Mobile ordering was amazing when barely anyone knew about it. I used it on our last trip pre covid and it was wonderful. We did Pinocchio's one night. The line was wrapped around. We ordered our food, picked it up with only 3 people waiting, got our food, ate and left and the same people were still in line. We also used it for Casey's and CHH. I'm sure we used it at other places but those were the ones I remember the most.

Now it sounds like a nightmare.

I don’t mind it now except if you want something small. I wanted a strawberry slushy last trip. There was absolutely no one in line & my app was acting up, but they refused to let me just walk up & buy it.

yep, too many people are making as much as they did before by just NOT working

Yeah, those greedy workers just living on easy street making MAYBE $600/wk if they managed to make max state unemployment and their state pays that much. They’re definitely rolling in the dough! 🙄

People keep talking here about this like people are just sitting on their couch making tons of money with the implication being “HOW DARE THEY not return to their low wage job to serve me my food or clean my room!” I bet you most of those people either already found work in an office or somewhere else where the pay and benefits are better, moved out of the area, and so on. Most of them aren’t just sitting around on their couches living the big life on a $300/wk unemployment boost.

Yikes, I'm getting worried about mobile ordering for our upcoming trip! I know mobile ordering is here to stay, but do you think Disney will ever go back to pre-covid times when you could just walk up and order, in addition to offering mobile ordering for those that want to still use it?

Can also agree mobile order is nice when it's not busy, but if it's lunch time or supper time it can take a VERY long time and most times our food was cold. We watched our food at Satuli and Pecos sit there for nearly 10 minutes BEFORE we were notified that "your order is ready". Pre mobile ordering you had 4 or 5 different "lines" to disperse the crowd and it seems to go much faster. You waited once and more often than not got your food as soon as it was plated. As oppose to waiting for a window to order, then waiting for it to be prepared, then waiting for them to signal to you that it's ready to pick up. It was more trouble than convenience in November.

Yup. So many people have moved onto new careers. Also no one wants to take into account the childcare issue. You can't work if your kids aren't in school or daycares are closed or summer camps are virtual. Let's not forget those that are/were afraid to give up their unemployment benefits to return to work to possibly be shutdown again and then have to reapply alllll over again and wait how many months for the benefits to restart.

Extra unemployment may be holding some people back but it's not the majority IMO.

Even if it is holding people back, is that bad? Are we comfortable forcing people to take poverty wages when its that or starve? Especially when their other options might be providing a stable home for their children or going to school to enter a more profitable field?

Exactly! People accept that the price of everything else went up with the pandemic, they need to accept the price for labor also went up.

Exactly. There’s a huge number of women who left the workforce because of childcare issues/no school, etc. Maybe once school is back to normal in the fall in most places at least some of those women will be back in the workforce.

The issue is so much more complex than a $300 Fed gov’t boost to state unemployment.

Anyway, having the DCP folks back should help with at least some of the staffing issues but it will take a while before things are back like they were. Hopefully we’ll get some restaurant announcements soon, at least.

Same for us in the same time window--no issues with getting a dining window. The only people who appeared to have trouble with mobile ordering were those who simply didn't know how it worked (and there were a lot of them).

I actually *really* liked mobile order and hope it stays. It was overkill for a few places like Aloha Isle, but I still liked it.
Is there not a problem with the food just sitting there sometime? They get your order, make it, and then call you when your window comes up. In the good old days you ordered and watched them put the meal together within less than five minutes.

The typical Walt Disney Company Cast Member salary is $12 according to Glassdoor. $600/wk equals $15/hr for 40 hours.

I'm contemplating making a park reservation (if available I haven't checked) for MK to see HEA one last time or if I should just watch it from the Contemporary viewing deck since we'll be staying there.
I was planning on hopping over to MK in the afternoon, but thinking I might switch the reservation over to MK for the 30th now. Decisions, decisions.

Most of the time they don't seem to actually put the food on the tray until you get up there. Mobile ordering seems to be more about capacity. This is especially true at places like Aloha Isle. They don't do anything until you get to the window, otherwise the Dole Whips would all melt before you even got there.

I'm in the same boat. Try to park hop over on the 29th or 30th or switch a reservation?

It’s a lot like mobile ordering locally using some of the fast food apps (like Chick Fil A). They don’t prep your Oder until you click an “I’m here” button.

For us (party of four), we just really liked being able to leisurely browse the menu, customize, etc. while waiting in some of the queues. But I totally get that it’s not for everyone.

Thats still how its done. It's the same process, you just order on your phone instead of at the register. Once you click "I'm here" they start to prepare it and you can watch. Or you can hit that button as you are walking there and it will likely be ready, or close, when you get there.

Are you able to customize a mobile order? My son likes the pulled pork mac and cheese at Flame Tree, but he doesn’t like the cole slaw on it. Can I customize in the app that he wants it without the cole slaw?

Looks like a lot of us are contemplating the 30th switch. I just moved a park reservation to MK the 30th.
I forgot I changed our flights so we land before noon too. :)

I tell you what, changing park reservations around Oct 1, always makes me so nervous I will accidentally cancel Oct 1. :scared:

Now, if they'd announce the return of dessert parties for my July stop at WDW, I could catch HEA then without the :crowded:...
