Disney to cancel FPs if room is cancelled

Well, this recent development pretty much sealed my decision. I found another night at AKV in a CL villa to add at the beginning of our stay there but it would mean shortening our stay at BWV. FPs are already done and I’m inside of 45 days. There’s no way I’m going to let Disney’s award-winning IT mess with those just because I changed up a split stay so I’ll be canceling the CL night and sticking with my original plans.

The concern now is it appears to negatively impact split stays all on Disney property - so transfering from POP to Animal Kingdom Lodge (and I use that example as that is what we are doing for our upcoming August trip)

Just liken now with ADRs you cannot book them for your entire time on property but rather like 2 separate on site stays, appears FP will be the same

Interesting! Thank you! We do all split stays because we typically stay for two weeks at a time.

I am wondering if they might put together some sort of packages and/or things that travel agents can do and really focus on that as far as promotion and marketing .... so as Iger said they don't really have to get the word out that Galaxy's Edge is opening, so instead focus on marketing "If you want to fully experience Galaxy's Edge, book this package that includes your room and dining and a hard ticket event with lower crowds, etc.)

I think a lot of the first timers that are coming just for Galaxy's Edge would have no issue paying a premium - but they need to know what they need to book/buy to give them the experience they want
This all relates to the reason they are tightening up on the FP's along with all the other ways to maximize revenue...hard tickets, etc...
The demand will far exceed the supply so their "Iger, WDW" main problem is going to be bad press.
I'm sure they want new guests to have a positive experience, not waiting forever in lines, plus visit the other parks and hopefully get repeat guests going forward.
Bad press for example would be a local news station interviewing a family that spent thousands of dollars to see SWGE as their kids are all dressed up in Star Wars costumes crying because they couldn't get in or ride the rides..that would go viral in about a half a nano second.

I think this topic for newbies could be a new thread...if we want them to know

And letting Disney know how this change impacted your plans, right? ;)

I wonder if this will have a negative affect on deluxe resorts. I know we’ll be going back to our original moderate resort if this is the case. We can’t afford 8 nights at a deluxe, but can do 4 if we can do a split stay.

Maybe the solution would be no FP+ for SWGE rides until it calms down?

I would call and book what you want. They should be able to help you over the phone so you don't lose anything but are getting to do what you want on your vacation.

So the only way to ride is to wait in line for 6 hours? Not going to happen.
To be fair Express Pass wasn't added to Harry Potter until fairly recently. I'm not saying that Disney wouldn't start with FP to begin with but it's certaintly isn't a crazy idea never done before to have a brand new high demand attractions be standby only.

DVC won’t care. When I release the room, someone else will book it. If no one books it thru DVC, it will go to “breakage” and then CRO can either sell it or AKL can use it for a 1-night “magical upgrade” for some lucky non-DVC guest.

However, I will let Member Servces know how I feel this will affect a lot of DVC members. As a group, we tend to do a lot of split stays due to availability issues.

I'm confused by your situation. Did you book your dummy leading up to your "real" stay to test so that it looked like a split stay? And, it didn't let you book FPs for both the dummy and the real reservation? Or were you just testing a lone dummy trip that you plan on cancelling FPs for? Just curious if I am understanding the implication booking FPs for the entire trip on split stays...
I just booked two dummy reservations that I will cancel tonight. A package reservation and a room only reservation.

Oh right - forgot you are DVC...I am too and am planning a split stay for October. Good idea to contact Member Services.

well, theoretically without any fastpasses that should bring down the standby line. So instead of one group with Fast Pass that has to wait ~15 mins to ride and then others without Fastpass that have to wait 6 hours, everyone would have to wait 2-3 hours (just making up the numbers, but directionally that is what the impact would be)

I got in just under the wire with my split stay at POR and SSR at the end of March. A total of 5 nights. (my real reservation)

The amount of savings I got with the tickets was close to $75-85 a ticket. But I got to book one one night and was able to book three days of fast passes with this package. (then stay at SSR for four nights) This practice will be no more and will devalue my DVC.

Disney has shown logic at times where they eliminate FP+ when it's not needed: a case in point would be Anna & Elsa M&G at Epcot. However, I personally believe there is NO way that SWGE attractions will be without FP+.

You'd have to count me out on that. I don't wait 2 hours for anything. We'd just not do SWGE if that was the case.
