Disney Travel Agents question

I hope it's OK to post this question here. I am in the middle of planning our upcoming trip and I have come to the realization that I love everything about planning the trip almost as much as I like going! My family asked to help them with theirs because they like they way I approach it and I also usually save them $$. I am wondering how one gets a job working for a Disney only travel agent like DU. I would really like to do this and I am trying to find out how to get started. If there is anyone who is on the board who could give me some tips that would be great!

I assume the first step would be to go to Disney a lot, and I have that one covered!

seanmci, Sorry I can't help you but I would also love to know this. My family and friends keep telling me to find out about this since I have planned like 8 trips for people and I absolutely love doing it. I will keep an eye on this post and see if anybody responds!

I can't speak for DU but to be a travel agent does require some study. You also need to be familiar with the airline and hotel reservation systems. Lots of codes and abbreviations to remember.

Once you have the education and go to work for a travel agency most agencies pay you by commission. So you may work for quite a while before you ever get a paycheck. You get paid after they take their trip. You try to build your clientele. Some agencies pay you an hourly rate with no commission.

The perks you receive aren't much better than you could get by watching codes, etc. You have to have so many hours working before you qualify for a card that will get you industry discounts.

If you work for an agency there is the Disney College of Knowledge. It is a great course to get you familiar with all of Disney's products. I had gone numerous times but there was still stuff that I learned through the course.
