Disney / Pixar Not Afraid to Show Blood in 'Up'

You know, when I saw it, I thought it was just them being told they "can't have children", and I still think that was the intention...but now that I read this thread...

...right before this, they show a shot of painting the nursery...most of the time, wouldn't you think you would only paint the nursery once you are pregnant...not just when you decide you want to have children? By that logic, it implies that she had a miscarriage.

The two spots of blood are very minor..but I will say my DD, who just turned 6, got very upset during this movie, and my DW took her out in the hall during the climax of the movie. (MORE SPOILERS HERE) I think Kevin (the bird) being injured then captured REALLY upset her. She is more sensitive than most kids, and has actually become MORE sensitive to these movies in the last year or so.

In the scene right before they decorate the nursery they start seeing babies in the clouds. Then they decorate, then they talk to the doctor, and then they redecorate. So I took it to mean that they both decided they wanted to have a baby and decorated the nursery, and then found out they couldn't have children. Given that there was no dialogue, I think the nursery decorating scene was just a very clear way to show that they were ready to have a child. Although most people do wait to decorate a nursery until they are actually expecting, some people start when they first decide to have children. No one I know did, but on another forum this same debate came up and I was really surprised by the number of people who started getting their home ready for a baby before they were even pregnant.

We saw this movie a couple of weeks ago and I thought it ranked as one of the top 3 Pixar movies ever made.

I can see where people are upset about the blood; the decapitation scene was brutal. :scared1:

Well, I may have the answer to the miscarriage/unable to have children debate. Lou Romano was involved in the production artwork of UP and had this to say about the mural painted on the inside of the house: This image represents the aspirations of the main characters. After finding they cannot have children of their own, they make going to Paradise Falls in South America their life goal.

So, I guess that solves that question. Here is the link to the entire post that involves some gorgeous production artwork from UP.

We saw up when it premiered on the Disney Cruise at 12:01 AM. It was a great movie. My DD7 cried several times during the movie. A lot of it was very sad. She is very sensitive. She did not like for his things to be destroyed either. The middle of the night showing could also have affected us. Everything seems sadder when you are very sleepy.
