Disney SPECTACLEFEST 8/5-8/12! *COMPLETE*-- with pics!

Praying Colonel said:
After dinner, we took our time shopping and exploring the grounds, then walked out to the beach for Wishes. DW missed the accompanying music, but we found a speaker and positioned by it. The beach area was cool with low humidity (for Florida in August!), and the fireworks were beautiful in the distance. It was a great family moment to share.

This is what I remember as my all time "Family Moment" at WDW. In 2000, we went to the Poly Beach our first night, and watched the fireworks from there. The boys were playing in the sand, DH laying on the Hammock and me relaxing - breathing - taking it all in.
Since then, I have always wanted to stay at the Poly. My DH is taking me there for my 40th Bday weekend next week!

Enjoying your report very much - I love seeing a report with older kids, and knowing that families of all ages can enjoy Disney.

DW and I were up around 7 and continued our morning ritual of going to the CSR Dig Site hot tub for a morning soak. Then we went to Pepper Market to fill our mugs and back to the room to roust the kids.

We were at the bus stop by 8:30, but the bus didn't come until around 8:50. Still, we walked into Epcot a little after 9, right on our (revised) schedule of arriving at or shortly after rope drop.

DSCF0083-1.jpg

Today we were doing Day 2 of the UG Epcot touring plan, so we started at Test Track.

DSCF0091-2.jpg

As you can see, there was quite a line at 9:05, which we thought was unusual. But they hadn't opened the attraction yet, and a couple of minutes later we all filtered in and we rode after about a 10-minute wait. We had a lot of fun--we'd only done TT once, as single riders, but this time we enjoyed the pre-show and we all screamed and yelled together when we got up to speed outside.

After TT, we headed for Mission: Space.

DSCF0100-1.jpg

DW didn't think her stomach was up to the Orange team training, but she is a M:S purist. She didn't want to back down and do the yellow--I mean, Green ;) -- team, so she decided just to sit out M:S, much to DD's chagrin (this would be a trend today, for some reason). So while DD, DS and I headed to M:S, DW graciously agreed to walk over to the Land pavilion and get FP's for Soarin', saying we should meet in Mouse Gear after M:S.

As I said in my Day 1 report, M:S is my favorite attraction in all of WDW. However, I was a little motion sick after experiencing it on an empty stomach on Day 1. This time I did much better on a full stomach and we all enjoyed M:S as much as we always do. The blastoff sequence is always a thrill.

DD turned her ankle slightly when we were heading out of M:S. We didn't think much of it, but it would be a bigger deal later.

We all met in Mouse Gear and did a little bit of shopping. We'd never experienced Innoventions because it always seemed to be packed in there. This time we poked our heads in and it was pretty empty, so we walked in and looked around. Our general consensus was "lame," but we did prepare and send a video postcard to family, which was pretty cool.

Our window for Soarin' didn't begin until 10:50, so we went to the Land pavilion to do Living With The Land or Circle of Life while we waited.

DSCF0104-2.jpg

The standby line was pretty long for LWTL, so we experienced CoL. We enjoy this movie OK, but the message is kinda preachy. I wouldn't want to see this more than every couple of years (which is, unfortunately, about as often we get to visit WDW :guilty: ).

Our FP window for Soarin' was now open, so we got in the FP line and experienced the attraction, having as much fun as we had the previous 2 times we'd experienced it on our trip. Soarin' is a crowd magnet unlike just about anything we experienced in WDW that week. When we entered, the standby wait was 45 minutes. I looked again on the way out and noticed that the standby wait time was now 70 minutes. Even with FP, our wait was 20 minutes, the longest we had to wait in a FP line all week.

At this point we started a tour of WS on the east side with Mexico. On our way, we saw an interesting acrobatic group performing.

DSCF0106-1.jpg

We did some browsing through the Mexico shops and then rode the infamous:

DSCF0112-1.jpg

(I can hear the melody even now.... )

After Mexico we walked to Norway

DSCF0117-1.jpg

and had lunch. While eating, a cool little ensemble serenaded us with Norwegian folk songs.

DSCF0122-1.jpg

After lunch we walked onto the Maelstrom and experienced it, then stayed for the film, which we always enjoy. If you haven't seen it, it's worth seeing at least once.

Next we walked over to China.

DSCF0129.jpg

The pavilion is under refurb and the acrobats weren't performing, to our disappointment. We always enjoy them. We waited about 10 minutes, enjoying the garden outside, then saw "Reflections of China." Our family always enjoys this 360 film and thinks it's one of the underrated films in WDW.

Exiting "Reflections," we met Mulan!

DSCF0135.jpg

This was a first for us. DW loves that movie, and she was charmed by Mulan and her way of speaking ("Are you on your way to see the matchmaker?" "It was my honor to meet you.")

After this we walked to Germany

DSCF0138.jpg

and Italy.

DSCF0143.jpg

We were rushed for time on our last WDW trip and didn't get to visit these two countries, so we decided we had to see them this time. We were very impressed with the architecture (and the chocolate! :teeth: ) and enjoyed strolling around.

However, it was now around 2 and we'd been walking in a hot, intense Florida sun for a few hours now. It was time (past time, actually) to pack it in and take our afternoon break. But we still wanted to see The American Adventure before we left. What to do?

We decided that since it was inside and air-conditioned, we'd head to the American pavilion see TAA and leave after that. So we headed over.

The show wasn't quite ready to start, but there was a chorus singing in the lobby. We all enjoyed them very much. When they sang their last song, "The Star-Spangled Banner," everyone stood and removed their hats, and some folks (like us) placed their hands over their hearts. It was a moving experience and I was a little misty.

Poor DW--she's now 0-for-TAA. She just has a hard time staying awake when she sits down in a cool, dark place, especially when she's tired. She slept through TAA on our last trip and was really looking forward to seeing it this time, but she just couldn't stay awake this time, either. Maybe next time, dear....

DSCF0146.jpg

By this time it was close to 3 and it was definitely time--past time--to pack it in for our rest break. We'd gone longer than we planned, and the sun and heat were getting to us. We'd had 3 days with no rain (very unusual for Florida in August, according to our experience), and the sun was particularly intense on this day. However, we had a not-so-magical discussion with DD because not only (a) did she want to stay and shop, but (b) she insisted DW stay with her, in spite of DW obviously being exhausted. If DD wanted to stay and shop and ride the bus back to CSR, that was fine, but IMHO she was being selfish in insisting that DW forego a needed rest break to shop with her. Eventually we reached a compromise :grouphug: where DW would shop with DD in WS the next day, so we headed out of Epcot for our break.

As we walked (and walked...and walked...and walked some more....), we were reminded of something: Epcot's a big park! And if you're on the far side of WS, you've got a long way to go to leave the park. And if you're already exhausted, it seems even longer! We should've left a little extra in the gas tank for our walk out of the park. After a 20-minute wait for our bus, our bus dropped off at our resort's Bus Stop 2 first. We decided that Bus Stop 1 at our resort should be renamed "The Ironically-Named Bus Stop 1," because it never seemed to be first. :confused3 We were growing less impressed with WDW transportation and resolved to drive our van from this point on. DW wanted to get off at BS 2, so we hauled ourselves across our resort to our room and collapsed onto our beds.

We were pretty pooped, but had planned on touring MGM that evening before a late dinner at the Boardwalk. Should we just skip MGM and take a longer break? Again we reached another compromise. :grouphug: We'd go to MGM and do Millionaire and the Backlot Tour (two things the kids wanted to do and we'd not done yet), then shop a little and head to the Boardwalk for dinner at Spoodles.

We got up around 5:30 and were out the door to MGM.

DSCF0150-1.jpg

Even though we were beat, I was glad we'd decided to go to MGM. I always enjoy seeing the art deco architecture and early Hollywood theming of the Studios.

We went to Millionaire, and the first fastest-finger question was right in DS' wheelhouse: list 4 Pixar films in order, from most to least recent. He nailed it but just missed getting into the Hot Seat, being in the top 5. The show was a little short (about 20 minutes by my count), but we enjoyed it, as usual. There was about 90% attendance for this last show of the day. We're surprised it's closing since interest in the show still seems to be high, and we're sorry to see it go.

We then walked down to the Backlot Tour. Although the BLT didn't have the initial scene working with the extras from the crowd, it was still fun to see the props from the movies, experience Catastrophe Canyon and see the villain room (which contained Darth Vader's costume, the Wicked Witch's hat, etc.)

Walking away from the BLT, we noticed that DD was limping badly. She said the ankle she'd turned earlier was really hurting her now. So while DW and DS went to shop, I continued my tour of the park first aid stations with DD.

DSCF0176-1.jpg

"Next up: WDW First Aid Station Reviews" ;)

The very nice nurse iced DD's ankle and gave us Ibuprofen, an ace bandage for DD and some extra bandages for DS' injured toe. I told DD that I thought it would be tough for her to do WS tomorrow, but she was very excited about shopping and said she'd baby her ankle. DW and DS met us and we headed to the Boardwalk for dinner.

After an exceptional dinner at Spoodles (soon to be in my dining reviews), DW and I strolled along the Boardwalk while DD and DS sat on a bench and talked. There was soft music playing in the distance, and DW and I shared a dance in a private area by the water. She thought it was a romantic way to end the evening, and we think we may stay at the BW when we return for an adults-only trip in January 08.

We were back to the room by 11 and slept the sleep of the dead after a big, fun day.

Next: Day 7: A series of "lasts"

I feel like we are getting to know a bit about your family and feeling as if we are visiting with you. Can't wait to read more (and hope that your son's toenail and your daughter's ankle are doing better!)

Hello from a fellow KY DISer! Wonderful trip report!! I have really enjoyed your report so far! Please keep it up! :)

Continuing to enjoy your report and pics! I'm taking a big hint from your report that afternoon breaks will be planned in our trip! Altho not sure how hot it will be in late October, but still think a break is important esp to the "family's" state of mind (mostly mine).

Can't wait to read more!

So far on this trip we'd followed the advice given by both TGM and the UG: avoid EMH's like the plague, especially the evening EMH. If anything, go to a park the day after it has an evening EMH, because the park is usually slow that morning. And we'd had good success following this advice.

But this day we were going straight against this advice and going to evening EMH at MK. What would cause us to ignore our own experience that week and the advice of 2 excellent resources?

Simple: it was our last day in the parks. :guilty: The whole family probably wouldn't be back here until 2008 (and maybe not even then, since DD would be in college at that point and may have other plans).

So we wanted to suck the marrow from the Walt Disney World bones, so to speak, and be in the parks as long as possible. Even if MK was too crowded to experience any attractions, walking down Main Street would still be worth it. So we decided to do evening EMH at MK that day.

But we were still pretty beat from our previous day at Epcot and MGM. DD's ankle was swollen and hurting. DS' toe that he'd injured on Day 3 was holding up OK, but you never know.

We decided that in order to stay at MK until 1:00 a.m., we'd have to take a longer afternoon break than normal. The plan was to do Epcot until 12:30 or 1, then back to the room for a break. After that, it was Downtown Disney for dinner and shopping, then MK EMH.

1 problem: WS didn't open until 11, and DD was more interested in WS than FW. She had the "WS Shopping Bug," big-time! She wanted to sleep in and miss FW. DW wasn't interested in most of what we were going to see at FW (Imagination and Seas pavilions), so for the first time we had a split family schedule: DS and I would go to FW while the women slept in, then we'd meet for lunch.

After my morning ritual of a soak at the Dig Site pool area, I grabbed a couple of rolls from the Pepper Market for a quick breakfast for DS and me. Then I got him up and we drove over to Epcot.

DSCF0061-2.jpg

^Don't know how I got this pic, but this is Epcot the way it should look--no magic wand

Even though we didn't leave until around 8:40, we still arrived in time to see the opening ceremony. Then it was time for the "Stampede to Soarin'"!

DSCF0064-1.jpg

We'd already experienced Soarin' 3 times during the week via FP. This was our first time doing it at park opening. Well, I think I have a pretty good idea where the crowd goes at rope drop! CM's did as good a job as possible in holding back the crowd, but it was crazy!

Somehow we avoided being trampled and were in the 2nd group for Soarin'. Got top row again, and it was as much a thrill as before. I could experience this attraction all day long.

(Little factoid: We sat next to a man whose daughter is a CM. He said that the guy hitting the golf ball is Michael Eisner. Sure looked like him, but we only got a brief glimpse.)

After Soarin', we walked over to the Imagination Pavilion to see "Honey I Shrunk" and "Figment."

DSCF0066-1.jpg

We were the first ones there! The CM's said they thought they'd be doing the first showing to an empty room. Turned out 5 of us saw "Honey." We still enjoyed it thoroughly. Then we walked over and saw Figment, which we enjoy more than most folks apparently do.

As we were walking over to the Seas pavilion, we realized we'd forgotten about Living With The Land! :headache: We walked in and found a "mere" 20-minute wait, so we decided to do LWTL now. As we found during most of our waits that week, the wait time was actually much shorter and we enjoyed LWTL after about a 10-minute wait.

Then it was off to the Seas pavilion. First we walked in and saw that it was only a 10-minute wait for Crush, so we queued up and experienced it since we'd never seen it before. What a treat! I got the idea that it was mainly for kids and that it was merely a "cute" thing for adults to experience. Big mistake! Both DS and I thought Crush was very funny and we enjoyed it immensely. Can't wait to bring DD and DW here to see it next time.

Then we walked around and looked at the exhibits. The 1 previous time we'd been to the Living Seas, we were having to do Epcot commando-style because we only had 1 day. So our experience at the Seas was like the Griswolds in "Vacation" when they visited the Grand Canyon--just nodded our heads a couple of times at the exhibits, said, "OK, let's go!" and we were off. This time DS and I were able to take our time and this was one of our best Epcot experiences. The dolphins were showing off in the tanks, and DS thought the sharks and rays were cool, too. I don't know how to scuba, but seeing this makes me want to get certified, just so I can do the tour where you get to scuba with the sea life. Very cool stuff.

It was around 11:30 by this time, so I called DW and DD, and they were just coming in and were by the Imagination pavilion. We met at Nemo

DSCF0097-2.jpg

and walked back inside and looked around some more. Then we headed for WS and lunch.

DSCF0100-2.jpg

We noticed that several folks from the UK were eating fish and chips right along with us. Made us wonder: are fish and chips "UK comfort food," like Americans eating at McDonalds while traveling overseas, or southerners eating at a Cracker Barrel? :confused3 Anyway, we thought that the fish and chips must be pretty good if the folks from the UK were eating here, too.

DS and I were sorely tempted to stick around a little longer and walk WS with the women, but we learned our lesson from the previous day about how WS can really take it out of you. We left the van keys with the women to drive back and we headed toward the bus stop to ride back for our afternoon break.

On the way back through FW, we stopped for the afternoon fountain show. It was the 1st time we'd experienced it, and the music and fountain sequences were just beautiful. DS loves Epcot just like he loves all things WDW, and it was a special moment for us to share together.

After visiting Club Cool (no Beverly :( ), we walked out to the bus stop and our bus was waiting for us! (DW and DD would be so jealous--they'd had to wait about 30 minutes for the Epcot bus earlier that morning). We got back to CSR around 1:30 and took a big, long nap!

The women returned around 3:00 and got a shorter nap. Then we were up around 4, got ready and drove to Downtown Disney for dinner and shopping.

We had dinner at Cap'n Jacks, then started our shopping at World of Disney.

DSCF0111-1.jpg

We'd never been to Downtown Disney before, and we were blown away by the size of this store! We had a AAA 10% discount, so we put off a lot of our shopping for this store.

I was still in search of a CSR pin and couldn't find one anywhere, so DS and I walked down to Pin Traders.

DSCF0132.jpg

Lots and lots of pins, and lots of lots of pins for all the resorts--except CSR. Even CSR didn't have CSR pins! Never figured out why this was so, but I left WDW without a CSR pin. Maybe I can find one online, but it's not quite the same as buying it onsite....

We met the women at Ghirardelli

DSCF0133.jpg

and got a free sample of chocolate with caramel. Very good, but man, do you need water after that sample! We decided they could make a killing by giving free sample of chocolate/caramel, then selling water for $10.00/bottle. :teeth:

After this we went to the Disney Christmas store and bought an ornament as a memento of our trip. By this time it was 9 and time for us to get to MK for evening EMH! We'd not even scratched the surface of shopping Downtown Disney. We'll definitely allot more time here on our next trip.

After losing our van in the humongous, poorly-lit parking lot (a not-so-magical moment), we were off to MK. So far this trip we hadn't been on the monorail, which we consider an attraction in and of itself. So we finally got to do that.

DSCF0135-1.jpg

We got our wristbands and entered Main Street. It was beautifully lit.

DSCF0139.jpg

I've only seen MK in the dark on a couple of occasions, and this pic doesn't do justice to the wonderful atmosphere set by the lights on the buildings.

We'd done a great job of avoiding crowds for the week, experiencing only glancing blows at high-volume attractions like Soarin' and Everest. But there was no avoiding them now--Main Street was jam-packed! :crowded: This, combined with the sticky evening air, made us feel like those little steamed dumplings you see on a Chinese buffet.

Still, we thoroughly enjoyed Wishes.

DSCF0141.jpg

This was our first time this week seeing it up close and personal. (We'd watched it from the beach at the Poly on Wednesday.) This is always a magical time for our family, and even with the gathered horde squishing us, we loved it this time, too.

We'd put together a rough plan of what we wanted to do first--we were starting in Fantasyland with Pooh! So we battled our way to the castle, commenting that this must be what salmon feel like as they work their way upstream. Finally we made it to Pooh.

DSCF0144.jpg

We didn't know that FP's weren't available for this evening EMH, and we were kinda worried about the wait times. But we only had to wait 10 minutes for Pooh, and we'd learn that most of the EMH wait times would be very slight or nonexistent.

After Pooh, we walked right into the next showing of Philharmagic.

DSCF0145.jpg

Our whole family just loves Philharmagic and we were glad we could experience it 1 last time.

Then it was off to Splash Mountain!

DSCF0146-1.jpg

Although the listed wait was 20 minutes, it was more like 10-15. Both Splash and BTMRR (which we did next, with only a 5-minute wait) are completely different experiences in the dark. You can't see what curve or drop is coming next. I highly recommend it!

After Splash we were heading to Pirates.

DSCF0148.jpg

But on the way, DW stepped in a little indentation in the pavement and hyperextended her knee. Ouch! She walked it off and said she didn't need first aid, but was still limping as we headed to Adventureland.

We were quite a sight--DW limping with her knee, DD limping with her ankle, DS hobbled slightly with his injured toe. I felt like the healthiest one--I merely had a strained back! I guess it was time for our vacation to be over--who knows what other injuries would befall us if we stayed another day?

After walking right onto Pirates with no wait, we stopped for a Dole Whip break. We had about 45 minutes left and thought we'd try either Space or Buzz in Tomorrowland before closing. Turned out that both had waits that pushed us past park closing, so that was it for attractions. If we'd known that, we would've experienced Pirates again, but we still had great fun during EMH.

After some brief shopping on Main Street, we headed out. We always stop before exiting and look back down Main Street for 1 last glimpse at Cinderella Castle. We were sad to be going, but we'd had a lot of fun that day and made a lot of memories. On the way to the monorail, we saw Minnie

DSCF0151.jpg

and DS said, "See ya real soon!"

Monorail to tram to van to CSR, and we were back in our room by 1:30, exhausted but happy after a wonderful day.

Next: Departure Day and Final Thoughts

You mentioned AAA 10% discount at World of Disney. Is this something you get just by showing your card or did you have a coupon?

By the way, I am really enjoying your trip and dining reports!!

AAA provides a special discount card along with your other trip materials (Diamond Parking Pass, reservations, etc.) when you book the package through them.

And thanks for the kind words. :)

I heard that fish and chips are like hamburgers for American. Confort food!!!
BTW, LOVE YOUR REPORT!...Like the way you detailed everthing. It'll help to plan my next trip!! :cheer2:

I am crying my trip , err I mean your trip is over :sad1:

Thanks so much for a nice report and pics!
5 days and we will be there :cheer2:

but I get so bummed thinking how quickly time goes and then it is all over

When is 8:00 a.m. sleeping late? When you've been getting up at 6:15-7 all week!

But we'd been in MK until 1 a.m.--and this was departure day. :guilty: So today we slept in a little longer.

After rising at 8, DW and I left to go to Pepper Market and bring back bakery goodies for breakfast. Upon leaving, we saw the saddest sight a person on a WDW vacation can see: the checkout envelope hanging from your door.
:(

We ate, showered, packed and were out of good ol' Room 9505 approximately 2 minutes before our 11:00 a.m. checkout time.

The fitness center manager encouraged us to make use of the pool and fitness center facilities on the day of our checkout, so we took him up on the offer and headed for the Dig Site pool.

DSCF0159-1.jpg

DSCF0162-1.jpg

DSCF0164.jpg

Although we were having a lot of fun hanging around the pool, we had a 15-hour drive we had to begin at some point. So around 1:30 we showered, changed and headed to Pepper Market for our last WDW meal. After that we lingered at the gift shop:

DSCF0175-1.jpg

and lingered over taking some final photos:

DSCF0173-1.jpg

DSCF0174-1.jpg

but finally we'd lingered about as long as we could, so we piled into the Family Roadster and headed north on 429 toward Florida's Turnpike, I-75 and home.

As we passed through the entrance/exit archway on 429, we saw a sign saying "See ya real soon!" and we all said "Awwwwwww...." We'd had a bunch of fun that week, but were still sad to be leaving.

We stopped at a rest area on I-75 and saw this sign:

DSCF0176-2.jpg

Yikes! We don't have too many poisonous snakes in our rest stops in Kentucky--or maybe we do and just don't call attention to them. Hmmm.... :rolleyes1

We drove to Macon, GA and stayed in The World's Worst Residence Inn. We wanted to stay someplace nice to decompress from the Disney experience, but that place was definitely a big letdown, and I strongly recommend going elsewhere if you're staying in Macon.

After a late Waffle House breakfast the next morning, we drove the remaining 8 hours home, arriving around 6 p.m. When the kids were little, they had this little thing they'd do when a movie ended that they'd enjoyed. They'd look at each other and in an "Eeyore" tone of voice would say, "It's over." As we pulled into the driveway DW and I looked at each other and said, "It's over." The kids didn't appreciate the irony.

Final thoughts on our trip:

--Driving straight through to WDW: We (I) drove straight through the night to arrive on Saturday morning. I made it OK and still had fun that first day, but I don't think I could do that again. The good news is that I probably won't have to: our next trip is tentatively scheduled for 12/08, and we should have 4 licensed drivers at that point. :cool1:

--Immersed in the Magic: This was our first time staying onsite, and I now know what folks meant when they said you miss out on a lot of the Magic if you don't stay onsite. It's just a completely different experience, and I don't think we'll ever stay offsite again.

--Light in August: Crowds were a lot lighter than we thought they'd be for early August. I think some of it may be due to folks scheduling their vacations for later in the month when free dining started, and some of it was due to our making good use of TGM/UG's recommended park days. We followed their advice (which was usually the same) and found crowds to be very manageable, especially for the first couple of hours after park opening. The longest we ever waited in a line for an attraction was 20 minutes, but it was because we did some planning before we left. We probably would've had much longer waits if we'd just winged it.

--No tourists behaving badly: we didn't see a bit of the bad behavior that's the frequent subject of discussion on the DIS. No line cutting, no sitting down in the middle of the theatre and refusing to move to the right, no strollers being used as instruments of destruction, no parents berating their kids (or vice versa ;) ). Maybe it was because the crowds were relatively light, or maybe we just lucked out and missed those occasions when it happened. But it was a welcome change from our last WDW trip.

--Partial list of things we didn't get around to experiencing even though we were there for 7 days: Lights/Motor/Action, Indiana Jones, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Magic of Disney Animation, Ellen's Energy Adventure, O Canada, Impressions de France, Spectramagic, Jungle Cruise, Snow White. And we were there 7 days! Maybe I can sell DW on a 10-day trip next time.

--AK: This was our first time visiting AK, and from listening to some WDW podcasts and how they criticized AK, we didn't expect much. But this was the most pleasant surprise for us this week. We enjoyed every single attraction we experienced there (with the exception of DW not liking ITTBAB). No, it's not a full-day park yet, but that was OK with us--plenty of time to go back and revisit attractions you really liked, or go back to the resort for a break before the evening.

--Epcot: Ever chew on something and it seems that you can't swallow it--the more you chew, the bigger it gets? Epcot seems that way for us--in a good way. ;) The more we experience Epcot, the more time we find it takes us to see everything. We spent large parts of 2 days and smaller parts of 3 others in Epcot and still missed things we wanted to do like Ellen's Energy Adventure, O Canada and Impressions de France. We now feel that Epcot's a 3-day park if you're going to do any kind of serious browsing through WS.

--Fastpass: I've read here on the DIS that the idea behind FP was to free up folks to do more shopping and spending. I can't speak for others, but we definitely fell for it. :teeth: Our strategic use of FP allowed us to spend a couple of hours, at least, shopping in each of MK/Epcot/MGM. And we wouldn't have done that if we'd had to spend that time waiting in standby. I noticed they were using fewer and fewer FP machines when we were there--maybe because of the relatively low crowds, maybe because they're phasing them out at certain attractions, maybe for some other reason, I don't know. But I do hope they keep FP as intact as possible.

--Our next family trip is tentatively scheduled for December 08. Normally we go every other year during the summer (due to the kids' school schedules), but we've never been there in December, so we're looking forward to being there at that time of year. The decorations must be beautiful--and I can't imagine being there when the temperature isn't set to broil! :goodvibes

Well, that's it for our report! Thanks for reading, and thanks to all who've posted nice comments. Here's hoping your trip is as magical as ours was!

Sorry to see your trip end! I really enjoyed your trip report - the photos were fun to see & I love your recap at the end! :thumbsup2

Sounds like your family had an awesome trip together & December is a great time to go - nothing beats seeing the Magic Kingdom all dressed up for the holidays! :teeth:

Great trip report. I have enjoyed every minute. I felt like my family was right there with yours. But you are all a bunch of early risers. Kind of gives me a little inspiration for my trip.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
