Disney Removing Do Not Disturb Signs

I prefer to skip housekeeping some days basically because it is not necessary every day. I can understand the change, but I basically hope they come up with a system to make it easy for those that do not need daily service.

I wonder if I can catch a housekeeper in the morning before I leave if I can just ask them to look in and get their check out of the way if I do not want room service that day. That way there is less likely chance it interrupts me later in the day. I do not know how many times I have came back to my room on days I did need housekeeping and they were still in the room and I need to use the bathroom or wanted to eat my hot lunch with my feet up and my shoes off.

After my January trip, I was already planning at a break from WDW. If a trip happens in the next 12-18 months it would just be a short weekend trip so not anything to worry about. This change, which I see happen across more resorts though is another reason for me to look into that travel trailer I have put off buying for the last 3 years. I have wanted one for when I go places with few hotels I would stay in and for relaxing vacations. I just cannot really relax fully in hotel rooms, cruise ship rooms, or vacation homes no matter how luxurious they are as they are not "mine".

I don’t have a problem with this in theory but it seems the implementation is a problem.

I feel like that if they would just sit on something for a WEEK.....and run it by all sorts of CMs, and come at it from all directions (WHATEVER decision they make in ANY situation.....people have to talk about these things beforehand, right?!?!).....many of their changes would run more smoothly.....

It is very reasonable for an immunosuppressed person or family member of someone who is to be very concerned about not letting anything near a toothbrush. There are people who, for this reason, request a VIP cleaning prior to arrival, sanitize the room further upon arrival, and call to request no housekeeping to try to ensure their space stays as safe as possible.

If they were worried about wellness, they could use the door activity to see if people have been in and out. If you have an occupied room with no door activity for 24 hours, sure, a check is prudent to make sure someone isn't very sick

I really hope that doesn’t happen. And I’m currently staying at the hard rock and they have do not disturb so it’s not industry wide yet. If they are really concerned about what guests might be hiding they should scan luggage going into the hotel. I’d much rather have that than someone invading my personal space

You need to just understand this is how it works for the industry. Again how it is presented communicated and handled is what makes the difference.

That might be, but I’ve never experienced it before and I’m a world traveler. I always have my do not disturb sign up my entire stay. I suppose people could have gone in my room when I’m not there and I wouldn’t know, but no one has ever knocked on my door or entered while I was there and had that sign up.

I think cruises are different than hotel rooms, I usually always have our room cleaned there. But even on cruises they have do not disturb signs if you don’t want your room cleaned, which I’ve used on occasion

Do you think that for those of us who always use Housekeeping at WDW,the Housekeeping "visit" will serve as our daily inspection or will we have the Housekeeping "visit" PLUS a separate inspection?

If it is the former,MANY of us will see NO change to the way we've always vacationed at WDW.

I think the only people who are going to be annoyed by this are those who nap in the afternoon and used the DND sign to keep housekeeping from knocking.

I've got a question...

We've had times when one of us got sick while on vacation. In that instance, the sick adult or teenager will put up the DND sign and stay in bed for the day. In that instance, what should we expect? If someone knocks on the door, I'm assuming the sick person will need to get out of bed and let them in? If you have the door bolted with the swing arm and you don't respond when they knock, what do they do? Come back later?

I wonder what's involved with the room check. Is a simple peek in the room from the doorway enough; or are they coming all the way into the room, looking around the far side of the beds and in the closets?

If my DD was in bed sick...I certainly wouldn't feel good about someone coming all the way into the room and looking around. And, when I'm sick for the day I just want to be left alone to sleep, etc.

What is the big deal? Put up the security latch. Then nobody will be barging in your room. Sure they have "the tool" to thwart the block, but chances are that when they can't get the door open all the way, the occupant now will notice someone trying to gain entry (assuming they didn't hear the CM knocking the first time) and can answer the door. If you happen to be in the shower or for some reason don't notice the door banging against the security latch, by the time the CM goes through the rigamarole of getting the tool to undo the latch I'm pretty sure the shower will be over....assuming the person in the shower is the only person in the room.

It's not that big a deal. And we ALWAYS keep the DND on the door to keep housekeeping out. And we are DVC. So I don't have a problem with them walking through to size the joint up.

If those Housekeepers (you know the ones there is a shortage of and therefore they've offered no housekeeping option, just don't show up some days and do half-xxx jobs) ......... are now expected to do surveillance and intelligence gathering at the risk of having hostile guest interaction ............ they better up that bonus pay and hourly rate. If I were the union and this was going to be a thing .... I'd be stepping in.

The DND removal sign that Disney has implemented won't prevent something bad from happening. The better course of action to mitigate risks and to ensure the safety of the guests staying there starts with the cast members being aware of what is going on around them. Setting up security cameras on walk ways, hallways, or near elevators and having training personnel would also give a heads up of suspicious activity. These preventive steps would be more useful than random room checks.

i agree. What’s to say someone isn’t hiding stuff in their suitcases.....or are they going to shuffle through our suitcases?? Where does this stop?

The room inspector or Exec Hsk will be they eyes I would assume. If they can’t get in then security

Also folks the privacy latch.... we can get around that in 2 seconds. We don’t unless 911 type issue but we. Can get in. You be surprised at the 911 calls and/or booting of guests that you need to bypass the privacy lock

Considering that Disney can track you all the time with the MB technology, I would hope they can manage doing these checks when the rooms are empty most of the time.

The problem with the latch is you could lock your family out. Like if my husband takes the kids to the pool and I decide to grab a shower, I can't use the latch. The latch is only an option if you are all in there.
