Disney resorts rated #1 in customer satisfaction!

Buffalo junction is an example of What Imagineering really wanted to design. AV knows more, but they had an even more intricate plan for AK resorts with multi-tier pricing around a central location. It was nixed because managment was too simpleminded to understand the concept.

Fort Wilderness was already one of the most interesting and amenity rich areas of the resort. The idea of a linking mid/value hotel that would have truly unified the complex is mindbogglingly. And of course the water park was stil open back then...

WDW has done a great job with their hotels IMO. The values are values for a reason, the deluxes for their reason. There is a price for all who dare to enjoy WDW. I have been impressed by most of the hotels. Contemp isnt pretty IMO, but it is unique in its own right.

The service has been outstanding for us personally, barring just a couple of times that were minor issues. I for one am glad to see WDW at the top of its game as far as resorts go. And even prouder that DVC was voted at the top of timeshares. Course I knew that all along;)

Give me All Star Sports over any ol Holiday Inn anyday!

What in heaven's name does "staying at Disney" mean?
Staying at Disney means different things to different people.
I like staying at the values because I love watching the little ones. I enjoy seeing there eyes light up and the smiles on their faces when they see their favorite character come to life.

Sleeping in a store? Surrounded by merchandise and brand labels? How does one stay "at" a marketing enterprise?
:rotfl: :rotfl:

You must really, really hate the parks then. Surrounded by all those castles (I'd go to Europe),
No I love the parks.
The castle is Cinderella's Castle.
At Disnseyland the castle is Snow White's Castle....

all those rocket ships (Cape Kennedy is so much cheaper), those animals (I'd go to a zoo - those lions don't even talk like they do in the movies!).

Gee ,if you really want to go to Cape Kennedy and the zoo then feel free to go .

And how do you even set foot in a value resort.

I make a ressie and then I go there.
What's "Disney" about Broadway. I mean - it's a taxi and it's not even from Cars! How stupid is that!

I think it was you who suggested Disney should have a Broadway Theme at a value resort. I just stated it had already been done.
And the Sports All Star, Disney hasn't owned the Ducks and Angels for years so quick - rip those non-Disney resorts out!
I agree that should ripped out. Maybe they could put in a Nascar theme or a Cars theme there instead
Like I said - the "lifestyle brand" concept is very strong with some people. But normal adults really don't need to sleep on Mickey Mouse sheets with Pixar wallpaper to have a good time. Very few people have dreams of running naked through the World of Disney Store - they have normal dreams of the future or the past or of far away and exotic lands.
I no idea why you want to run naked through a Disney store.....
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
That is so funny. That must be your secret fantasy because normal people would have normal dreams and not even think someone would ever want to run naked through a Disney Store!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

The castle is Cinderella's Castle.
At Disnseyland the castle is Snow White's Castle....
Yep - it's all in the brand name isn't it.

Thank you for proving my point far better than I ever could.

I agree.

Snow White's Castle! I think I'm going to hyperventilate.

It's Sleeping Beauty Castle. It's not possessive. Same goes for Cinderella Castle at WDW.

Out of curiosity, since I see from your sig you have been to Disneyland. What do these words mean to you?

To all who come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land.

Those seem to fit in well with your idea of what "Disney" means. But what about these:

Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.

What do those words mean? Or these

Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America, with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.

What do you think Walt was getting at?

I stand corrected.
I guess Cinderella never owned the Castle.
Try explaining that to all the little girls that dream of winning a night in Suite in the castle at WDW.

Thats right, Prince Charming owns the castle which is why you never see him out having fun with guests, he's too busy working all day

Well, to be fair, she bought it at a discount from her father in law a couple of years ago. Then She lowered the quality of the food and doubled the price and made it impossible to get reservations.

That's neither here nor there. Mortgage jokes aside, do you have an answer to the question?

It's not Cindarella's Castle. It's Cindarella Castle. It's an important difference and fundimental to understanding why Disneyland and Walt Disney World became cultural icons. And understandfing that directly leads to why the Value resorts, whether you like them or not, aren't very Disney in thought and motivation.

YoHo, your argument would be more persuasive if you could spell Cinderella.

I won't go so far to purism as to worry about the apostrophe, but wasn't Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland known as Snow White Castle briefly due to the delays in releasing Sleeping Beauty?

(Also for some reason Aurora's father used to run the restaurant in Cinderella Castle).

At this point I'm just happy we don't have 'Stitch's Pirate Princess Castle' and the 'High School Muscial Royal Cafeteria Dining Hall'.

ssshhhhh! Give them enough time and they'd do it.

At the current rate, we'd be seeing Adventure/Frontierland turned into "Tortuga" and not just for the Pirate Party, Fantasyland turned into Princess Land, and Tomorrowland turned into Stitch land. Tomorrowland almost became 1/2 High School Musical land and it would have if it wasn't for MGM (aka modern Hollywood that no one likes) Studios

FInally pounded out a blog entry.

It's not about hotels, but I wrote it with this thread in mind. It's more about understanding what made Disney parks a cultural icon.

I must say I enjoyed reading your blog.
I agree with your analysis.

I especially like and agree with this paragraph if I may quote you.
-------------------------------------------------------
"This is what made Disneyland and Walt Disney World cultural icons. It all started with a mouse, but it isn’t about a mouse. It’s about the human race and our dreams and aspirations. Disney parks at their very best crystallize what the western (and probably most of the eastern) world hope and dream for, what we remember in our hearts and aspire to and presents it to us interactively."

--------------------------------------------------------
I too am concerned about the future of WDW. I agree that too many budget cuts are taking place.

When we took our youngest 2 to WDW in 1986 Bob was 5 and Cathy was 3.
Epcot has always been Bob's favorite park since the first day we went there.

But now a lot of the educational value that was a part of Epcot has been lost and I truly miss it.
The pre show at Living seas is gone. We loved the film that was at the Living Seas which helped demonstrate the importance of the oceans. Not only as a source food but also a source energy and minerals.

And don't get me started about why in the world they would put Ellen in Universe of Energy show and ride. What were they thinking? (JMHO)

Horizons is gone.
Replaced with Mission in Space.

World of Motion which taught us all about man's quest of how to get somewhere faster is replaced by a ride called Test Tract.
In all fairness Test Track is a pretty good ride and I do like the props in the queue and I think many learn about the tests and crash tests that cars are put through.

Wonders of life is closed... perhaps forever.
For me that is really sad. It has always had so much potential.

The original JJI is gone and has been replaced twice. The newest is still a poor remake.

At least the current version of JII has a little bit more about Figment and a remake of "one little spark."

The original was so much better.

My youngest two children were 3 and 5 years old the first time they rode the original JII and they learned so much about Imagination and how it works without even knowing they were learning. The original JJI helped guests learn about a "FIGMENT"---"a figment of Imagination of course."

I do know that when Kodak sponsored the original Figment Disney signed a contract that the ride would be redone before the year 2000.
But the 2ed JII was extremely poor. I felt, that ride had no "imagination" at all.

Anyway I seem to be straying a little from your Blog entry but I am trying to tell you I agree. Some changes are good a lot have been not so good and some even bad. I do applauded WDW for helping us dream, helping us open up our imaginations and yes for helping us learn. I agree it is not about a brand name.

Thanks for sharing your Blog.

but wasn't Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland known as Snow White Castle briefly due to the delays in releasing Sleeping Beauty?

No. The way I understand it to be, I could be wrong, Walt wanted it to be Snow White, but Sleeping Beauty was the film they were working on and he changed the name to Sleeping Beauty to tie in with the movie release.

But it was never actually, officially called Snow White, it was just a thought. The park opened with the castle being called Sleeping Beauty.
