Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun!

We were just there and spent time at both Universal and WDW. Universal just opened everything up without the staff to handle it which meant huge lines for every food stand in the parks. To get a Butterbeer you had to wait at least 45 minutes. I'd take Disney's approach of opening slowly as they get the staff over that any day. I know everyone's bashing WDW right now, and I get it, but we were just there and it really wasn't that bad. If you rope drop you can get most of the rides done. We had a wonderful time and absolutely do not regret going. Just some positive thinking for those with upcoming trips to balance out the doom.✨✨✨
Agreed. 100%.
WDW was far easier to navigate than Universal the last week of June. Don't get me wrong, we still had a good time at Universal, but those Butterbeer and some other lines were just nuts and this was on a weekday visit. WDW lines for food were far longer a few months ago (Jan and Feb) than they are now IMO. Also, navigating the rides and the park was easier at WDW as well.

Rope drop is definitely still worthwhile at WDW! This was the one huge mistake we made at Universal was not going early. It took us forever to get in from the parking lot. We arrived probably 30-40 minutes too late there.

We had 1 person with us who hadn't been since before the Fantasyland expansion and another who only goes once in a while. I felt bad pushing the whole rope drop thing, but in the end, everyone agreed it was so worthwhile getting up and out early.

DisneyFoodBlog reported a description change on WDW’s Jingle Bam fireworks page.

‘..on Disney World’s page for the show, you’ll find a statement that says “Enjoy a holiday spectacular when this jolly fireworks display returns in 2021.” Next to the name, it still says “Temporarily Unavailable”, however this could change before the holidays roll around.’
Could Fireworks Come Back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios This Holiday Season?

This would be great. We really enjoyed that show when we saw it back in 2018. But the best thing about that post is that if JBJB is actually coming back it gives me hope that Disney didn't announce all of the Christmas offerings yesterday. I'm still hoping for the Epcot storytellers and the AK puppets. And if by some chance they announce that the Candlelight Processional is going to happen, I'd be ecstatic! The Processional seems almost too much to expect this year given the logistics of getting all of the narrators and choirs scheduled, but a girl can still hope.

It's honestly gotten to the point where why go?

We went in May (2021) and had the time of our lives. Everything wasn't back, but it was wonderful to be in WDW and have a sense of "normalcy". There is so much that has come back since my trip in May. And plenty of rumors that even more things coming back soon.

My kids have begging to go back this summer -- and we are all very much looking forward to our Christmas/NYE trip.

I'm not sure I'd suggest a "once in a lifetime" family go now, but WDW is still a magical and wonderful trip...

Agreed. It seems that a lot of the negative posts are coming from people who haven't even been recently. When a decent majority of people that I've seen who have returned from trips in the last couple months have had positive experiences. But I guess its nothing new that people just like to have something to complain about.

Putting this in the rumor category, but heard a server at ‘Ohana breakfast this morning telling a family that the characters would “definitely be back there in 35 days”. Not sure how reliable that is, but I thought since they were working at the affected meal and restaurant it was a step above a bus driver…

I also agree with PPs about rope drop and lines not being so bad. MK is not opening anything early- you’re held at the hub like pre pandemic rope drop. But we haven’t had trouble with lines early or late there so far.

I was there last week. We rope dropped Space (left Wilderness Lodge at 8:15, so we weren't there too early for a 9am opening), line filled up quickly behind us. That morning we got on Carousel of Progress, Buzz, PeopleMover x2, and tried twice for Tomorrowland Speedway (once it was shut for a broken down car, the next time for weather. Both times we were next in line with very short waits), BTMR, HM, and carousel before our 12:20 ADR - and that was with rides shutting down for weather. Left for a bit after lunch, came back and hour and a half before fireworks. Finally got on Tomorrowland Speedway, then picked up our mobile order and ate dinner on the turf while waiting for fireworks (although there was space on turf in front of Casey's up until fireworks). After we walked on Jungle Cruise. SDMT had been down since before fireworks, but the CM said they were trying to get it up. 5min in line and they opened the ride. Did another Tomorrowland Speedway, Tea Cups, and Small World. Overall I would call it a very successful day and the waits weren't terrible.

good info! We booked for early august specifically because of the affordable $25 dollar price tag due to the lack of characters. I have some other fun breakfasts booked so no worries if they do come back.

Sounds like a great day!

Yes! We were there mid - end of June and it was a really fantastic trip! Many of the rides were walk on or totally manageable waits - and the cavalcades were SO much fun. It was one of my favorite trips, honestly. :)

Actually I don’t enjoy having something to gripe about. I’d like to get a decent experience from our 7-8k it’s costing. I don’t need to be there to see the wait times, to know there’s no FP, no parades, no meets, no shows.

There is a huge difference between going in May and now. There’s a huge difference between 2 weeks ago and now. So if you haven’t been in the last 2 weeks, you’re no more informed than I am, probably less because I’m constantly reading about conditions in the parks. Recent reports are getting more and more negative to the point people are saying just don’t go right now. I know the pics I saw of my resort being in disrepair aren’t in my imagination either.

But I guess it’s nothing new that people like to judge others.

We booked Cape May Cafe for the same reason. We thought it was very reasonably priced at $25 due to the lack of characters. If they return, that's great, but we'll cancel because I know the price will increase and we don't really want to spend more than $25 for breakfast at CMC.

A teacher I work with was just there last week and they had a great time! She even texted me during her trip (which I was so happy about because I really wanted to know how things were going, but I didn't want to text and interrupt their vacation), and said how much fun they are having. I think it is what you make of it. If you go in with a negative attitude, it isn't going to be a great trip. If you go in with an open mind, you'll have a fun time!

We are going in three weeks and I know everything won't be perfect - it never is, even pre-covid, but we are just so excited to be traveling some where and going back to Disney of all places. I know we will have a great time, but everyone in my family is pretty easy-going and flexible. We don't get worked up about too much.

I know (in real life) three families/groups who have gone recently (within 30 days of today). They all had a great time.

I also think every WDW trip is what you make of it. I'm sure it's possible to go and have an awful time. If that is what someone is sure will happen, it's easy enough to make that come true.
