Hi

we arrive at OIA just before 5.00pm local time, and were thinking of what we could do on that evening. One idea that came up was to possible go to the outlets at Lake Buena Vista that evening. We will be staying at All Star Movies without a car so i wanted to know how practical is it to get there from ASMo. Is it right that obe can get a shuttle to Downtown Disney ? , and is it close to that at all ?

You can catch a bus from ASM to Downtown Disney and then a taxi.

I think this could be a little ambitious to try and get there on public transport when you've just arrived after a long flight.

How are you getting from MCO to ASMo? If you arrive at MCO 5.00pm it may take an hour or so to clear the airport and then longer to get to ASMo. You would then have to get from ASMo to a transfer point (which I'm not at all up on but I think may be the TTC?? Don't take my word for this please) to then get a bus to the mall.

You can get a bus easily to DTD from ASMo but I don;t know if you can then get to the mall (unless you were happy to get a taxi?)

Phew, I feel tired just thinking about it ;)

Sorry to be a wet blanket!

Any idea how much a taxi fro DTD would cost? This is the outlet mall with the charater outlet right? We wanted to go there next trip, but no car so we were thinking of doing this. It only seemed 1 mile or 2 away when we did drive, but not good to walk. (cross highways and major roads.)

Hi

Not sure what MCO is Miff ?, however I think you could have a point especially as we'll have a couple of kids under 4 with us.

We're getting to the resort with a Virgin transfer unless they sign up to the new Disney Magic Express and then we'll go direct with Disney.

Perhaps we can catch some late evening entertainment at one of the resorts, however still wanna go to LBV outlets from the resort in that first week so any other ideas would be helpful, bearing in mind im not overly keen on changing numerous buses with young kids.

:sad2: Forgive me for dashing your plans, but I would not consider a trip like that on your evening of arrival with small children. Remember to your body clock it will be 10pm when you land, you then have to get from the airport and check into your resort. My guess is, that could take the best part of a couple of hours. I think you will just want to settle into your room and crash, I know that when we have arrived mid afternoon we can barely stay awake for dinner on that first evening. I'd say be kind to yourselves and take a taxi to the shops on another day when you are all more rested and able to enjoy the experience. You can save a few $$$ if you take the bus to Downtown Disney it is only a short taxi ride from there.

ALL the outlet centres seem to have Disney Stores..

The Premium Outlets (near Dixie Stampede) have the better Disney Store (or Belz) than the Lake Buena Vista Mall. Personally, I have never found anything there to buy thats worthwhile.

We occasionally get stuff at the Premium Outlet.. or Belz.. but never at LBV outlets.

I agree with everyone else.. have a quiet night in, unless you are planning to go without the kids..

Our son we have to stretch out as late as we can, but let him go to bed about 6 or 7pm... he is absolutely exhausted by that time...

I'm not sure if you are seasoned visitors.. but... go when you have more time and energy..
we always go shopping on a cloudy or rainy day!

I have done Disney 3 times but have never considered doing Lake Buena Vista Outlets because it is difficult to access without a car. I dont know if there are character outlets there but there are 2 at Premium (which almost everyone says is much better) - A Disney and a Universal shop.
I agree with all the sentiments - it just isnt a good idea to do this on your first night.Go to Downtown Disney and have a wander round. There are lots of shops and restaurants and it is a very child friendly area. We always go there on our first evening.
MCO is Orlando International Airport airport by the way
DisneyPhd - you can get to Premium by taking the Lynx No 50 to stop 38 (from the transportation centre) and then change to the I Ride and take the trolley bus to the last stop south. I always do Orlando by public transport and never miss having a car - except to get to Lake Buena Vista! lol

Thank you all very much for the excellent advice which I believe is worth following. Although we havent done Orlando as a family before, we are seasoned travelers and usually go to the Far East ( 14 hour flights), however, I Just wanna see as much as possible, but I shall take heed of your advice.

Thanks again to all.

I agree with everyone else - you'll probably just want to check out your resort, grab something to eat and let the kids have a splash in the pool. You'll be awake at the crack of dawn the next day regardless. After 11 visits, we still just chill the first evening.

Having said that, everyone's different, so if you get there and you find you're itching to do something, why not take a cab to Animal Kingdom Lodge - it's very close to ASMo (Downtown Disney isn't) and it would be a nice gentle start to the holiday.

  we usually go shopping when we stay at the allstars but not on arrival you wont have time go the next day if you must mears go certain days i think that is the best way to go just call mears and enquire what days they go :cheer2:

A 5pm arrival at MCO is quite late. We have usually landed between 3pm and 4pm and have rarely been at our destination before 7pm (sometimes later) and we always take the car (the buses can take even longer). This is already midnight UK time, so I would be surprised if your little ones would be up to doing much that first night.

Ours generally perk up on the drive from airport to resort/villa and we get something to eat en route while they are still awake (they are both under 5). Once we are "home" the kids are generally well ready for bed and its wise not to be too far behind as they will be up again around 3 or 4am local time! We have never taken them out on our arrival night.

Bear in mind most of the malls and outlets dont open till 10am, so dont rush off too soon the next day either! The Wal-Mart is 24 hours if you fancy some early morning shopping though!

It is Orlando International Airport.

Also - just thought I would mention that when we visited Lake Buena Vista Factory Outlets in December just gone there was no Disney outlet that I could see - though there was a big empty unit which might be where it was before. I can't say for sure as I'd never been before, perhaps someone else can advise?

Sorry :(

It used to be next to Gap and the Electrical place, but it was relocating to a unit up the back of the outlets. It was open when we went (in the old spot next to Gap), but there was barely anything in the store. The one at the Premium Outlets is far and away the best one to visit.

We went in Gap and there definitely wasn't a Disney store next door. Maybe the empty unit I saw (which was at the back!) was about to be moved into by the Disney Outlet store?

It looked like it was on the verge of closing Karen, as all they had was about 4 large cardboard boxes of stuff in the whole shop! That was quite early on in the holiday, so I assume they closed it soon after.

You didnt miss much, so dont fret :).

Oh dear did you detect the note of panic in my voice? :teeth:
