Disney Rewards Points?

My husband just called me from work to tell me a coworker's wife has $460.00 Disney Rewards points on her Disney Visa that she does not want and wants to sell for $400.00. He wanted to know if I was interested. I told him I didn't think she could do that because when she transferred them to a Disney Rewards card, the Rewards card could only be in her name, but then I looked at a Rewards card I have and realized my name is not actually on it, only a number (not my Disney Visa number) and the expiration date of 12/12. Could she transfer the points to a Rewards card and then sell it, then would that person be able to use it? Would you do it for a free $60? (I think he said $463.00 actually, so $63.00 free. lol)

Yes. You will have no trouble using it, or if you'd rather, she could buy a Disney gift card with her rewards card and give him that.

I did this last year with a friend of mine. She had Disney Visa points, and her only DS decided that he hated Disney. So, she sold them to me at a discount. Win, win, I say!

Yes, i would take that deal -- assuming that I was actually going to be there and able to spend the $463 before the card expired.

I don't know if a Disney Rewards card is technically transferrable or not, but Disney Gift Cards can be sold. I'd have her buy Disney Gift cards, or if she didn't want to do that, I would buy the rewards card from her and then buy my own gift cards.

I know you go a lot, aubriee, so no worries about the rewards card expiring before you could use it. But Disney Gift Cards never expire.

The only negative I can see is if she is trying to scam you, she could report the Rewards card lost and have the dollars on it canceled. I suppose she could do the same with gift cards, though, so it depends how well your DH knows the coworker.

I was curious about transferring Rewards points, so I checked the terms and conditions:

5. The Reward Dollars accrued and posted to your Card Account monthly billing statement, and the Redemption Cards issued under the Program, are not the property of the Cardmember, and cannot be bought, sold, encumbered, transferred, assigned or extended in any manner whatsoever (including upon death, as part of a domestic relations matter or otherwise by operation of law). Any Reward Dollars accrued and/or posted to your Card Account, and any balance of Reward Dollars on your Redemption Cards, shall be permanently forfeited upon the Cardmember’s death.

I haven't ever been asked for ID when using a rewards card, so you'd probably be fine, but to be technically correct, you should probably buy Disney gift cards from her instead of rewards dollars. I think Walgreens has Disney cards that you can put any amount on.

That's what I was afraid of. I don't really know her, but my husband works with and is good friends with her husband. I don't think she'd try to scam me. Her husband knows I go alot and she just had him ask my husband if I might be interested as she is not planning a Disney trip anytime soon and would rather have the money. I do go alot and in fact, I'm leaving this Saturday (May 5th) for a week down there. That'd be too soon for her to order a Rewards Card of course. She'd have to order the Rewards card, activate it, then put her points on it, then order a gift card. Our Walgreens doesn't have Disney gift cards. We have to order them online through Disney. However, I am going back to WDW Sept 1st-8th and then again Oct 27th-Nov 4th, so would have plenty of time to use them before they expire. I believe the Disney Rewards always expire in Dec of the year they were ordered don't they? I was just concerned if she could sell her points to someone else and if that person would be allowed to use them.

Typically they expire in December of the year following the order. The card I ordered in February expires December 2013.

Duh! I think you are right. I ordered one for my trip last Nov/Dec and the expiration date is 12/12.

If she isn't going to use the rewards, why have the card? Get a card with cash rewards instead.
