Correct. There are many that have been turned off by Disney that either have trips planned and/or are DVC members and are not yet willing to let politics rob them of money that they cannot get refunded. But rest assured once this round of packed parks is done...and once those turned off start selling off their DVCs for lower values (and we'll see a lot of ROFR from Disney taking over) then it will become clear to Disney brass what exactly the consequences are.
By then it might be too late.
Exactly.
Right now the country is split about 50/50 so no matter what side you pick the other will be upset and some will cancel their vacations costing the company money in not only the short run but in the long run. Investors do not like turmoil in a company. This means they won't invest and this means the company will have less money to grow.
It's unfortunate what's happening to Disney but there is many other parks out there.

One thing I'm curious about. With this new law, I wonder how injuries or deaths will now be handled. I know it the past, if someone died on property, they were never actually 'dead on property' according to rumors. I know anytime there's an accident, the yellow tape and investigations go on and on around here. Will be interesting to see the county or state show up with their detectives and yellow tape on property if something goes wrong again.
I was wondering that too. I used to be a cast member and I remember our trainer during orientation telling us that no one has ever died on Disney property (this was 25 years ago). Although Disney bragged about this as if it were the safest theme park, it was explained to us that people who died at Disney would be removed and not declared dead until they crossed the Disney property line. I imagine that they won't be able to do that anymore.

As shareholders, weren't we all just asked to vote about whether Disney political contributions should always be made public or am I dreaming?

The reality is almost all major corporations & industries make political donations...many to both major parties, sometimes specific parties in specific years for specific reasons.

It's legal. A recent visit to Open Secrets dot Org revealed McDonald's info with one click.

I'm no expert. I just really want Disney in FLA to thrive, not only bc I'm a shareholder but bc it's the largest employer in FLA & bc I'm a lifelong believer in the need for WDW magic in this crazy world.
Actually Publix is the top employer in Florida. According to this list, I don't even see Disney in the top 10 list of employers in Florida. https://www.zippia.com/advice/largest-companies-in-florida/

But let's be real, they aren't going anywhere. They barely put any money into the parks to refurb old rides they aren't exactly going to pick up and move everything to a new state. At worst it's just going to be business as usual only way more contentious between the company and state. Until there's a normal board installed and we can go back to being the Disney everyone knows and loves.

I know they aren't going anywhere but I have a feeling it's going to be a long while if ever that Disney goes back to what people love

I've only been to WDW once, in 2019. If they brought back Magical Express, park hopping ANYTIME, and free Magic Bands, and brought back FastPass & got rid of that stupid Genie+ and reservation system, it'd be pretty close to what my 2019 experience was, and I'd be good with that.

What Disney is right now, I have no interest in spending $$ to experience. And that has NOTHING to do with politics. It's just that going would involve WAY more stress than fun, and I'm not down with that ratio.

Unfortunately I don't see those things coming back ever. The good news is since you are in NW Ohio you do have an amazing park right in your backyard in Cedar Point.

I most certainly do! :-) I bought my 2022 season pass last August and I'm looking forward to spending a LOT of Saturdays in the park and on that fantastic beach. I grew up in Sandusky and went there MANY times growing up. To tell you the truth, if you'd taken me to WDW when I was a kid in the 1970s I'm not sure I would have said I preferred it to CP - especially since Magic Kingdom doesn't have anything like my favorite ride, Cedar Downs. No fairy castle can beat a racing carousel IMO! That's just me, tho.

There's always the pipe dream that someone with a ton of money will pull an Elon Musk like he's doing with Twitter. One can dream anyway.

It's happened before with this company. The Bass brothers put up a sackful of money and then brought in Michael Eisner. James Stewart's Disney Wars tells all about it.

I was watching an interview with the past CEO of Mc Donalds and he was once told that, and I am going to paraphrase this, that " corporations need to stay out of politics and social engineering and concentrate on making money for their share holders and let the share holders spend their money on what ever they want"

In the end, in my opinion, if corporate CEOs would just stay neutral on these types of subject mater they would not have some of the problems we are now talking about and it is not just Disney.

I watched that interview last night also - very well stated.

I've been on here a bit, but for me (and this was even prior to the latest "mess" from Chepak) was this trip is probably one of our last Disney trips, prices and benefits are out of control, and it will be that our vacation $ goes a lot further elsewhere.

My wife and I loved Disney. We are Disney Vacation Club members for over 25 years. We visited Disney several times a year. We had annual passes for years. We have been on 13 seven day Disney Cruises.

We have decide it is no longer worth it any longer.

Over the last few years we have seen all the nickle and dimming to try to increase the bottom line and we did not like it. All you have to do is read all the comments on the Dis board and other forums to know this.
I believe that a business should make as much money for it's stock holders as possible however I believe in value for my dollars spent.

A lot of it started for us when ticket prices kept going up and less was offered especial with all the construction going on at the parks. Nothing like paying full price when as much as 25% or more of the park was unavailable.

Another thing even tho it does not effect us because we are DVC was when they started charging for parking at the resort. I think Disney's response when asked about this was "well everyone else is doing it".
The main reason people loved Disney was because they were not like everyone else however now they are.

Other than our DVC membership My wife and I are drastically reducing our money spent with Disney. We canceled two cruises with Disney this year knowing we can use that money with other cruise lines for many more cruises than Disney.

We have reduced the amount of money we spend dramatically when we visit because we no longer go to the parks.
We will eat off property more knowing Disney decided to raise prices while lowing food portion sizes.

In the end if more people start to cancel their vacations or reduce the money spent while visiting Disney will feel it, it will effect their bottom line and the stock will continue to decline. Investors do not like it when company profits decline and not increase.

We’ll see when the 50th ends how serious people are about not going anymore. The thing is people 18-44 or so just enjoy playing identity politics on social media. The parks are jam packed and I get the argument that people are there for the 50th and celebrating time missed there from COVID. But it’s not going to slow down much. We all know it. They’re too big.

I don't know. I do think it will slow down. I don't think Disney is as big as people think they are anymore. Once Epic Universe opens it's going to a major game changer. Once it does Universal changes from 2-3 day visit to almost a week long visit. Its going to eat into Disney a lot. I know many hear either don't believe that or want to believe that but it will probably happen.

Until we see actual attendance numbers we will not know for sure how packed they are. Right now in my opinion they still aren't running close to the capacity they were in the past. They don't have enough staff to do that. As such I don't think attendance is as high.

Agreed. I think it feels busier as well due to lack of shows open that take in a lot of people. So there is more people in walkways instead of tied up on shows or attractions.

It's just my opinion but it feels like many in here don't want to believe that Disney might go into a down turn.

I don’t disagree but I mean we’ve had 6 hour lines for pop corn buckets. To insinuate the parks aren’t very full is wrong in my opinion. But you’re right without numbers we don’t know for sure, Disney has already admitted they won’t get back to 60k in MK so I don’t think they even have that as a goal. But I’d venture to say we’re in the 30-40k a day range right now, on busy days. Which might be what Disney wants their capacity to be.

What are you basing Disney not being that big on though? People have been claiming Universal will take over for the better part of a decade now. But Super Nintendo World is like 2 rides. Also I’m in the group that hopes it does slow down because my last few trips have been packed lol I’ll take an emptier one. I just don’t see the doom and gloom others do.

Years ago Disney World would have seasons. Slower times when the kids were in school and busy times when they were out of school. It was even cheaper to visit in the off season.
Over the last several years Disney no longer has seasons it's busy all the time.
I could see it going back to the on seasons/off season way it used to be especially when the 50th is over.
