My question is two-part: first of all, I'm wondering if anyone knows whether Disney will come up with a program similar to the 2003 program, where military received free Disney tickets (since Anheuser-Busch issued them, I figured there may be a chance, but doubt it).

Assuming that there won't be, does anyone know if the prices at the local MWR are the same as those at SoG? I'm thinking we could save time by going ahead & purchasing our tickets ahead of time, provided they have all the same features. Anyone have experience doing this? How does it work? I'm assuming that if for whatever reason we had to cancel the trip, the passes could be used next year, assuming, of course, that we hadn't used any of the days?

the SOG ticket prices can be found at http://www.army.mil/cfsc/documents/shades/attractiontickets3.htm

Note that there are several pages of ticket info. Use the tabs at the Bottom of the page to navigate. One option available at SOG that would not be available at the MWR office is the Stars and Stripes Pass. These are the best value if you want hopping and pluses and will be using your days consecutively. You have to stay at SOG or a disney resort to buy these passes.

I don't know what the MWR prices are so I can't give you a comparison.

We live in the Charleston SC area, and have checked ticket prices at the 2 local MWR offices. The Navy base (NWS, Chas)was cheaper till this year, but when I went in last week to check the manager of the office had been "to busy" to bother checking out the new MYW tickets and "did not know when" she would get the chance so if I wanted to get any of the old 4 day Park Hopper passes I should get them then. The Charleston AF base MWR had more old Park Hopper tickets left over. This type of ticket will be honored at the gate. I have friends and family at several bases all the way up the East Coast and in Calif. and have checked the prices at all of them in the last 11 months. It is funny that the Navy base was several $$$'s cheaper then the AFB till resently, and that was because they were several miles farther away from WDW, I was told by the manager of both MWR ticket offices. So on that logic I checked the MWR up in Norfolk Virgina, and found out that there tickets were NOT cheaper. The base in Goldsboro, NC has ok prices on tickets, but you need to call a lot of places. Most will take credit cards over the phone. So last May while at SOG we bought 2 Preimum Annual Passes, why? well because 1) we were going more then 2 times and over 12 days, and 2) it saved us a lot of money on parking $8 a day, and on food. I did find out that there is a base down in Orlando that has very, very good prices on tickets. It is hard to find on line, but it is a Navy faculity, and it is a training site. No idea what it is called, and SOG is not helpfull on this.
Hope this helps.

I am interested in the answer to this questions to so I'll give you a bump!!!

Our MWR here (Portsmouth, NH) is just slightly cheaper than SoG. Right now we have the option of purchasing either Park Hoppers (until they run out) or the MYW tickets.

I doubt they will be doing another Military Salute, since they haven't done one since 2003, but hey I could be wrong. Now I may be wrong here also, but I'm under the impression that the Orlando base got shut down during the last BRAC closures, so I don't think that is an option.

I think it easier to purchase your tickets ahead of time, 1) being Disney raises their prices and that way you will pay the lower price. 2) I would much prefer to get a PH vice the MYW ticket.

Yup, Orlando's training base closed. My sister was a nuke there way back in the days, and I remember well driving to Orlando every weekend to get her to take her back to Clearwater (where I lived at the time). Stupid me wasn't a Disney fan back then... all those wasted opportunities! ;)

I didn't realize Park Hoppers were still available at MWR. I'll be giving them a call on Monday for sure - any idea the price differential between the Hoppers and MYW?

Thanks!

As of just two days ago when I called our base travel agency (MWR office) they are ONLY selling the 4 day PH, the same as they have always done. No other ticket options at all. When asked about the MYW the agent told me that they don't have them and won't get them. They will continue with the PH's until Disney tells them to stop and requests them back. The 4 day PH's are $200 and change for adults, and about $130-something for kids, I think. I'm thinking for a longer stay the MYW would be the way to go at SOG's prices, but for a quick 4 day trip the PH's would be better, right?

The MWR near us (Henderson Hall) is cheaper then SOG. At least it was last Fall! Since the new MYW ticketing came out I'm not sure if they still have the Hopper Passes. SOG had more ticket options though and my parents ended up buying an AP through SOG.

I just checked early last week with the AFB in Midwest City, Oklahoma - they had the new passes and at our base they have always been and still are about $3 more per ticket than if you were to buy them through SOG. She did say that they only have the base ticket and the park hopper option but if we wanted the plus options we would have to do that once we arrived.

I also found out some additional info from the MWR and SOG. We are taking 24 family members with us so I asked if there was a limit to the number of tickets we could buy and they said there was not. SOG only said that if we needed more than 50 they would like to know in advance.

Hope that helps,
Lori

Sorry, the base I was talking about is alive and well ( I think, at least the website is as of about 2 min ago! but it is a goverment site....and with all the riffs...). It is a at the address and site above. I talked to the MWR office in Oct. of 2004, and in May of 2004. We did not get over to the site. But my husband has been down and on site in the last year or so. I was just on the site to get the info.cause, of course, I cleaned out my "favorites" and deleated it only a few days ago! Never clean house!
This should help, if they still have tickets. They beat SOG on Park Hoppers, but not on the AP's or PAP's . And it was by enought money that it would have been worth the drive. However as of the last phone call I had with the then office manager of MWR, they would mail me tickets! I think it cost $10 for this... not sure. But we did not have time to have them mailed and we got the PAP's at SOG. That saved us over $40 off the Disney cost. Not sure if that was each or for the 2. And it was May 24, 2004. We could only buy them for the person WITH a Military ID card. We went to SOG as soon as the ticket office opened and within a few min there was a fairly long line. This was 2 days after school got out in South Carolina... and some of the Florida/other East coast school were out, but most were not.
I found the site by Google ing Navy bases in Orlando/ Naval Training Fac.
