Disney Store Times Square Location - Opening Fall 2010

It's definitely opening in November. One of my bosses at my job just left to be a GM of the new location, they are starting to hire in August and plan on opening in November.

Mine too :cool1:- I think we should have a DIS meet for the opening!
Once they announce a firm date we should pick a convenient time for everyone to get together and check out the new store!!! (maybe even lunch at ESPN Zone for a full-Disney themed day!)

That would be awesome! I'm game for that :) But I'd vote for Five Napkin Burger for lunch - it's the best burger in the city!!!

Here are some photos from August 18th:

As you can see, the drywall is up. So, we know that they got their roughing inspection done. Still lots more drywall stacked though, so I don't know the condition of the 2nd floor.

There were no postings for job applications, nor is there on Disney's corporate hiring website.

If it's anything like the Roosevelt Field "makeover," prepared to be underwhelmed. The store is a little nicer than it was. And it's moved one door down in the mall. I don't know what I was expected, but it wasn't that.

Also, the interactive stuff was either not working or shut off. And there was one point where I didn't see a single cast member anywhere -- not even behind the cash registers. Maybe that's part of the magic?

Is this the former Virgin Store? If so that is a great location. I think I might have to visit NYC again.

Do come visit! Think of all the lovely photographs you could take! Be sure you get to Top of the Rock. I can give you a list of wonderful food (mostly chocolate) places to go and some great sites to see that aren't necessarily on the tourist maps.

Before mytripsandraces gets me obsessing over Max Brenner's and the Chocolate Bar (too late!!!!).....

Does anyone know for sure if this Times Square Store is just a cookie-cutter Disney Store rehab? I was hoping that the uniqueness of the World of Disney NYC would have been more of the direction, if not the strict rule.

As a New Yorker and Disney Fan I can tell you that ESPN Zone closed a few months ago. The only ESPN Zone that remains is at WDW at the Boardwalk. As a matter of fact the ESPN Zone was renamed ESPN Club. It's the only one that remains in the country. The others were closed.

The new Disney Store will be in part of what used to the Virgin Record Store. On the south corner on the same block is Toys R Us which houses a full size operational Ferris Wheel.

Does anyone know when they will start to hire? I have my resume and cover letter ready to go...This is just the first step to working in the parks...and then the whole Kingdom! :)

I was hoping to snap a picture to update, but it was closed at 3PM.

There was no notice on the outside (other than a less-than-magical "No Loitering" sign) and the Disney website does not list any hiring there.

Maybe it will change when I am there next.

I would be in for a DIS meet. Visiting this store could be my graduation present to myself. Yea, I know, I'm satisfied by the little things in life.

Casting was today at the New Amsterdam theater. I applied, send a little pixie dust my way. I feel like a part of my life died when my old store closed.

They are anticipating an opening to be the first week of November.

Good Luck! I saw the posting on Facebook and wished I could go! :wizard:

The NYC one will be our closest store (and we live in Montreal) so I know we will be happy when it opens!

Any update on the actual opening day? I'm going to be in NYC on November 6anyway and it would be *OH* *SO* *NICE* to be able to visit the store.

Funny, I grew up in NYC and rarely go back, so this would be a nice treat.

WOW we were just in the one in Washington DC at the beginning of the summer.

I'm going to be a part of the opening team!

The store is scheduled to open 11/4

If anyone is interested, there is one more casting this Sat at the Newport Center Mall in NJ from 10-2.

It's going to be nice to be a cast member again :)

Congratulations to Christie!!!

We're going to be in NYC on Saturday, November 6, for a Girl Scout bus trip up anyway and so I will be coming to see the store -- be sure to let me know of any specials that may be available opening week!!!

Have fun! I'll look for you!

Laura

Hooray and Congrats, Christine! That is AWESOME! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

How exciting! I would love to be there for the opening... hoping for a weekend before Christmas with the family. I will PM you when we know we are coming.

Congrats again! Have fun seeing the new store, in training, and getting to see all the people as they get so excited to see the new place. :goodvibes
