Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I'm sure that if this is reality that they have heavily studied the loading/unloading process

Yeah the only way the idea gets to this stage is by researching all these different safety factors and regulations. If they didn't think they could get it to work they wouldn't be this far. It will be interesting to see what modifications will have to be made for wheelchairs and scooters. Perhaps a separate loading platform?

The system is not about getting people from Epcot to DHS, there are already boats and walking paths for this. This system is about getting people efficiently from the resorts to the parks and back.

This is a quibble but ... I think it's more accurate to say, this system is about hyping timeshare sales in what would otherwise be a rather unappealing location.

If its was strictly about transportation improvements over bus and monorail then we might have seen this planned for other more high-volume locations such as Pop, All Stars, or Disney Springs-TTC.

Well, POP and AoA are getting this ....

I think its about both, but its all about $$$.

This is going to allow them to sell DVC @ CBR for a much higher price, also going to make it more attractive. Its probably going to allow them to increase room prices at CBR, Pop and AoA. Its going to likely save them a ton of cash on buses, as once this system is purchased it will cost much less to operate than the buses and probably have lower capital replacement cost over time (no idea how often parts of the system need to be replaced, but I imagine not as often as buses need work or need to be replaced.)

Now, for me, I actually don't mind this kind of thing, even though its likely to cost people a little more to stay at those resorts. If it doesn't great, disney is going to save a bunch of money (and make some at DVC) AND guests are getting a more efficient transit service that will make their stays better. If they do increase the costs of rooms, well, they have been doing that for years with NO benefits to the guest, at least with this there will be something actually GAINED by paying the extra $10 a night :)

Well this seems this is happening and I'm surprised Disney hasn't announced it yet.

This is obviously to create another premium route for the hotels and DVC like those on the monorail router around Magic Kingdom.

I'll certainly use the gondola system and I think they're quite cool, my only issue is that I think it's going to look ugly as hell

Yes, I agree that is part of selling the rumored CBR DVC, but I also think this could be a first phase of a larger system. CBR, Pop and AoA have a total of around 7000 rooms and DHS will become a very busy park when Star Wars Land opens so this is a good choice as a starting point.

I think they are waiting to announce it along with the CBR DVC announcement, and DVCs normally don't get announced until much closer to completion.

It's gonna take me awhile to let that one soak in...

...more to follow...

No issue with the price increase that's about to be released on Hiroshima?

I mean, we will have to see how much they increase the prices of these rooms of course. But like I said, at least there would be some benefit for this price increase, unlike all the others of late.

I should also say, it will be interesting to see if they start pricing CBR, AoA, .... ugh, Pop, like they are somehow monorail level resorts.

I could SEE them TRYING to do this, and unfortunately I could also see people buying in. I mean, If the Monorail was the high tech Transit of 1970s, maybe the Gondola is the high tech transit of the 2020s. And with access to Two parks, well, you can see the argument forming itself.

Of course, we are talking CBR, PoP, AoA ... but hey, that's never stopped WDW :)

Not sure what Hiroshima is but if you mean rise on room rates then everyone knows Disney by now and that it's expected
I'm not talking $15 here...
...and you didn't get the bomb reference, huh?

What's going on in your world...and I'm not talking about THE WORLD

She's talking about being afraid of heights. Doesn't matter how safe they may be.

My concern is about how they will evac them in an emergency.

I get that...I'm just goofing...

I have a weirder curisority: how do they secure them/avoid damage when a tropical storm moves through?

$100 minimum to start...is my guess...
