Disney Store Times Square Location - Opening Fall 2010

*adds NYC to list of places I need to go to*

Only really for this and the Nintendo Store

Oh my gosh I can't wait for this! Hopefully it'll even better than the one on 5th! Although I try to avoid Times Square, I'm going to have to go for this!!

this is awesome!!! we are going to be there in November :D!

...and this is what a peek in the door looked like:

You can see the opening to the floor below directly in front of you, as well as the stairs going up to the extreme left.

There were no signs about hiring or anything else outside. The store that took the rest of the space to the right (of the former Virgin Megastore) is Forever 21. They had flyers posted that were recruiting sales staff.

Very interesting picture! Looks like they are still in the very early stages of creating the new magical space.

There is only drywall up at this point. I don't know if you can see it, but the left wall is all Duracell ads, which must have been where Virgin was selling batteries.

The picture is taken over a wheeled demolition cart that was carting more garbage out. My guess is July before anything starts coming in. I will be sure to check back.

I stopped by the location today. It hasn't advanced dramatically at all.

Found a site supervisor who told me that they were told the location needs to be ready for October. I will try to post a photo later.

Thank you for the update! I'm looking forward to seeing the picture!

This is the interior on 08 July 2010:

As you can see by comparison, they are still only doing basic work. No magic yet.

Any ideas if they are still shooting for October? If so, that would be great since we might head down there over Canadian Thanksgiving (Oct. 11) and this would be yet another reason to go! :dance3:

Think I just found the answer to my own question...

looks like Disney is now saying November...

http://corporate.disney.go.com/corporate/moreinfo/grand_opening_new_store_design.html

"Other locations to feature the new Disney Store design opening this year include: Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, NY; Santa Monica Place in Santa Monica, CA; International Plaza in Tampa, FL; Fashion Valley in San Diego, CA; Disney Store in Union Square in San Francisco, CA; and a two-story Disney Store in Times Square in November. With each new store opening in 2010, Disney Store will designate a day for 10 percent of the sales to be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the United States."

Yeah, when the pp said the contractor was supposed to turn over the space by October, I figured it would take some more time to finish it & turn it into a store. Generally, a contractor will ready a space per the tenant store's request, and then the store's merchandising team will come in and place the fixtures & furnishings, and finally fill in all the store stock.

I live in Manhattan without a car. Is there a way for me to get to the Roosevelt Field mall?

 Woohoo!! Great, great news!! DH works right in Times Square. He'll be happy, too!

Take the LIRR from Penn Station to Carle Place (approx. 1 hour). From the LIRR Carle Place station, take the LI bus #N22 to Roosevelt Field Mall (approx. 30 minutes).
