In the past, any leftover bottles of water, 1/ 2 pack of bags of chips, etc, I left for housekeeping. I’ve been looking at facebook and people posting I’m leavingin 6 hours, I’m leaving this and that by room1234. Ok chips, water, soda I understand. But people leave drink mugs, popcorn buckets, ponchos, glow sticks , shirts, toys, Etc. I’m flabbergasted at the value of items people leave behind. Plus strollers on occasion .

Am I the odd one? Or just the really cheap one?

You are not odd.
That is a VERY nice gesture, but I wouldn’t do it.
We’ve always rented a car and if we bought more than we can pack in suitcases, we go to a UPS store and ship it home. We don’t need to do this now, but when my girls were little we did - we never had room in suitcases for their souvenirs and the Christmas gifts I’d buy for them when we were there (I used to do a lot of Christmas shopping at WDW - my DH would watch the girls while I went shopping). Sometimes we even packed a suitcase in a suitcase to have somewhere to pack things - the good ol days - LOL!

Well, assuming they don't want to take the items home (for whatever reason), the option is either giving them away or throwing them away. I wouldn't want someone's used drink mugs or popcorn buckets, but unused ponchos, glow sticks, shirts, toys, and yes, even strollers (assuming my child was small enough), I could see using.

If Disney was smart, they'd come up with a central place in each resort for people to "donate" stuff. Then sort through it, and offer it (to either CMs or guests) at reduced prices. Heck, I wonder if a 3rd party would be allowed to do that.

I leave water bottles in the room.
We have given away the refillable popcorn buckets to people with kids.
Nothing else.

I save the ponchos, etc for the next trip. Maybe people ran out of space for their new purchases.

If they're cheap ponchos (which is what I'd bring), then yes, they'd get sacrificed for other souvenirs. It's also hard to believe, but some folks don't make multiple trips to Disney (gasp!). Or, even if they do, it may be years in between trips (the horror!), therefore strollers won't be needed again (assuming cheapy, umbrella type).

We leave unopened shelf stable food and drinks in the kitchen. I bring laundry pods now, but before they were invented guests would leave jugs of laundry detergent.

Next time we are at VB we will likely buy beach chairs at WM and then leave them in the parking garage for another family. I just look at these items as a sunk cost, part of the vacation and know someone else will benefit.

The last 2 times we went to a resort in Mexico people passed us very expensive pool floats as they were leaving. It made us feel so good that our kids then picked the next kids to pass the floats on to when we left. I always thought it would be cool to sign them or otherwise write a message on them to see how many families got to make memories with the floats.

Years back here on the boards, there was a mini fridge pass on at the resorts. Posters got together here if I recall and were having them held by bell services for the next dis people to arrive and pick up the fridge for their stay. If I recall, Disney finally put a stop to it, too much work for bell staff. And I think all resort rooms now have fridges.

If it isn't used/worn and there is still a tag on it, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back to the store to be sold again..

Unless there is a note "I am leaving this for you on purpose," it will probably go to lost & found and after 6 months, a year whatever, it probably gets donated or destroyed.

Used to pass on dining plan points( is that what they were called?) and unredeemed all you can drink cups on our last day. We traveled home by Amtrak or plane so no desire to load up on stuff.

We leave our unopened items when we are flying down. We leave them in the laundry room.

This is where I leave items too.

I pick up used books at book fairs and like to bring one on vacation. This way I don't care if something happens to it. I will leave my book behind too, hoping someone else will take it.
