Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun!

I get that the genie is huge news, but there's a ton of other threads for discussing, queations etc. Can the genie stuff go to another thread?

It's getting hard to see the news. And I'm sure im not alone in not needing another thread covering the genie.

I've had a bit of a family medical issue going on these past few days and have not had time to read the G+ announcement in detail. Came here today during a break to try to get the quick scoop and now I'm royally confused. Genie Plus, Lightning Lane, two different things... can be purchased independently or together (or not)? So confused... I'm going to have to wait until I have a full day to try to figure this out. Ugh.

It's really not all that complicated, although Disney didn't help anything with their choice of terminology. There are 3 components of "Disney Genie".

Genie is the new add-on to MDE that will provide real time info on wait times and make suggestions to you as to what you should do next (based on criteria you establish). This is free to all guests.

Genie + is the name of the new fastpass system. This is essentially the MaxPass system that was in use at Disneyland. This will cost $15/day per person and you can purchase it for only the days you want to use it. This will give you access to the Lightning Lane (new name for the fastpass queue). You can hold only a single LL pass at a time, and can only book them the day of your visit. Genie + is available for all the existing fastpass attractions EXCEPT the top two attractions in each Park. Like FP+, availability will be limited.

Individual Paid Attractions: these are the top two rides in each park. There is still a stand by queue (or boarding group) for these, but if you want to use the Lightning Lane, you have to pay extra for that. Pricing has not been announced but it will depend on the day, the crowds, and the time. Anyone can purchase this option, whether you have purchased Genie + or not. You can purchase only 2 of these per day. Availability of slots for this option will be limited as well.

There are more details to come and the nuances are unknown at this time, but this is a brief summary as of now. Hope it helps some.

This from the Disney Food Blog is the best graphic I've seen, explaining the different features:

Been trying to come up with easy (DISBoard worthy) names for the various ways to use the Lightning Lane (LL).

So far I have:

LL+ = Genie + ($15/day option) rides

and

⚡L (Charged Lightning) = Individual Paid Attraction for the rides that will send a jolt through your wallet.

It will be interesting to see how many spots are allocated to the LL. This was the biggest issue with FP+. I was in the standby line for SM for over an hour. When I got close to where the FP+ line merged in, I watch and they pretty consistently were letting 8-10 FP+ riders for each standby rider.

One time pre-pandemic we were in fast pass line for jungle cruise, and a mom going to standby said “are there really that many people with money for fast passes?” And I explained they were free, asked if she was on property and showed her how to download the app and get passes. She looked very upset, and said it was their third day there and they had been doing standby because they didn’t know. Ive met people that made their first fast pass for 11:00 pm for Peter Pan and refused to change it because they were so excited to have it, even when I explained they are missing out on using it all day. I know many will say “it’s their problem because they should have researched” but many many people are going to show up not knowing what genie is, or how to use it. The CM are going to be doing tech support/teaching about this when they get bombarded with questions. Lots of people will be really mad, especially if it drops mid-trip. I’m hoping the rollout is when I am not there.
Edit: I’m just thinking of the people that see Jedi training, want to sign their kids up, and are told “nope that fills up at start of the day”, and the ROTR people that want to get a group or think they can do standby and are told “nope that fills up at start of day”, and now I’m picturing so many people finding out all the short lines/good rides are already booked up “at the start of the day”…..
I could be wrong but didn’t the park maps have information on fast pass

I've been seeing G, G+, LL, and $LL on threads. I also like the lightning bolt. It has a double meaning with the jolt to the wallet and the charge to your card.

ETA: Sorry - just saw request to move Genie conversation to another thread. Will do going forward! 🙂

They totally lost me with this Genie mess. I don't even have the energy to try and figure it out.
Wanted to clarify by lost me I mean this former AP go three times a year chick is done going to Disney.

Outrageous ticket prices + $60 per DAY for Genie+ for my family PLUS unknown added fees for 8 top attractions spread across the four parks and I am over it. Them spinning this as offering us something better at this hefty price tag when it used to be FREE is ... I don't know what to call it ... my brain can't conjure a word to adequately express how bad this is.

Add the lack of entertainment, meet and greets, the ludicrous pricing for the AH events and I am done.

I don't care and I will no longer be singing Disney praises to everyone and telling them how to plan a fabulous trip. I am no longer a cheerleader for this travesty.

He Who Must Not Be Named or linked to on these boards and one other are the only outlets calling this stupidity out.

I hope this and the SW hotels are massive epic fails.

Maybe then Disney will go back to doing what it used to do so well.

So do you have to get these at 7am or that’s just when they start being available?

Annnnnd the Dockside diner new menu is GROSS looking.
What is a 'Smoked fish dip'??

Oh - and lets hope DQ2!!
https://blogmickey.com/2021/08/imag...-upgrades-to-former-nba-experience-structure/

Actually I've had a smoked trout dip at a local restaurant before that was amazing. I also make a mean smoked salmon dip if I do say so myself :goodvibes . Now if you don't care for seafood, I get the disdain. But for seafood lovers like my family that sounds pretty darn good. Both of the sandwiches listed sounded really good as well. But food is subjective. They will never please everyone. Thankfully there are lots of other options.

Edited to add - but yes I agree with you on the excitement that they are already moving on from the ill fated NBA Experience. I'm still plugging for a new Adventurer's Club but DQ2 would be great as well.

I hope everything turns out OK. Watch the Disney video and read the FAQ (not from Disney) that someone posted a link to.

There is one here.

I hate to say for us that’s not too bad. DS (3) doesn’t ride many of the LL only rides & not having any FP for the others has been hard. And the old system was way too scheduled for us for him. And the tiered system was just annoying. So, IF, fastpasses are regularly available, then it will be a good change for us.

Just keep in mind they grow up quick. We started going when my oldest was 4. She’s 11 now and 3/4 of my kids LOVE the thrill rides and we’ll have to decide to either pay LL or wait.

Folks are speculating (and hoping) it will be like MaxPass and not screw you out of a whole day of passes because you got one late in the day. Or your Genie+ pass will basically just be another paid lightning pass for $15.

We’re already talking about having everyone up trying different queues - one person for ROTR virtual queue, one for LL$ ROTR and one for Genie+.
… Yep. This scheduling is stupid Disney. It’s like all three pieces were never coordinated.
Do the parks ever open at 7am?

That’s a good question if they ever do early morning magic again.
