Disney Sea - HELP!!!

If I may ask, how long will you be in Japan and how much time will you be spending on the rails?

We will be in Japan for 11 days (counting the days we arrive and leave).
We'll be seeing Tokyo for the first 2-3 days, then probably go to Kamakura or Nikko, then 3 days at TDL, a day to ??? I don't have anything planned, 2 days in Kyoto...then return to Tokyo for our flight out.

All I can say is that I've never had a problem using a Visa or AMEX card at an ATM in Japan. But do be safe and bring more than one card in case you do have trouble with your primary!

Thanks! Will do!

If you pay cash, yes. The tickets to Kyoto will need to be done in cash if you buy them at Narita, but the ticket office at the various stations do take credit. I would not buy TDL tickets until you get to the park; there's just no need. They take credit at the ticket window at TDL, and you can obtain English literature at Guest Relations just past the ticket window.

I wanted to buy the TDL tickets before we got to the parks to avoid the line up at the ticket windows. We'll be arriving at TDL ASAP that morning to drop our bags off at the Sheraton and then go to the parks. I figured if I got our tickets at the Disney Store, I could cross that off.

Yes, that's a bit of travel there...Suica card seems like a good move.

I see. We did have about a 10 minute wait to get to the ticket window when we arrived, then another 5-10 minutes at Guest Relations to get English maps, etc. If you do go the DS route, the good news is that they accept all major cards. I shopped at the one in Yokohama and had no problem at all.

The Tokyo Disney Resort web site says that you can buy tickets for TDL and TDS at any of the official hotels if you are a guest (these are not the Disney hotels, but the 6 other hotels on property, including the Sheraton). Correct.

Walt's Assistant and Briarmom - the Japan Rail East web site says that the JR Travel Service Center located in both terminals at Narita will sell train tickets and that they "accept most major credit cards".

Can anyone else confirm if they do accept foreign cards, or if it's cash only for foreigners? Sorry, W.A., for questioning your advice, I just want to make sure that I know for sure as we, too, need to buy some tickets and want to use our credit card and not cash!

I wanted to throw another option out to you as well. At the Tokyo Disney Resort Welcome Center, on the street level, there is the TDR Official Resort Hotels Counter. It's open 8am-4pm. They offer complimentary baggage delivery service to the Sheraton. So, you can drop your bags here in the morning, and then head straight in to the parks, and your bags will be at the hotel when you get there later in the day/evening.

Sorry! I meant DOLLARS! At least 20,000 yen a day, probably more. Some meals ran us 10,000 Yen.

We were not able to get cash from most ATMs. We had to go to the Post Office. We only have one card that can give us cash. We did use multiple credit cards at other locations.

We stayed at a "good neighbor' hotel listed on the Disney sight. We bought our DisneyLand tickets at the hotel. They gave us a voucher and we gave it to the ticket sales window at Disney and they gave us our "2 day passports." They also gave us English maps, at the same window. The whole process took a couple of minutes. There were no lines to get in when we arrived at 10:30 so everything went quickly.

I believe if you buy the Suica cards for your children they will be charged as adults. It is so much easier, but does end up costing double.

OT- One place we went in Tokyo that we loved was the National museum of emerging science and innovation. We spent hours there! Great for kids, and probably even adults. We got to see Asimo, the robot dude. The show was in Japanese, but we still really enjoyed it. It was about 15 min. long and he showed us all of his tricks. We got to control our own simulation type ride vehicle, etc. Lots of hands on stuff. Also in the same area...Toyota MegaWeb. Its a car show room with loads of hands on exhibits for kids and adults. We stayed in that area and spent a whole day there.

LeeLee, thanks. Perhaps this is new. I've been to Japan a half dozen times, most recently this past November, and JR was strictly "cash only" at Narita. You could, however, use credit to buy a bus ticket at the counter next door (obviously not JR). I hope that JR has changed their policy...cash only is a pain.

I need copious amounts of booze.:lmao:

Yeah, but then we get a voucher and we'll still have to turn that in wherever the 'voucher turn in' place is.
I'm so worried about being in line an hour early not to mention getting there from the military hotel, I don't want to take up anymore time...thanks for the option though, in case we don't get to the Disney Store.

Thanks for the heads up.

I think I'll have to print this thread before I go.

Pass me the bottle if there's any left!!! We're both still fighting off colds, and trying to get everything done at the last minute (and we both work full time), so I either need that or some good put-me-to-sleep cold medicine so I can rest my brain tonight!!! Too much thinking!!

Thanks, walt's assistant. I'm certain you encountered "cash only" when you went, I just wanted to find out if things had changed. I'm hoping that site is correct and they do take CCs, but I plan to be prepared if it still is cash only. Thanks for the info, you've been very helpful!!!

Thanks for the info, Katy! We've got a half day allocated for the Miraikan and the surrounding area. We're especially looking forward to seeing Asimo. We're two adult geeks, so the museum is a must-see for us. We wish we could spend the whole day in Odaiba, but other sights must be seen!

The day we were there his show was at 11 and 2, and perhaps again later, but I didn't look since we saw him at 2. He only comes out for his show, which is in the middle of the room so everyone can see.

I suggest you post your question on tripadvisor forums. People reply quickly. Someone may have been there recently and know for sure.

Cool! We plan to get there when it opens (I think at 10am), so we'll be able to see the first show. YAY!
