65 here and totally enjoyed my nostalgia trip to DL/CA this past Jan (solo); go to WDW now as an NC resident. Last year (age 64) finally bought some DVC points. Earlier this evening was talking with DD (age 40) about possibly going next summer, and she was wondering about our Disney addiction, because we've had some miserable days there with heat, crowds, etc. but always love going back. It's been really hot here in western NC this year and I don't have whole house AC, because I've never needed it before, so I'm figuring I can take a summer break in LBV/WDW and at least have AC next year!
Part of the reason I bought the DVC points was that I can go there and just enjoy being in the resort and use the busses if I can't keep up with DD and DGS at the parks as I get older and slower. I used to be the one with the stamina, but not so much any more, altho I do still enjoy going to Disney. DD was asking why since it seems kind of unquantifiable (there are lots of negatives -- high cost, not great food, weather issues, crowds and bad behavior, etc.) -- I think it's the imagination and creativity, as well as it being in our blood for so long. I never cease to be impressed by the creativity and intelligence of the parks' scenery and attractions (but we're not really thrill ride people, altho DGS is starting to be). And, so far, it still seems like a safe place to go, always important (given the huge number of visitors, bad incidents still seem to be really rare). And it's still a lot cleaner than some other amusement places (altho maybe a little slippage due to the economic shifts that are affecting us all).
I could list even more reasons not to be a Disney park fan, but I will always be one (and, yes, I know, my ashes can't be scattered there, darn!).
