Disney Removing Do Not Disturb Signs

Yeah, it's one thing to dislike the policy but it's another to claim that they will use this as a means to send pedophiles in to rooms, reasons to steal from guests, or access to enter rooms and harm women alone in their rooms. All of which have been mentioned somewhere or another. This policy may not be something you like but it's really a bit over the top to worry about criminals running rampant at Disney.
Well obviously DISNEY thinks criminals are running rampant there, since they are now going to daily inspect each room!!:confused3

They already treat all of us like criminals when we enter the parks every day, why not this too?

I called yesterday about this, we're heading down with our GSD soon and I wanted to find out if they are still respecting the Pluto door hangers. They are. Also it's just at the deluxe resorts now. They will be expanding to more resorts sometime in mid to late January per a duty manager.

Some have called it "security theater" and it MOST DEFINITELY is.

I think we can all agree that the Vegas murderer was about as worst case scenario as one could imagine. Disney's new room checks would have done zero to stop that event had MGM had the same policy. Housekeeping was in his room every day and never saw anything out of the ordinary, save a couple extra bags of luggage. He didn't break them out till that fateful afternoon just before the concert.

Per the duty manager I spoke to, they will NOT be opening any luggage or the in room safe. So, there goes the last 'if it keeps everyone safe' argument. It won't. Not one bit.

Which begs the question, whats the actual point of these room checks? Other than hassling guests, what do these checks actually accomplish?

Probably about 5 bucks off their liability insurance.

So for those of us who always use Housekeeping, there will be no effect on how we vacation-the "Housekeeping visit" will also serve as the "Security visit"?
It appears that way, although the details of how this will be implemented are unclear at this point. It would be ideal if they could count housekeeping as a time when Disney had accessed the room. We aim for daily housekeeping; however, sometimes by 3 PM, housekeeping has not been to our room yet. We usually take an afternoon break, at which point I put up our DND sign. I take it back down when we head out for dinner and/or more park time, but by then (unless we're staying club level), housekeeping has passed us by. In this case, I just dump the trash myself and call for extra of whatever we need. But now potentially someone could be knocking on my door at 4:30 PM when I'm showering after pool time (I can do without the housekeeping, but can housekeeping do without seeing my room?).

I am struggling to see how Disney sees this working out for them. They already have a housekeeping shortage, and as a result many rooms are not cleaned by a reasonable time (at least this is our experience). Now it appears either the already very busy housekeepers will be expected to knock and go into every room or Disney will need to hire a new 'security team' to check rooms, which also presents a problem. Disney already has a housekeeping and bus driver shortage, will they really be able to hire a new security team to check rooms?
