How did I completely miss Kang as announced for the 3rd antman movie?!?!

I thought he just had a statue in Loki show

Well that one sheet the other day did say Cara Dune and Bo Katan show. Maybe they meant it to be the same show? Just not sure how Bo would fit into a Rangers of the New Republic show, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Favreau and Filoni. She could also be in Ahsoka.

She could also stay as a semi-regular in Mando proper, or sort of cross over all 3 shows

Is there a good spot to go to to watch all the trailers for all the new stuff announced yesterday or just youtube?

So with the actor/director blowback of the HBOMax decision, do we think that Disney is making the right call still doing the "Premier" access on Disney+?

I guess it gives people the option of seeing Raya on release day if they can't see it (like probably will be the case in places like NY or California) or if they don't want to see it (due to health concerns) but still make at least some money on it.

Since it won't be 'free' (like on HBOMax) I guess that should still make the actors/directors happier.

Raya is definitely the right move with a dual launch.

Health concerns will still be significant, considering vaccine rollout will still be fairly early on. Also currently the vaccine is only for adults, so the target audience will still have to wait for it.

And plenty of theaters will not be open yet, not just in NY and California, Regal doesn’t even plan on reopening until at least the end of March. They run roughly 10% of the theaters, and 18% of the screens in the US. That’s a large chunk of the market missing even if everything else is perfect.

One difference too is that Raya is co-directed by Don Hall, who works for Disney and is not a hired gun. He's not going to get rankled about it. I think DIsney has taken the right approach in not committing for every movie becuase we don't know how things will change. That said, while I don't think Warner's is wrong for leaning into streaming, it seems that they handled it poorly and didn't communicate with their partners and talent, hence the blowback. That was their biggest mistake.

It was great to see Slave 1 launche a seismic mine - I love that sound!

That is one of my favorite sounds in SW.

Speaking of sounds, I'll still never forget the bass when I was at Celebration III and we got the Revenge of the Sith sneak peak of the attack over Coruscant. Somehow the theater sound didn't come close to how it was in that giant auditorium for the preview.

Some thoughts on the latest Mando episode:

I'm starting to wonder if we'll see any deaths this season. Cara is slated for another series, and unless I'm much mistaken I suspect Bill Burr might show up in that one.

Fett won't be killed at this point.

I don't think Greef would be killed.

Pretty much leaves Fennec?

It's nice seeing Mando's transition and character growth. I think he's starting to pull away from the Mandalorians as his family. He just broke the seal on not showing his face to anyone else. I know he was grateful to be saved as a young kid and given a purpose, but I can't imagine there was much love growing up in a sect of permanently helmeted warriors. He's finally finding a different type of family, with Grogu at the center.

Also, I'm starting to think next season might be the last for Mando. The story will be repetitive if they just keep running from Moff Gideon. It also seems like Filoni and maybe Favreau have some more shows to run.

I think it's very possible that "The Mandalorian" may evolve into a different type of show, possibly with a new title, or it will just accede to the other shows but Din may be a player in those. It's all connected to it doesn't matter. I really like the idea of Mando, Ahsoka, and Rangers all building to one story together.

Figure if WW84 is estimated to make 25-30M opening weekend, Raya could be around 15-20M. But that’s with WW84 releasing during a spike. IF things with the virus hit a lull again in March, big IF, Raya could make more. But could also make less. The Croods 2 has done decent, considering the circumstances, so maybe there’s more of a market for family movies. 3 months is a long time in Covid times, so anything can happen between now and then.

I don’t think WB was wrong for making the decision they did. I think it was done out of panic and reaction seeing the subscriber numbers Disney had, and to these creators and actors it looks like WB is using their work and creativity to advertise the streaming service rather than work together on a solution. It sounds like WB kept a lot of people in the dark about their decision. Committing 12 months, 17 movies straight to streaming without seeing how things are in 5-6 months was premature. They could have put their Jan-Mar movies out day and date and said they’re prepared to do the same for the remainder of the films if circumstances aren’t good enough to just go to streaming

The wording from Kennedy suggested that characters from the 3 shows would cross over with the other shows, kind of like what we’ve already seen and then it culminates into a big event. Whether that’s a movie, or a interconnected 3 part episode between the shows like what DC does with the CW shows. I’m excited about the possibilities as long as it’s not Frog Lady crossing over.

big reveal is that it is actually Darth Frog Lady, the big bad of the entire thing!!!!

There is an old saying, follow the money. The Warner Brothers announcement was a big blow to the creative talent. Most of Hollywood talent have clauses in their contracts regarding box office receipts/ profits. So if you are totally cutting out theater releases you are effectively cutting pay. What is important from this point on, that ALL talent structures their contracts differently to take into account the change from theaters to streaming.

WB made a deal with Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot that “assumed” WW84 with make 1B world wide, and paid their bonuses based on that. Rumors are they are not making that type of deal with creators, actors and actresses for the other 17 films, they will receive their same bonus percentage based on what it makes theatrically under the new model, if they have that same or similar bonus structure in their contracts. The reason why Denis, and James Gunn are mad is that because their films are destined to fail financially under this structure, they’re not going to have the budget allocated to continue their story’s. That’s moreso from Denis than Gunn. But they’re all pissed that dropping everything on HBOMax is to advertise HBOMax rather than advertise the movie itself
