Program and it mentioned taking courses at Disney University...I feel completely ignorant to this whole thing, lol, and a bit silly for asking these questions lol.

How exactly does this work?

Can you take major specific courses here to take care of your requirements at your college?

I heard you can only take 4 classes while on the advantage program of the CP, is that where you take them?

The courses listed on the Disney site, are those the only courses available or does DU offer more?

When you sign up for the Disney CP, do you have to request taking classes here or do they assume you are?

Is there anything specific I should know about this before deciding whether or not to apply for the Disney CP this fall?

there are some major specific courses.. go to wdwcollegeprogram.com, they have a listing of all courses and what is discussed, etc.. you take classes at a clubroom in chatham or vista way. I am not aware of DU offering classes for disney cp'ers. you request classes if you wish, they don't assume anything. Some of these classes are very good classes such as marketing you, and organizational leadership and so forth. I took HR classes to fulfill a requirement from school.

The College Program Education Series is offered as a branch off of Disney Univeristy... the classes themselves for the better part hold their lectures onsite at the apartment complexes. Information on the course offerings are available at the official website.

Possibly. Each school has to make their own decision whether or not they'll accept credit for Disney's collegiate courses, but they are recommended for credit by the American Council on Education. Take a look at the Credit Acceptance Benchmarking Report to get an idea of whether or not you'll be receiving credit for both the program and any ACE-recommended courses you take.

For College Program classes, yes, the limit is four classes for advantage participants- that's two per term. This is due to your full-time availability, you will be expected to work up to 45 hours a week when classes are in session. Again, these take place at the apartment complexes for connivence.

Those are the only College Program specific classes available. There may be additional courses available through Disney University, but many of these have to do with specific areas of the operation, professional development or networking. Some of these you can sign up for yourself (via the Disney Development Connection site, once you arrive) and others your Coordinators of Training have to arrange for you. In either case, these courses do not carry any credit recommendation.

When you sign up for the Disney CP, do you have to request taking classes here or do they assume you are?

On your second day, you will organize any College Program classes you wish to take. This is a mandatory part of the arrivals process, but they don't make assumptions ahead of time as to whether or not you're signing up for courses.

Well... as far as I know the Fall term is already completely full, and they are working off a waiting list. The program is a great experience for many, and is a great way to get started with Disney if you're looking at a long term career with the company. It provides the opportunity to really show your stuff and learn more about the company, things that could make you a better candidate for professional roles down the line.

The "courses" at DU are really more like seminars in everything from basic sign langage to resme writing, to the animal programs at Epcot. If iremember correctly, they are usually along four hours long.

If you go to the CP website, you can see a listing of the college program courses with decsriptions, those are the ones you will probably be most interested in. If your school has distance (online) learning, that would be another option.

The program recruits one semester ot, right now the fall program is full and recruiting has stopped. Yor next opportunity will be the spring program. We will start recruiting for that sometime in late August early September. Keep an eye on the website and the e-presentation for your first opportunity to apply. Good luck!

Thanks for all of your responses!! They are all very helpful :goodvibes

I am planning on doing the Spring Advantage for '09 and applying in the fall as soon as possible. There is no doubt in my mind that I want to participate in the CP - I just have to make sure I will not be messing myself up as far as classes and credits go and that's why I've been so edgy about what the education is like. As a double major in English and Secondary Ed, I have a lot of classes to cover in a short amount of time as I am on the 4-year plan at the college...taking into consideration that a semester of it will be dedicated to student teaching.

Thanks again for all this information and thanks for the links!! I really appreciate it.
