Disney to ban chanting?

This exactly. My youngest has major sensory issues. Something like this would cause her to feel physical pain. There are many many special needs children at Disney every day. A guests behavior shouldn't impact another in such a forceful and negative way. There's no reason for chanting, period.

I've never experienced the chanting groups, we've never gone in Jan or early enough in July I guess. I've heard cheerleaders in December but they were not disruptive to me.
But, I'll be shocked if Disney does anything about them. I'd love to be wrong for those that are bothered by them.

I just got back from WDW monday and I didn't experience any chanting at all while I was there. Was it really that bad for some this summer?

The no chanting rule could be interesting since concert/performance wise it's not really out of place but there is an excessive point to everything. Could you even have restaurants like whispering canyon or 50s prime time with a chanting rule in place?

I've never experienced this - we never even see large tour groups. We go in September and May.

I'm not at all surprised about the "incident' on Main Street USA.

Guests have become increasingly less tolerant of the chanting the last few years.

For example,in July I was leaving Epcot after ROE and there was a large group of the Fifteens from Argentina chanting as they walked to the exit.

Just past Spaceship Earth a LARGE group of Guests began shaking their fists at The Fifteens and shouting-USA! USA! USA!-drowning out The Fifteens.

The Fifteens looked a little scared and stopped chanting or making ANY noise at all.

It was really an ugly scene.

It's also pretty bad when it happens inside attractions, which I've also witnessed.

It goes without saying I am sympathetic to any parent of a disabled child. I'm not a fan of the chanting. It certainly can be mildly annoying to some people. However, WDW is in America and they have a right to free speech and the chanting has never hurt anyone. A more interesting question is; what parent in their right mind brings a child with "major sensory issues" to a theme park of all places? If the child had a severe peanut allergy would you feed them a Snickers bar? Chanting by a group of teens has zero effect compared to all of the other sensory overload opportunities in a theme park. If WDW wants to make a no chanting rule they certainly can; but, I'm sure it will be more of a guideline than an actual rule and probably won't be enforced except for extreme circumstances or as a last resort.

In all my Million visits I have never experienced this and upon first glance I was thinking "ban chanting is it really that serious" but after reading your post I guess it is. I need to search youtube so I can see exactly what all the fuss is about. But those Fifteens were on a cruise with us once so maybe I do know what all the fuss is about.

That's because it has become so over-the-top and more the norm over the last few years. We found it impossible to enjoy certain days on our honeymoon earlier this year due to the fact that we had to constantly talk over screaming groups. And this was during one of the slowest weeks. The majority of CMs have always hated these chanting groups as they have been known to ignore safety warnings, anger guests and cause trouble through the parks, so I'm glad they're doing something about it even though it's more under the table than anything.

The chanting is usually a "argument" between groups from different areas, usually supporting their football/soccer teams. It is logical that it could be ugly if two teams with a real rivalry go at it.

The worst I witnessed was when we were waiting for Spectromagic, lined up in Frontierland. A large group was walking down that "boardwalk" from Splash to near Diamond Horseshoe, which is a narrow walkway. The leader of the group was leading the chant, encouraging the group to chant louder as they walked. You could hear them before you could see them. They came to the end of the walkway, then decided to walk down the center of the street, which was already roped off and basically had their own parade, as Spectro was turning the corner at Liberty Square.

I saw the look on the leader's face and he was obviously so proud of what they were doing. He would turn around and raise his arms, to go "louder" as they're walking.

WDW doesn't need the tour groups at all. Business is booming, the parks are full most of the year. And they certainly don't need obnoxious groups alienating lots of loyal, repeat customers.

If not an outright ban, it's time to get tough with them. One warning, and if they continue their behavior, they should be escorted to the exit. Eventually all the groups will get the memo that this crap won't be tolerated anymore.

Of course, chanting isn't the only complaint. They're also known to block walkways, cut in line, push and shove people aside, etc. At least they can't hog the fastpass machines anymore.
