Disney Trip of Two Young at Heart

Silly Girl, I got that t shirt at the Disney store a few years ago. Even Peter Pan liked it. For some reason he didn't know that Tink had a gym.

Day 6 Saturday 12/16

Today was AK day. We had our breakfast at CC and took the bus. First we went to the LK show. That show never fails to please. I just love those tumbling monkeys. Then we caught the Flights of Wonder. There are so many beautiful birds! By that time our tummies reminded us that it was lunch time. We stopped at Pizzafari and shared a chicken parmesan sandwich. We thought we’d try Nemo’s musical show but the line was into the next county. We decided to go back to the room. AK is so confusing and I always get lost. By the time we got back to the Poly it was 2pm and time for a nap. On a bright note, I did find a few hidden Mickey pins trading with CM. I was very good today and only bought 2 Everest pins. One for me and the other for my DS.

Tonight we’re going to Spectromagic. Since MK was so crowded we just strolled around and near Aladdins Magic Carpets we saw Jasmin. She and Aladdin were just leaving so we got in line for when they returned. Jasmin loved the way I made my autograph book and put a KISS under her name. I thought that was so sweet of her. It was after 6 so we headed up Main Street to get a place right at the corner near the Emporium for Spectromagic. It was the perfect spot, and right by one of those carts that sell the light up gadgets. I love to look at those carts.

Side note: I know the Brazilian tour groups have a bad reputation. Goodness knows I’ve seen some terrible behavior by some groups. The group that was next to us were the exact opposite. They were quiet, respectful and polite. There was an older woman with the group and they all helped her to sit down and then helped her up when it was over. They shouted out as their favorite characters came by and laughed and had a great time.

DH and I saw something really neat at the same time at the light cart. OOOOOOOOOOO So DH went over and bought me a light stick. It has the colors of the rainbow and it flashes the different colors. You push the button again and they all flash at the same time. You push the button again and all the lights stay on. Then you push the button again and it turns off. It’s supposed to last 72 hours. I left mine on with all the colors staying on for the rest of the parade and a few more hours after that. The same few hours the next night and it was already starting to dim. We loved it so much, we bought another one for our DS. I had really wanted to stay and see Tink fly and Wishes but I was getting tired. We headed back to the Poly and DH got our mug so we could share our nightly hot chocolate. I started to go to CC, when I saw the fireworks by the pool. I could hear everything and saw all the fireworks. When DH came back with our mug, we were tempted by the Dole Whip. Just thinking about it makes me DROOOOOL. We shared one and a mug of hot chocolate. How’s that for a combination?? Another perfect end to a perfect day.

Day 7 Sunday 12/17

A foggy morning which soon burned off to a bright sunny and very warm day. After our breakfast at CC we took the walkway to GF to enjoy the tree and gingerbread house. Then we boarded the monorail to MK. Of course, since it was a weekend it was jammed. We didn’t plan on any rides this morning anyway. Right by Tony’s we saw Pinocchio and Gepetto. I got my picture with them and got their autographs. We stopped by the
Tea Cups and got Alice and the Mad Hatter. I’m getting many more autographs than I thought I would. But Mickey was nowhere to be found. Maybe we’ll see him tonight at Epcot. It was getting towards lunch time so we got our usual lunch at CHH. We each got half a tuna sandwich and clam chowder for me and veggie chili for DH with a side order of cole slaw and a special treat of chocolate cake for dessert. Nothing more to do this morning so we headed back to our room and those wonderfully comfy beds for a nap.

We went over to Epcot to go to the Disney Visa card character greeting. AT LAST, there was Mickey! I finally got his picture and autograph and Goofy too. We got a coupon for a free 5 X 7 picture. We had 3 or 4 shots to choose from. We even got their signatures on the picture. We thought about seeing the candlelight, but the line was way past Italy. We stopped for a while in France, just people watching and relaxing. Finally seeing people with those scrumptious desserts got to us. We had to have one. We shared a Napoleon. YUM! We went back to Italy to hear La Bafana. I’m part Italian, so I enjoy the story. If you’ve ever heard the story, you know in one part she says she “stayed home and minded her own business”. The reason I love this story is I can hear my mom saying those words to me even after I got married.

It was too crowded for us, so we caught the monorail to the TTC and then to the Poly. We had our dinner of Dole Whip and hot chocolate. Thus fortified, we headed to the dock to wait for the water pageant and Wishes. We were entertained by a 2 or 3 year old little boy who was so excited he kept running around back and forth. His mom was always just a few feet away from him, telling him to slow down. This is where my heart stopped. The launch was at the dock loading passengers. The little boy was running and his foot went off the dock and he fell in the water between the launch and the dock. The mother screamed OMG and dropped everything and jumped in after him. Everyone, including my DH went running. But the mother somehow got him and the boat captain and her DH pulled them both out. I have no idea how she found him in that black water with little light. The little boy was scared and wet by otherwise fine, thank the good Lord. Her husband ran and got a bunch of towels that a CM gave him. By the time they were wrapped in towels a security guard was there taking their statement. Within minutes they had the EMT’s there checking him and the mom, who was 3 months pregnant. Both checked out fine and stayed for the fireworks. I’m sure the little one forgot all about it with minutes. I don’t think his parents will ever forget it. I think I said “Thank you God” about 20 times.

It was a very clear night and the fireworks were spectacular. Time to head back for a good night’s sleep.

Day 8 Monday 12/18

This is our last full day. We had our breakfast at CC and took our morning walk over to GF. It was a perfect morning. We went over to the MK and caught the opening and saw our friend Mark who plays Smokey, the fire captain. We chatted for a bit and I got my picture with him. We did the usual kiddie rides and HM. I wanted to POC again, but I just couldn’t get out of my wheelchair and said just forget it this time. My ankle was really bothering me by now. I can’t imagine waiting an hour in line to do the kiddie rides, but people were doing it. We had lunch at Cosmic Ray’s. We got the Kosher chicken strips to share and a carrot cake. We did HM and since it was after 12, it was getting too crowded and hot for me. Time for a mid day siesta.

The best way to end our last full day was to go to MGM. I did the TOT, and GMR and the Muppets. I finally got to see B&B show but there was no Four for a Dollar today. I really enjoy their show.

Now for the perfect end, the Osbourne lights. We watched the dancing lights and walked through a couple of times and then watched the dancing lights one more time. We boarded the bus one last time and headed back to our room to pack. That took some creative thinking and lots of squishing. Next time we will definitely be bringing bigger suitcases!

Day 9 Tuesday 12/19

Our last morning we decided to go to Epcot EMH and ride Soarin. What a great feeling. You really do feel like you’re flying. We stopped in to see Turtle Talk with Crush. I guess it’s more for kids. There were a few humorous moments, but on the whole I found it annoying with him saying “Dude” every 5 seconds. He only took about 3 questions from children and the rest of the time he was just jammering away. We went back to Soarin with our FP and again enjoyed that. Lunch time we got the grilled chicken flatbread at Seasons. We shared it again because it was so huge. To end our stay we rode SSE one final time. We said our goodbyes to EPCOT and rode over to the GF and listened to the piano player for a while and then back to the Poly to just relax and wait for Tiffany. At 4pm we got our luggage and our driver arrived at 4:15pm. We loaded up and were on our way to the airport. They were so kind at MCO. They saw that I was limping badly and took us right through security. At the scanner I had to put my cane through, so the guard gave me a wooden cane to use. Wasn’t that nice? I wanted to see how our luggage made it through, (just because I am naturally nosey) and watched. The guards asked if they could help us. I said, “No, I am just nosey and want to watch”. They said they would charge extra for that. LOL The soft bags were done separately. One man had a pair of tongs that held a small piece of paper that he stuck in one bag, took it out and then did the same thing for all the pockets. So, Mrs. Nosey here, asked what that was for. Can you believe how geeky I am?? You know what he said? It was for clearing out the funk in the bags! LMAO I told him there was plenty in my bag because our stinky sneakers were in it. He wisely never opened my bag. He just checked the handles.

Our flight home was pretty good. We were warned about some turbulence from Savanna all the way to Atlantic City, but it wasn’t bad at all. We arrived right on time and our DS was waiting for us and took us home. We talked for a few minutes and showed him some souvenirs and then we said goodnight and were in bed by 11:30pm.

Final Thoughts.

This was my first time using a wheelchair. I must say that CM and Guests alike were so caring and helpful. We didn’t encounter one person who was rude.

The handicap pass was a Godsend. I didn’t have to wait in line in the sun. I only used it sparingly, but was very grateful for it.

The Polynesian was a dream come true for me. Everything was just perfect. ( I’ve said that a lot in this report, haven’t I?)

This trip was more for meeting the characters and getting their autographs. Geeky part of me showing again. For some strange reason, I was the only adult (without kids) in line. Imagine that!

I know this TR is very different from the usual and I hope I haven’t bored you all to tears. But, for us, it was fun, relaxing and romantic.

The perfect trip.

This is my first post so here goes. My DH and I are in our late 60's and we too love going to WDW for our anniversary. This past one was 46. I enjoyed reading your trip report very much and I also enjoyed all the pictures. I think we have more fun at WDW because we stop and take the time to "smell" the roses. We are never in a hurry to do all the rides either. My favorite one is soaring too. Very good report. Hope to see more from you.

Thanks, Angelrose, I very much enjoyed your report. Glad you had such a good time.

A little trivia for you: Do you know why Housekeepers at the Grand carry those parasols?

NO?

Well, at opening back in 1988, the Executive Housekeeper thought it up, so they would not look "like a herd of cows" walking to their buildings, LOL

Happy to hear they still keep it up!

Thank you all for your kind words. I was afraid no one would be interested in reading my report. I get so much joy from reading trip reports all year that I thought I would try and give my own trip report a shot.

grumpyanddonald, thank you for posting. I feel honored that it was my trip report that was your first post.

We do love to take our time and just enjoy EVERYTHING. We even do take a walk around the rose garden every trip. There is just so much to enjoy there.

Backstage_Gal, thank you for that very funny tidbit about the GF stroll. The "herd of cows" idea will stick with me now. LOL

:thumbsup2 :cool1: :surfweb: great report and loved all the pictures!! glad you had such a great trip and Happy Anniversary!:flower3:
