Mount Washington Resort to be sold

BRETTON WOODS, N.H. A developer and real-estate company are planning to buy the landmark Mount Washington Resort at Bretton Woods, including 900 acres and assets such as a ski center and 18-hole golf course, for 45 (M) million dollars.

The purchase of the resort by Celebration Associates and Crosland Incorporated is expected to take place this summer.

Mount Washington Resort Chairman Wayne Presby says the partnership that currently owns the complex says it's very aware of the economic benefits that the two companies can offer to the North Country, particularly given the loss of several major employers in Coos County over the past few months.

Celebration Associates, a real-estate company in South Carolina, formed an alliance with Crosland in 2001, a real estate investment and management company with development experience, to collaborate on projects.

Then I looked up Celebration Associates

The Crosland Group and Celebration Associates Form Strategic Alliance

Charlotte, N.C. (August 23, 2001) - Crosland, Inc., a private, diversified real estate investment and management company with extensive development experience, and Celebration Associates, LLC, a leading advisor and developer of mixed-use, master-planned communities in the Southeast, announced today that they have formed a strategic alliance to collaborate on select real estate projects.

Crosland will invest in select vertical development opportunities within master-planned communities, which are being managed by Celebration. Initial efforts are already underway on the Baxter Health Campus at the Village of Baxter in Fort Mill, S.C., with several other opportunities currently under evaluation.

“We are excited to be entering into this relationship with Celebration Associates,” said Todd Mansfield, CEO of Crosland. “They have a long-standing record with high quality villages and have been able to create a true sense of place in each of their developments. Through collaboration, we feel we can provide enhanced products and services to our clients and partners.”

Charles Adams, managing principal with Celebration Associates, said, “Our firm is pleased to have the opportunity to form this alliance with The Crosland Group. Their 64-year record of excellence and depth of experience in retail, commercial and residential development will enhance our ability to realize the full potential of the communities in which we are involved.”

Celebration Associates, based in Fort Mill, S.C., was founded by former Disney executives who oversaw the development of the Town of Celebration, a widely recognized community near Orlando, Fla., built by The Walt Disney Company. Crosland’s Todd Mansfield worked together with the principals at Celebration Associates for eight years at Disney.
About Celebration Associates
Celebration Associates, is a leading advisor and developer of mixed-use, master-planned communities and villages. Celebration’s principals and associates have extensive expertise in homebuilding, multi-family, retail, office, and seniors housing that they occasionally develop in and around the communities they manage. The firm’s current large-scale projects under management include the Governor’s Club, a 2,000-acre development near Chapel Hill, N.C., and the Village of Baxter, part of the 7,000-acre Clear Springs Plan in Fort Mill, S.C. Celebration communities are known for their natural amenities such as parks, walking trails and golf courses. Most incorporate community cornerstones such as educational, technological and health care facilities. Through its alliance with The Pinehurst Company, Celebration Associates also is involved in resort village development at Pinehurst, N.C., The Homestead in Hot Springs, Vir., and Daufuskie Island Club and Resort near Hilton Head, S.C.

Makes you wonder what the plan is......

Interesting string of research, but all that really points to, albiet vaguely, is the possibility of a planned community, not a resort or theme park.

Cool though.

Let me add to the rumors about new disney locations.I heard from someone in the military that disney has been looking at property in Summerville,Sc. Which if you think about isn't that far fetched. Summerville is right off of I-95, we already have a vacation club in hilton head and the disneydirect warehouse in the upstate. So I say bring on the parks!!!!

Ooo...hope so...my cousins live there...can you say frequent visitor?

The Disney in Texas rumors have been floating around since the late 80's. When I was in high school, there was a rumor that Disney was buying up land between Houston and Beaumont along I-10. Then there was another rumor of a Disney Land deal in San Antonio (Later turned out to be land for Sea-World).

IT'S TRUE!!

It will open in 2012.

My dad called me with the news when he found out.

I cried with excitement.

I have been waiting and dreaming for Disney to build a park in TX but now I am moving away to college. Just my luck, huh?

IMHO: Building a Disney Park in Texas is like opening a Chucky Cheese in Fallujah.

No part of that sentence makes sense. I tried to figure it out but it just got weirder.

Nope no parks in Texas but I am hoping that one of the other companies builds something in Houston now that Six Flags is gone. Houston is way too big to have nothing. :confused3

:rolleyes2

Planogirl: there is a schlitterbahn in Galveston, and there is at least one other water park (near spring), but I agree, they need something else down there.

I drove by where Astroworld was, it was very sad, everything was gone and it was all flat, and a bunch of dirt. I wish I'd have taken a picture :/

Does anyone know if the rumors are true that Disney has purchased large plots of land North of Frisco, TX (DFW)? I have heard various rumors along this line. Are they really planning a theme park North of Dallas or is this a hoax? Anyone know? Thanks! :confused3
DixieIrishRose, The report you heard is no mere rumor. It is true. The park will be well north of Frisco. Disney has bought thousands of acres. They will build hotels, a theme park, a Disney studio, a water park, and more. They will have an airport, too.

It is true. Your dad has pretty good information about the timing.

I would love for this to be true but I have my doubts. Can you please provide us with some details on why you know this is true? We live 30 minutes from Frisco and have never heard about Disney planning to build there.

Thanks

Come on, PlutoFan. Two posters with a total of 3 posts said it's true. What more evidence could you possibly need?

I have a Disney source. He isn't going to risk his neck to provide "evidence" to convince anybody. But he has been telling me about this for over three years. He did say that you could drive Smiley and Mobberly Roads in Denton County, and see a lot of ranches that were purchased by Disney. Several of them are show places, but abandoned. He said some of the Celina brokers must know because they are buying up the surrounding land. There is a corporate ranch which owns over 3,000 acres. They will eventually provide utilities to the park through a water district. I think the ranch is called "Tally Ranch" or something like that. If you live close to Celina, see if all this is true.

So Disney is buying up "show place" ranches and then shutting down their operations even before they make any announcement? That's not consistent with their practice in Florida, or in Virginia, where they got options on the land but weren't going to close until they got the legislative rights and infrastructure that they needed. And why would you stop an existing productive use of the land well before you were ready to develop. Heck, they had cows on the land in FL where Celebration is now for many years, to preserve the agricultural special use tax.

And your "source" won't give any further details, but he's okay with you going on the internet and giving location information?

My source is a real source, not a "source." He is worn out with the secrecy required to pull this off. He said it is much easier to reclaim Hong Kong land in the open than to buy it in Texas and conceal the purchase. He says they have been growing hay and corn, and running cows. They have kept the agriculture going. He says you can see that for yourself, if you want to actually know something rather than reason it away.

He didn't give me permission to put anything on the internet. He said there are more than one or two people involved in this. Disney is mostly finished buying land and will announce it in the near future. You can doubt it if you want. But you'll feel foolish when they report it on television if you've argued ad nauseam it couldn't be true.

I won't feel foolish about anything, whether it happens or not. You've got to expect a dose of healthy skepticism when (1) there have been rumors floating around about TX purchases for many years now and nothing has come of it, (2) two posters suddenly show up out of the blue to verify, and (3) the CEO has publicly stated that Disney's not building any domestic parks anytime soon. If you show up saying you've got the goods, be prepared to defend your information.

Man, if this is true, it sure is going to make my drive to and from work even more of a headache. I work in Frisco and driving down 121 is bad enough as it is. And since I live off 35 near Denton, if they put it up there they may as well turn that area of 35 into a parking lot.

Not sure if this has anything to do with what the OP is talking about, but I posted in this thread back in April. Looking at how the relationship between Disney and Pixar started out, it is plausable that Disney could help back a park such as this. Just have to wait and see.

Can someone tell me what the tourist appeal is to buidling in Texas?
