Disney Skyliner Accident

I am pleased that it is not smooth sailing.

That is a bit troubling. We all like to be proven right, but deriving joy from bad things happening is kind of uncool.

how hot they get when not moving in mild temperatures in the dark.

I ask this with all sincerity, have we seen any reports of this? All of the stories I have seen online refer to the slowness of the rescue and not the temperature in the cabins while people were stranded.

If and when I ride, I will definitely wear a long, flowy skirt.

Or provide at least 10 - one size fits all unisex disposable “skirts” in the emergency kits. Seriously.

Can you provide a link? Is it still posted? Or has the comment been changed? In the midst of a situation, even PR people can give misinformation. Is Disney's own blog still saying that there was no one in the gondolas? Or have they updated it to remove incorrect information?



I'll give Disney the benefit of the doubt about not commenting at this point. This incident happened less than 24 hours ago. They gave an official statement. They may not be commenting because they don't want to give out false information because they may not completely know and understand what happened yet.

After reading the article you shared which included a story about the family of 6 that was stuck for 2 hours wondering at 1 point whether they would have to sleep in their gondola, I am wondering if Disney should include pillows in the emergency supplies for naps.

I don’t have a problem about them not commenting. But they should have done that last night when things were even less clear instead of failing to verify internal information and as a result putting out incorrect/misleading facts immediately.

I've watched a few videos where vloggers tested the temps when it stopp for short periods of time- temperature increases were very small. I'm sure with time it would warm up, but I've also read there is emergency a/c as well. I know when we rode it and it would pause for a few minutes, it did warm up only slightly- nothing uncomfortable at all. From my understanding, the humidity is less inside the gondolas as well- perhaps from being up in the air. What I do know is Disney would not install a system where people would die from heat in a matter of a couple of hours should there be a problem. One might not like Disney, but they aren't that stupid either.

Safer to just stay at the Boardwalk and walk to HS and Epcot.

I would definitely choose the creepy clown pool over the flying death boxes!

People have posted that the gondolas have an emergency exhaust fan, not a/c. An exhaust fan won’t be enough during mid day in the summer if guests are stuck for 3 plus hours. For short waits, maybe, if the fan is activated and if it works.

Last night around 7:35ish, my wife and I were at Food and Wine and decided to take the gondala from Epcot to try out the ride.. The ride was pretty smooth. Lines were about 20 minutes long. They fit 7 of us in our gondala. All the gondalas that left Epcot had poeple in them. There wasn't an airconditioning system or fans - just slots that there air can blow through (knew that ahead of time). The ride went through Riviera. There was a slight bump when you got to the platform. The doors open at the platform but the cast members don't let you off at that station (people did try to get off there). The next stop was the Carribean resort. About 100 yards from that station, the ride stopped. There were announcements that there were technical difficulties. After 5 minutes, the ride proceeded and we got off the ride at Carribean Resort. All 3 gondala rides meet at the carriban beach resort. All rides had at least a 15-20 wait. My wife didnt want to get back on (didnt like the motion of the gondalas). Had to take the inner resort bus from the gondala stop to one of the bus stops in Carribean beach and then a bus back to epcot.

The only issues I saw with the ride, were 1) a slight bump when we got to the Riviera station and 2) at the Carribean beach resort when you come into the station, you slow down quickly and the gondala swings forward (close to the gondala in front of you).

Disney couldn’t pay me to get on one of those gondolas. I’m really not great with heights, but this incident seals the deal for me.

I've had reservations about the Skyliner but have tried to suppress my anxiety to my husband and son and daughter in law since we do spend a lot of time in the Boardwalk area and World Showcase. Ask a kid in NH, ski lifts and gondolas were a way of life and I never thought about it. I think there was a heater in some gondolas as we were out there in -20+ temperatures...and we didn't even know what "wind chill" was in the 60's and 70's!

I have a nasty case of Chronic Lyme and a couple other issues and get hot very quickly. Being in the FL heat is a challenge, but being in an enclosed space in the heat may be quite serious in my case and for other medical conditions and of course, small kids and the elderly. I can't imagine walking down a ladder (I'm two months out waiting for a knee replacement). I'm sorry for the people that had to endure this. We'll be there in two weeks and won't be using the Skyliner - ever.

So we called guest relations... they were very nice. We gave our account of the situation and were given a number to call directly for the whole gondola incident. We then spoke to a lovely lady who typed and recorded everything. She said Disney will be contacting us within 72 hours. I wish we could just meet someone there in person and show them what happened.

And again we don’t want anything..
We just want them to fix it and make it safe for everyone,
and stop saying it was empty.

Ok sooo... this has now sucked up my entire Sunday. We’re getting ourselves together and driving over.

Best of luck to y'all. If I were you, even though you don't want anything from them, I would take it if they offer you something.

Let me repeat this in all caps: DISNEY HAS CAMERAS EVERYWHERE. Okay, that being said putting out official comments that the cabins were empty and not aayingy something like, " we are reviewing the incident and will tell you more when we know what happened." Would have been a much safer PR statement. People don't like being lied to and it really tarnishes Disney's good reputation to lie about a safety incident.

Disney does have cameras everywhere, but not everywhere. The station has to have cameras but my question is was there one pointing in that direction?

You should probably avoid the monorail as well. We rode it once going from Epcot to the MK last week and the AC was not functioning correctly. The smell was nauseating and there was little to no ventilation on it that I could tell. Those things break down constantly and you're up in the air with those too- not a quick exit at all.
