Disney Nomads ... 3 Resorts in 8 Nights! ALL NEW 9/2!

You just inspired me to download The Hunger Games onto my Kindle. I know I'm the only person in North America who has no idea what it's about.

I hope you enjoy it! I didn't expect to at all but was hooked pretty quickly. Let me know what you think. Maybe we can turn this thread into a book club.

Did someone mention "cookies" somewhere? I'll read the TR soon, just... no time! no time!

What?

Hey!

Don't drag me away from the DIS!

Nooo! Help! Help! Hlpfffmmf....

Forget what happen here now. pkondz okay. He okay. No problem. Okay. Good.

Thanks so much Marita. I am so glad you joined! Especially since we both love like a good glass of wine with our trip reports. I know i sound desperate but you gotta grovel where you can, right?

Feel free to be as sarcastic as you like. Love the atmosphere in Nebo/Ponzi land. Hey, that should be a new expanion at wdw.

I'm afraid I dont have a witty bone in my body, so you'll probably just get some generic "great report" from me. but that means I enjoy it. And drink to it!

I came over to get the cookie recipe, but once I started reading I couldn't stop :goodvibes

Great job so far!

I hate it when you have a really good book on vacation. I've read/listened to the Hunger Games trilogy 3 times now. Just keeps getting better. I enjoyed the movie, too. Got my poor DH to go the midnight show with me. I'm so proud, his first midnight show. (wipes tear)

I'm enjoying your trippie. You have a funny way of telling your vacation story. You meet interesting people and give them odd names. This is going to be fun!:banana::banana:

The problem with BLT/CR is the bus service. You are so used to getting places pretty quick on the monorail that when you have to wait for the bus it can be painful, especially with the stops at the poly and GF

I love my IPad too. I never go anywhere without it. I travel for work so then it becomes my best friend.

Keep up the good work!!!

Awesome trippie so far. It definitely does feel special being at a Deluxe resort getting on a bus.

O kitty squared here and ready for reading.

My dream is to own DVC someday. Maybe in five years or so....

Hi Laura! I didn't know about the cookie thing - must be a Canadian tradition :goodvibes but I love to read recipes and TRs! I dont' cook much, but I love recipes! :lmao:

I know it's hard to get new readers, so I'll support you here!:thumbsup2

and BTW, I have one running too! ;)

So who brought the cookies? :confused3

Okay, all caught up! I love your writing! You do have a gift for the unusual and funny!:rotfl2:

Too funny about your lounge singer/bus driver! I need to go back and visit your DH's (which BTW I think could also be a take off from Lady and the Tramp - the Darlings :confused3) websites.

If you go to Vegas, he would probably love this place:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...3-Reviews-Casa_Di_Amore-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html

They pick you up in a limo, and the food is great! It has a really fun "rat pack" feel and they have a great lounge singer who does a mean Billy Joel!

I am really enjoying your report!

I agree....the dark, warm drink masquerading as coffee in WDW is awful. :crazy2: I learned last month that they sell DUNKIN DONUTS coffee in the Hess Station at the Car Care Center. If only I had known that on DAY 1 of my trip and not the LAST DAY..... :coffee: (And FYI: It's only an express DD, like they have at some airports. Just the coffee and some donuts available. No breakfast sandwiches or the like.)

I cannot believe I forgot to investigate the new train station bathroom. How did that even happen? :confused3 Oh, right....I didn't need to use the restroom at the time I was in the area.

:lmao: About the singing bus driver. :rotfl:

I am wondering how much time on your WDW trip you spent reading The Hunger Games! Of all books to download at WDW!

Wow! Marita thanks for sending everyone over! I'm so happy to get some comments!

Thanks for stopping by Ponzi! I feel like I've been visited by another celebrity. First Nebo and Smidgy and now you!

Cookie recipe coming up!

Those "great report" comments are most welcome!

Thanks! I want to see the movie but will probably wait for it on OnDemand. Most of my trips to the movies involve rated G flicks.

The problem with BLT/CR is the bus service. You are so used to getting places pretty quick on the monorail that when you have to wait for the bus it can be painful, especially with the stops at the poly and GF

Yes, the bus service was painful! We took it twice but walking to MK is the best!

LOL. I feel like my iPad is my best friend too sometimes. My husband laughs at me because sometimes I'll be sitting in front of my big Mac with my iPhone and iPad sitting on my lap. I could be shilling for Apple.

Awesome trippie so far. It definitely does feel special being at a Deluxe resort getting on a bus.

Thanks! Yes, breathing the rarified air at a deluxe bus stop is wonderful. The bus? Not so much.

O kitty squared here and ready for reading.

Highly recommend it. It doesn't feel like we're saving any money yet but it's nice knowing there's another trip around the corner.

If we ever get back to Vegas we will have to check it out. We actually do think about going back since we were married there. Do you have time for a quick story about it?

We were already living together when we got engaged so didn't feel a huge rush to tie the knot. Or should I say one of us didn't? Hmmm... Who could that be?

Anyway, we had a trip to California planned and our friends said that if we flew over to Vegas to get married they would join us. Well, Mr. Squid said, "Sure buddy. You fly to Vegas and we'll meet you there." Our friends call his bluff.

That doesn't sound very romantic, does it? Especially since I'm such a catch!

We were having trouble figuring out the whole wedding thing, did we want a big wedding, a reception, the hassle? This seemed to be a good alternative.

We ended up at the Silver Bells Wedding Chapel and it's probably as tacky as you think. As we were waiting for someone to come out we looked at their celebrity photos on the wall and saw Kato Caelin. Now this is only interesting because two nights before in Los Angeles we had actually met and talked to him at a bar. This was in 1996 so OJ was still fresh in everyone's minds and Kato was set to go on Larry King. Mr. Squid kept warning him not to let Larry kiss him because I guess not long before that Larry had kissed Brando or someone. So maybe it's a good sign that Kato is there too? At this point I'll take anything.

Finally someone comes out and he is just the crankiest man until Mr. Squid pulled out his Frank Sinatra credit card. All of a sudden they were best friends and Mr Crankypants was offering Elvis officiating free. Seems someone canceled on him and he was stewing in the back room with nothing to do. Well, I put my foot down on that one because this is already making enough of a mockery of a blessed event.

So, I walk down the aisle to a Frank Sinatra song (I'm sorry. I always have to ask my husband the name and he's sleeping) and the "minister" is ahead of me with a video camera trained on me. I kid you not. He had to set up the video before officiating.

We just unearthed the video Mr. Squid made recently and it's the worst wedding video on earth. It's mostly a tour of the tacky wedding chapel and Mr. Squid sounding nervous. No bride, no wedding. For some reason we were too cheap to buy the video the "minister" made. Ah youth...

After that we went to The Sands for our "cocktail hour" and then to The Flamingo's steak house for dinner. That place was fun because they had the tall old fashioned booths and someone came around to take your picture.

Well, that was a tangent.

Where is the car care center? Can you walk?

I'm a pretty fast reader and when you have books on your ipad and phone it's easy to read anywhere. So I read when I'm waiting for everyone to get up in the morning, when I'm blowdrying my hair because it's so boring, when I'm at the pool, on the plane. It really didn't feel like I was holed up reading but added together I was able to get through all three.

Here are two cookie recipes, plain and fancy.

First the plain. This one would be nice on a rainy Sunday like today in New Jersey.

“The Best” Oatmeal Cookies
Number of servings: 6 dozen

INGREDIENTS
3 eggs, well beaten
1 cup raisins
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
2 cups oatmeal
(substitute 1/2 cup wheat germ for more healthful cookies
3/4 cup chopped pecans

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine eggs, raisins and vanilla and let stand for one hour covered with plastic wrap. Cream together butter and sugars. Add flour, salt, cinnamon and soda to sugar mixture. Mix well. Blend in egg-raisin mixture, oatmeal, wheat germ and chopped nuts. Dough will be stiff. Drop by heaping teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet or roll into small balls and flatten slightly on cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Note: Secret is soaking raisins.

And the fancy. These are easy to make but look elegant. Bust these out with Grandma's teacups.

Pecan Crescents
Number of servings: 3 dozen

INGREDIENTS
1/2 lb. butter
1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1 cup chopped pecans
Confectioners’ sugar for dusting

INSTRUCTIONS
Cream butter. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pinch off pieces of dough and form into 2” long finger shaped pieces. Turn ends in slightly to form crescents. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 325º about half an hour. Sprinkle confectioners’ sugar generously on a large pan. Place warm crescents on sugar and sprinkle tops with additional sugar.

Well, I walked there from the Magic Kingdom during the Half Marathon....but that was when they had the road shut down, and it was a couple miles. The Car Care Center is that Hess that is near the racetrack. You go past it on a bus if you are going from the Polynesian towards any other park. It has a giant map of Florida painted on the side. Turns out there is also a Disney Transit gas station there also. I always wondered where they fueled up the buses!

I brought my Kindle to WDW with me, but didn't read a single page. :rotfl: The Hunger Games are quick reads....they hold attention and the reading level is about 5th or 6th grade.

Came over from ponz's report too and I'm glad I did. We seem to think alike but you have the nerve to type those thoughts out loud!

Enjoying the report, great job for a first timer :cheer2:

Have you tried Orbit Sweetmint?

That's a great wedding story!:rotfl: I love the offer from "Elvis" to officiate! We sort of eloped, too. I've never regretted not going through all the drama and stress - it's the marriage that is important, not the wedding!

I'll have to try the sweet mint. Maybe it will be my HG gum!

I bet your sort of eloping story is interesting. Do tell!
