Disney Store toys-JUNK!

Well its been hit or miss with Disney stuff for us.

The footed pj's have been great however Ive always gone up a size from what DS wears for them not to be skin tight. I did buy him the dark denim overalls in the 24 month size and they fit great, until he bent over and he popped all the snaps in the crotch. So we just had a seamstress sew up the legs. That's the one thing that's odd is the bigger size still had snaps in the legs, he has nothing else that still has that for that size, odd.

Now we did have something that had to go back. He got Handy Manny's tool box in plush for Easter. Well 10 minutes after he got it , the handle came unsewn from the box. Tears when we took it away. We are still looking for the plastic one since that might be more durable.

We have had good experiences with disney products. I have bought numerous pj pals and never had a problem with them, for DS (10) when he was younger and for DD (4)

I also have some jeans which are really nice. They have an adjustible waist on the inside and have held up very nicely. Also, we have the little princess polly pocket like things. We help DD put the clothes on, and she plays with them all the time. We also have the barbie like dolls of the princesses. I don't like the fabric that jasmine's outfit is made out of because is frays easily. DD plays with those dolls every day.

Another toy we like is the Gabrielle make up case. It came with jewelry and play make up. She plays with it all the time.

I haven't had bad luck with any of the Disney items I've purchased, toys or clothing. If something I bought shrunk after one wash, I would politely return it to the store for a refund or store credit. Has anyone here taken items back that have shrunk or broken? What did the store do?

They take just about anything back. Within 60 days w/reciept you get money back. No reciept you get merchandise credit.

We've done fine with the "Barbie" type Princess and Fairy dolls. princess: We also love the plastic figurines, though I did have to buy a second set of Princesses, when some of the legs started to break apart. The oblong plastic boxes they come in are majorly annoying though!

Oh, and the girls love those stuffed Princess dolls. No issues with them either. :goodvibes

I haven't had issues with Disney stuff yet. DH has a Donald Duck sweatshirt that has held up very well. DS has had some PJ's. They did shrink pretty quickly but he still enjoyed wearing them until he outgrew them. We have a baby Christmas jacket with a Mickey Ears Santa that was a size 0-3 mos. DS was swimming in it as a newborn (he was born exactly 1 week before Christmas) and was still able to wear it at a yr old. It's been great. DS has several Disney shirts without any problems. DS's Disney toys, what few he has - Little Einsteins from Target and a Higglytown Heroes set have been awesome. One of our dogs did chew up the policeman from the Higglytown Heroes set. I've had costumes that have been great.

I guess I've been lucky but I've bought almost all of it on clearance or sale. DS's Santa Mickey set I bought at the Disney Store on clearance for $2.50 and it's currently tucked away for the next child.

THe Polly Pocket type princess set literally broke on Day 1 - so I took it back later that week - I just happended to be going back to the mall - it doesn't always happen that way - sometimes it is weeks between trips.

All I asked for was store credit (and I had my receipt) and it was no problem (I replaced it wtith 2 of the PVC sets). I would have wanted my money back if DD wouldn't have been heartbroken that she didn't get anything after having to take sleeping beauty back!!

They were very cool about it - no questions asked - but like I said, I clearly had my receipt and it was only about 2-3 days later.

Yes, and when we pass the Disney store in the mall, I deny the request to go inside about 50% of the time. When we do go in, it's just to look around at stuff, I ALWAYS refuse to buy stuff there unless she has done something very deserving of a treat.

Sometimes my wife will buy birthday gift there, but only very few, because she agrees that it's junk. Kids "want" all kinds of stuff, but there many different things that will actually make them happy.....not just plastic princesses.

It my job as a parent to make the decisions on what is worth buying and what is not, and to teach the value of getting quality toys and taking care of them.

Easy there, my point in asking if you had kids was that they're are going to want what they want. I never said anything about always buying them loads of junk from Disney. But when I have, we've had a few problems with the merchandise. Actually, my son doesn't really ask for much so we can go into the store with NO PROBLEM.

clothing from there seems to hold up ok for us. DS 7 has been wearing a pair of pirates jeans for 2 school years now (they actually give their kids jeans good length) and they have held up fine, no holes in the knees yet and my kid is rough on pants and wears these quite often. Also his hooded zipup jacket/sweatshirt with the thick fuzzy stuff inside has held up well the past 2 years and that he wears just about everyday.

DH and I also have a lot of shirts from there (cant pass up the nightmare before xmas stuff!) and our stuff has held up well. DH is pretty hard on tshirts too.

I will admit though that most of the toys are not all that great (I try to stick to lego and playmobil when toy buying) and I love neat travel mugs but the plastic ones with the paper inside tend to leak down inside where the paper is and get all yucky. On the other hand my metal Jack on with the rubber grip is awesome! I even bought an xtra of that one (one for work and one for home).

I started my dd's with charm braclets. They buy a different charm at a different park. It doesn't brake and it doesn't shrink. :woohoo:

I haven't had any problems either. In fact, I only buy Disney Store PJs now. I love the PJ pals and the fleece footed jammies. I do size up on the PJ pals because they do seem to run smaller than some. I know they are meant to be tight, but a kid needs to breath! :goodvibes

She only has a few toys. I love the tub toys and the action figure sets. We have a few others too, and nothing has broken.

Disney Store PJs are our favorite, too. I also buy the next size up and they can wear them for 2 seasons (and my oldest dd passes down to my youngest dd). I do only wash in cold and hang all my kids' clothes up to dry, but I'm very happy w/ the quality and my kids love the charcters!

My girls have had their Polly Pocket-type princess sets for over 2 years now, still play w/ them A LOT and we've had no problems whatsoever w/ any of the pieces or parts.... also have the princess castle and some of the other accessories that go along w/ the sets (carriages, etc) and have been happy w/ them, too.

We haven't bought a lot of boy toys there since ds is only 2, though..... just some Cars stuff that has been fine so far....

I totally agree...junk! I really don't buy any toys from there anymore. T-shirts or cups or mugs, yes.

And my kids are completely hard on their toys and active, so at our house they only last a day! That's definitely some kind of record! If they don't completely fall apart, a piece that makes it fun always falls off.:sad2:

Well, yeah, it's our job to decide what's junk. But usually you don't know something is junk until you get it home. Plus, other people have given us Disney Store toys as gifts many times. To be fair, their toys don't look like junk...they just are! So, how would someone that's unsuspecting know?

Last year my son wanted this Lightening McQueen toy as his souvenier from Disney. They only sold it at the Disney Store, so we had to wait until we got home to buy it. It was one of those things that all of the adults vacationing with us helped him find. My dad ended up getting it for him and bringing it over when we got home. He was so happy. It broke before the night was over! I think we spent more time hunting for it than he did playing with it!

We don't buy them everything they want at all, but at special times we like to grant their wishes. I think that's one of the joys of being a parent!

Another one who is in love with the Disney jammies!
We have about 5 pairs right now and each one fits as perfectly as when we got them for her a while back. :)

Yep. We have about 5 pair also. We bought them on clearance for $2.00 each! And we went a size bigger so she can were them longer. I haven't had any shrinkkage...in fact they are really big on here!

I spent nearly $50 on a hoodie for myself at Downtown Disney and it did some strange blotchy fade thing after the firstwashing (it was the first and only WDW clothing item we've bought and the first and only time I've seen that strange blotchy fade - and I've seen a lot of laundry!!!)

Yeah, I bought a zip up hoodie from AS Sports and 2 weeks later the seams were coming apart.

Wow - how dismaying to see that the WDW clothing doesn't really hold up. I only purchased a few items on our past trip, but they seem to be ok so far. I'll keep it in mind for the next trip.

Regarding Disney Store stuff - I usually purchase online, but occasionally do purchase in the store too, when they have a massive clearance. I think that the disneyshopping.com products are better quality vs. the disney store items. I could be wrong, but at least that has been my observation.

The only toys I have purchased are the stuffed toys and they seem very nice. I haven't had any problems with any of the items purchased in the store, online or in the world. And my older DS is VERY rough with them.

We have bought several toys and clothing itens from the Disney Store and have never had problens with them. My kids are pretty rough with toys, especially my son. He throws EVERYTHING!!!!! I am always surprised at how well they seem to hold up to the torture they go through!!!

I have never had problems with the clothes either. I have bought them for me, my husband, daughter and son. We have several T-shirts that we have had for years!
