Disney Rookies Do 10 Days on the Dining Plan *Update- 9/27*

DS4 was able to get a cup of the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup as an appetizer with his meal. Thankfully, he didn't like it. DH and I swooped in to save the day and sacrificed ourselves to finish this bowl of deliciousness. Now, I liked it, but didn't love it. I'm typically not a real fan of beer and cheddar soup anyway. Now DH on the other hand couldn't get enough of this soup with the pretzel bread. He stole DS2's last piece of the pretzel bread to wipe the bowl clean. DH orders beer and cheddar soup very often from a local restaurant here that is very good. He said this soup isn't even in the same ballpark as Le Cellier's soup. I knew right from the start that DH was going to truly enjoy this meal. I also really loved the pretzel bread. The chewy outside with the soft center and just the right amount of salt on top. YUM! As for the other bread in the basket... eh.

Ooooh, you know usually when I read reviews I'm always a little leary of whether or not the reviewers opinions would be anything like mine or like those of DH or even our kids. We are all foodies. We all cook and we even eat out a lot less than most people we know because it is just so disappointing to pay for a meal out only to find the restaurant loud and the food so far less than stellar as what so many restaurants serve. I'm such a snob about quality food and the fact that so many restaurants in my area don't serve it, that I'm always hoping to convince more people that they really can cook at home if they just give themselves permission to make a few mistakes along the way. I just know the truth is that most people could do it, except for the intimidation factor. I think I want to start teaching cooking. (home-style cooking and good sense nutrition for moms, I'm not a chef);)

Anywho... I make a great beer cheese and sausage soup and since I gave up gluten my DH even made it for me once last winter and the gluten free version was also just awesome. So now that I've read your review I'm really excited to try this one and compare. :cloud9:

I can honestly say, when we did get to go to WDW in 2006 my family did not get a bad meal anywhere and we are hoping to start planning another magical vacation soon! :yay:

This was probably the meal I was most excited about before we left. Le Cellier seems to be the place (non-signature) that people rave about the most and I was able to score a lunch ADR at 180 days out! It really did live up to all of my expectations.

Pretzel Bread and... some other bread

Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes

This was my steak. I was as giddy as a schoolgirl when I ordered my steak and was jumping out of my seat when it finally made its way to the table. Holy goodness, that was honestly the best steak I've ever eaten. You could just about cut it with a fork it was so tender. I've heard people complain about Le Cellier being salty and I definitely didn't think so. I very rarely ever use any salt at home since both of my parents have high blood pressure, so I was worried about the salt factor. Really, there was nothing to worry about. Now, if you aren't a fan of mushrooms then this steak isn't for you. As for me, I *pink puffy heart* them. So this was perfect for me. I decided to get mashed potatoes with my steak instead of the risotto and I'm very glad I did. I tried DH's risotto and I just don't like the consistency. The flavor was awesome though. I'm a big lover of mashed potatoes and these Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes were perfection for a potato lover. All around Yum! Yum! YUM!

Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon

This was DH's steak. I honestly giggled throughout the meal as I watched him eat this steak. He was in pure ecstasy with interesting sounds and all. To say the least, he definitely enjoyed it to the fullest. His words, "I don't know if there are words to describe it."

Chocolate Alcoholic Cake with Raspberry Something-or-Other

I looked at three different online menus and can't find this particular cake. We can't remember what its called, sorry. DH ordered this and I'm very sad that I didn't. At least he let me have a bite. It was very good and rich.

I ordered the Maple Creme Brulee and didn't get a picture of it. I had a bite of it before I remembered that I wanted to take a photo. Oops! I was just too excited. I was very full and getting annoyed of my naughty children, so I didn't enjoy this as much as I was hoping to. I only had 4 or 5 bites. I think they torched the top a little bit too much, I could taste a gassy flavor on top. The creamy underneath was very good though.

Atmosphere- As the name states clearly, its supposed to be a cellar. It's dark, but feels very romantic. I wish my DH and I could dine here without our very overwhelmed toddlers on our second day in WDW. Sadly, I feel that their behavior just overshadowed my meal so much. I loved the details in the decorations. The lighting was really cool and I loved the rustic feel.

Service- We had a young gentleman as our server. He was awesome! I wish I could remember his name, but alas... I'm too lazy to dig out our receipts to look. He was very good with my boys, joked around with us, and we never had to ask for a refill on our drinks.

Overall, we cannot wait to go back to Le Cellier! :thumbsup2

I so wish I would have made this adr for when we go! that food looks sooo yummy!!

Hi
Great reviews and your boys are really cute!! Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to read more!

Great reviews so far, looking forward to the rest and I love the matching t shirts. We tried to get some for our upcoming trip but had difficulty finding anyone who would ship to the UK.

On our Animal Kingdom day I had planned to eat at Flame Tree Barbeque. I've heard a lot of good reviews of it, plus I really love barbeque type food. Well, that all changed when we were in Dinoland. We were all absolutely starving and wanted air conditioning RIGHT NOW. Restaurantosaurus was right there and very convenient.

The four of us shared these two meals with desserts and actually had food left over. The portions were large!

Shrimp Po Boy served with French Fries

This was yummy! DH and I both raved about the sauce on top. There were plenty of shrimp, so many that quite a few fell off. The lettuce was not very good though. I wish there had been more and it would have been a lot better if it had actually been crunchy. I don't really remember the bread all that well, but it was obviously good enough since I would love to eat this again!

Chicken Breast Nuggets served with French Fries

These chicken nuggets were good! We had them with BBQ sauce. I really liked that they weren't formed & pressed, they were chunks of white meat chicken that were breaded. They were crunchy. They were better than the nuggets on the buffets we had.

Weird! I don't know why these are showing up in reverse order.... oh well...

Thank you! I actually made these shirts for us. If you want to pay for the shipping, I'll ship them to the UK! :rotfl:

Hey Rafiki! :welcome: Yes, Le Cellier was amazing! Hopefully you can try it out next time.

:welcome: Yes, you should try this soup and compare it to yours. DH loved it!

That omelette sounds amazing!

:welcome: It sure was!

Really looking forward to reading along with the rest of your reviews
You are doing a great job :)

L-Harper...I was wondering if you remember the brand of sauces currently used at the QS locations for your chicken nuggets. A few years ago many locations were using "Ken's" honey mustard, etc. Then, they made a terrible switch to Heinz (yuck). I was hoping against hope that maybe they would have switched back. Did you notice? I, too, love the chicken tenders at Restaurantosaurus.

I'm sorry, I really don't remember.

Thanks for sharing your reviews! I'm loving your pictures and can't wait to get there!

I don't have any photos of quality from inside Coral Reef. It is pretty dark in there. I don't know how the photos from Le Cellier turned out so well and the Coral Reef ones didn't. Oh well, you'll all just have to survive.

Food

Pan-seared Sustainable Seasonal Catch (on Roasted Mushroom Risotto with Bay Scallops, Celery Root Nage, and Parsley-Truffle Oil) - This is the meal that DH ordered for dinner. All I can remember is him saying, "There's another bone." If it had been my meal, it would have gone directly back after the second bone. One I could let slide, but many? Absolutely not! DH says, "Other than the bones it had really good flavor." DH ate nearly everything on his plate.

Lobster Ravioli (with Rock Shrimp, fresh Tarragon, and Lobster Cream) - I don't know why I didn't just order the steak. People have given good reviews about the steak and not go great reviews about the ravioli. Yeah, everyone else is right. The ravioli was just ok. If we ever returned I'd just order the steak.

The Chocolate Wave (served with Raspberry Gelato) - DH says, "It was really good. I liked the sharp flavor of the raspberry gelato. It was right up there with the dessert from 'Ohana." I didn't even taste this dessert because I was enjoying my own.

Baileys and Jack Daniel’s Mousse (with a Caramel Crisp) - This dessert really was very good. The caramel crisp on top was such a fun addition. There were also these little balls of chocolate and what tasted like coffee sprinkled on the top that was a perfect addition to the mousse. It gave a little crunch that the mousse needed.

Atmosphere- Of course, the atmosphere here is awesome. That was the sole reason we went. We weren't seated right at the tank, but right in front in the first row of booths. I loved our seat. We were far enough away to see the whole tank very clearly, but close enough we could see good details on the fish and turtle. The turtle decided to take a nap right up front during our meal. The boys sure got a kick out of that.

Service- She was nice, but kind of short and snippy. There isn't anything about her that stands out. Granted, our boys weren't exactly being little angels this evening, so that could have overshadowed my memory.

Would we return? No, there are many other restaurants in Epcot that we'd like to try and that have to have better quality food than Coral Reef. The atmosphere here doesn't make up for enough to cover the sub-par food. Sadly.

Starring Rolls was the counter service I was most excited for. I had been dreaming of the Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake for a very long time. I was literally skipping through Hollywood Studios when it was time for lunch. I knew that there was only a turkey sandwich standing between me and that plate of goodness.

Two Turkey Focaccia Sandwiches, Two Cokes, Two Bags of Chips, Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake

Turkey Focaccia

Now this is a sandwich! It's a giant portion and easily sharable if you are also going to share a cupcake for dessert. I hadn't read even one review about this sandwich so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was very very good. The turkey was very good, the lettuce was crisp, there were some veggies on the bottom that had very good flavor, and there was a layer of what we think was mozzarella cheese on the bottom. The focaccia bread was also a great addition to the sandwich. I'm glad they didn't use a plain ole bread. Very good!

100_5143.jpg

Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake

Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake- Oh boy! This cupcake lived up to everything I imagined it would be and more. I just couldn't stop eating it. Yes, it was very rich and sweet, but that is what a cupcake is supposed to be!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake- This cupcake just wasn't spectacular. The peanut butter was way overwhelming. There was filling inside and it was very thick, thicker than peanut butter, and it just stuck the the roof of our mouths. We wouldn't order this cupcake again.

Atmosphere- Inside the cafe is really small. There were quite a few people inside. We also brought our stroller in and there was just no room. We didn't realize this before or one of us would have just waited outside with the boys. They do not have any indoor seating. There are quite a few tables outside in the shade and some tables with umbrellas. If you really need to get out of the heat then this place isn't for you. If you want an awesome sandwich and an even better cupcake then heck yeah!

Would we eat here again? Yes! I would walk a mile out of my way just to get another of the red velvet cupcakes. I wish there were seating inside because it was scorching outside that day and we would have loved a break inside.

Great start ! That turkey sandwich at Starring Rolls looks amazing! We go there for breakfast every year but have never tried lunch- thinking this year that will have to change. We usually eat Yak and Yeti counter service at AK but that shrimp po' boy looks yummy.

Looking forward to more reviews - especially o'hana - we are eating there 2 weeks from today ( yeah I can finally say that) and the ones for MSB, Goofy's, and Karmell Kuche.

The pretzel bread look so delicious. I can't wait to dine there now. Also looking great is that turkey sandwich. I booked 50's Prime Time but almost thinking of cancelling and going to Starring Rolls for one of those.

Great reviews so far! :thumbsup2

Thank you! I'm trying to get them done as quickly as I can.

We really did have some very good food in Disney!

Not only is Starring Rolls super yummy, its also much cheaper! :lmao:

Really enjoying your reviews and pictures! I'm glad to see the breakfast pictures at POP since that's probably where most of our breakfasts will be. We're staying there for the first time in December. Did you like the resort?
