Disney Rookies Do 10 Days on the Dining Plan *Update- 9/27*

*This will be a photo free post. I don't know why I didn't take my camera out even once here. :headache:

I was very excited to try out Raglan Road. It's not a popular restaurant, but for the most part the reviews I had heard were raving. This restaurant is an Irish pub in Downtown Disney. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with our dinner here. We arrived nearly an hour early, thankfully they got us right in without any wait. We had dinner early, around 5:00 or so. There was barely anyone there. I think our experience would have been better if the dancer would have been performing.

Food:

We started out with the Scallop Forest - George Bank scallops in a golden batter served with a citrus lime dipping sauce and sweet chili jam. I really love scallops, so this was an obvious choice. The presentation of this is awesome. Six very large battered scallops come out on top of forks that are standing up in the heavy block. These were cooked very well and were so juicy that it was running down the forks and all over our hands while we were eating them. The scallops by themselves were bland, which surprised me. The sauces were each good in their own rights, not amazing.

I ordered the It's Not Bleedin' Chowder! - Freshest cuts of seafood and potatoes in a white wine infused cream broth. This was very good, but also very rich. After having the scallops to start with and then this for my entree, I had too much seafood. The flavors were great and there was a very good portion of different kinds of seafood that were all cooked very well. If I had to I would order this again, but I'd rather try other things from the menu.

DH had the Salmon of Knowledge - Baked Atlantic salmon fillet topped with smoked salmon, served with a maple glaze. He isn't home to give his review at the moment so I'll have to edit this later. From my perspective he liked it because he finished his plate. I don't think it was anything spectacular because he didn't rave about it afterwards.

For dessert I ordered the Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding. I had read from a few people that this was the best bread pudding on property, so I had to try it knowing that I was also going to have bread pudding at 'Ohana. I was excited to compare the two. Well, folks... 'Ohana's bread pudding is BY FAR the winner in my book! I don't think Raglan Road's isn't even in the same ball park. Sadly, I only had about 3 bites before I decided that I just really didn't like it much. It was too mushy. The sauces that I was able to poor on top were very good though. I could have just drank those. This dessert could have done much better with some vanilla ice cream.

DH had the Dundon's Delight - Raspberry pavlova with vanilla pod ice cream and raspberry sauce. (Pavlova is a meringue with a crisp crust and soft, light inner.) I sampled this and let me tell you, this is the most interesting dessert I've ever had. It's worth ordering it just to experience it. It was good and had awesome flavors, but the texture of the pavlova was just too different for me. DH was giggling at my facial expressions as I ate it. The ice cream was very good as was the raspberry sauce. I would order this again for the experience of it.

Atmosphere- I wished we would have been able to go later so there would have been entertainment. That would have totally transformed the atmosphere and would have made the experience amazing. Since we went so early it was just a restaurant. The decor was nice, it was an Irish pub.

Service- We had average service. She was very nice and was prompt with everything but our bill. I felt we waited too long for it, especially when our kids were starting to melt down.

Would we go here again? If this were a restaurant here at home, we'd definitely return. Since its in WDW I would like to try new restaurants before I'd go back here. It was just average... good, but not great.

I never understood the love for Raglan Road's bread pudding either...when we had it the flavor was just not there and it was sooo dry, lots of dry bread crammed in a coffee mug and there was no room to pour the sauces or it would have made one huge mess

Yes, I could only poor a tiny bit on at a time and a lot of it poured down the mug and onto the plate. Have you had the bread pudding from 'Ohana? If so, what did you think about that? I honestly thought it was nearly the best dessert I've ever had in my entire life. I absolutely LOVED it! :lovestruc

We had lunch at Sunshine Seasons twice, but I only took photos from one of the meals.

Chicken Caesar Salad, Strawberry Shortcake, and a Coke (extra dressing on the side)

Chicken Caesar Salad

This was a giant salad with a lot of chicken. I'm really glad I got some dressing on the side because the chicken was kind of dry without it. The flavors were very good and the lettuce was crunchy. As you can see, there was plenty of dressing on the lettuce though. Maybe too much? I think they should have poured the dressing on top of the entire salad instead of just putting too much dressing on the lettuce.

Strawberry Shortcake

This was really good. The cake was moist, the creme was sweet and the strawberries were fresh.

I had the Spicy Cashew Chicken on another day. I would not order this again. It had far too much sauce and it had a strange taste to it. I can't describe it though.

Would we eat here again? Overall, I would rather find a counter service restaurant in World Showcase to try. I did like that the ingredients were so fresh, but I just was underwhelmed with the ordinary food. For me, part of the experience of WDW is to try new and exciting food. It's nice that there is air conditioning here though. That's a huge plus!

 I just came across your TR today and started to read, only read your review of Chef Mickey's so far but I have to say I was very surprised. Last time I was at CM was in the '90's and we enjoyed it, it is one of the hardest if not the hardest dinner reservations to get, or maybe I am just having awful luck :rotfl: So I thoguht wow CM must still be a good dinner buffet. Only reason I booked it actually is because we will be staying at CR and I thought it would be a good option for the day we arrive now I am wondering maybe not so much.

The picture of your family is not all that bad, sorry to read you forgot the camera in the room the first day.

Oh yes I have and I love it! I have read that you can order it at Kona too...not on the menu but if you ask they will serve it to you

The bread pudding with carmelized bananas and rum raisin ice cream at Boatwrights at the POR is to die for as well...almost better than Ohana

:welcome: If you are going to Chef Mickey's for the characters, then this is a great place to interact with the characters. If you're going for the food, don't. Yes, it may be convenient for you, but there are other resorts on the monorail loop that have better options. Good luck in your decision!

Great reviews.

I would love to eat at Le Cellier but would be afraid my kids would be a nuisance. I don't think I will try it until my oldest is old enough to babysit. I know that feeling of not enjoying the food because of the kiddos. But that steak looks so darn good.

I am a little afraid of the tie died cheesecake :scared1:

I love your starring rolls review! When we go back it is a must do for us now!

:I'm subbing, L-Harper, I've been reading along but I haven't spoken up yet! I LOVE the pics of LeCellier! Starring Rolls WAS fabulous, wasn't it? That red velvet cupcake was easily the most fantastic dessert I ate while we were there!

Harper!

Just wanted to say I have read all of your reviews. Sounds like you had a great time. You are much fussier than I am when it comes to food haha

Glad you're already planning a second trip. I've been working on my next one, and then a big one to Disneyland in California. Super excited!!!

Love your reviews!!!

Those matching Mickey T-shirts are so cute! How did you make them?
And I love your DH's Dopey shirt. Did you buy that on property?

After talking it over with DH we decided to go to Cali Grill instead our first night instead of Chef Mickey's, thanks for the input :thumbsup2
