Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2024 Edition

They have to be putting monsters inc in the star wars launch bay, the place is a ghost town.
Animation Courtyard is a weird dead-end (my wife always expects to be able to cut through there to Aerosmith but can't 😅 ) so while I do enjoy the things in Launch Bay, they're probably best re-housed somewhere else. As it is, it's also weird that DHS presently has three separate corners of Star Wars things (Launch Bay, Star Tours, SWGE).

Granted this is coming at a time where they're finally updating The Little Mermaid show, but I'm sure they can figure something out. I just hope they add a small shortcut (that they can close if they want to) between Monsters Inc. land and Sunset Blvd.

We get to WDW on 31st July next year, the race for the nightime parade is on (surely it’ll be by then, they’ll want it open before Halloween season surely)
Guessing Starlight will debut Memorial Day weekend or sometime adjacent to that
They have announced so much for so many parks!
I have created a new thread for the updates regarding Disneyland Paris. Now that we know more, it's time for it's own thread.

although when marvel announcements happened it was like
One for you Shanghai…and one for you Hong Kong… and two for you California Adventure YOU GO CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE!!!!! …. and none for you Adventure World on to the next segment
Still think Beyond Big Thunder is a bad idea. Should have added rides to the other three parks.
I’m still conflicted on this subject myself especially with DAK’s expansions just being one for one replacements

I thought I read that Big Thunder Mtn was going down for an extended refurbishment- we don’t think it will be rebranded for Cars, right?
Thunder should be due for a longer referb just in general… should just be overall maintenance and wishful thinking of adding projection mapping Frontier Cars is two new attractions no reskins

This baffles me. BSO takes place on a specific day between episodes 8 & 9. Mandalorian stuff takes place just after episode VI. What happened to storytelling and continuity?
They already tossed continuity out with other characters roaming particularly in California… I assume this will occur in 2026 and be a film tie in
Looking at the concept art, it might be a clone, or very similar, to the Cars ride in California. A stand alone ride, not touching Thunder. It makes sense as the mountain scenery matches Big Thunder
They said the racing ride won’t be a clone of radiator springs racers

That said can the attraction being built for younger children be a clone of Luigi?
The next step is seeing just how much is budget cut from the concept art they showed us 😅
Amen
A customer today said they have been going to the parks since Epcot opened in 1982 and refuse to get hyped about anything announced at D23 until it physically goes vertical
It actually looks like the Sum of All Thrills, but on a moving track system.

I am still processing all of this this morning. Where exactly is all of this stuff going? I am not seeing where they said, particularly some of the DLR stuff.
I instantly thought of sum of all thrills and was genuinely shocked we’ve yet to get a proper Kuka ride yet
One of the pieces of concept art for Avatar looked a lot like Grizzly River Run. Which really hurts for me as that area is my favorite section of the park theming wise and I don't give a crap about Avatar.
I feel unless things get delayed and is part of the forward expansion pad it will replace grizzly peak
. Where is that Coco going?
coming from a WDW regular who only went to DCA once I could see it being part of the forward expansion pad or I could see some of the paradise gardens rides get removed since that’s the area plaza de familia is during the fall or honestly since ground wasn’t planned on being broke till 2026 I could see this going the way of cherry tree lane in Epcot
In the Cars attraction concept art we can see Big Thunder in the background. When we analyze the shape and outline of Big Thunder, we can tell that this view of big thunder is from somewhere or Tom Sawyer Island.

I’ve seen the rivers of America is being paved over for cars rumors just like the monsters is replacing muppets rumors from those concepts
We can't be the only people who saw the door chase scene in the movie and immediately said: "Okay, they did that just so they could build the ride, right?"
It’s been rumored/blue sky since AT LEAST 2025

I’ve heard muppets courtyard and possibly star tours becoming monsters

I hear you. I actually really like the concept for Batuu, and I'd hate to see it get watered down. Personally, I'd rather see them add a whole new Mandalorian land with a different landscape, rides, and food--how much fun would that be!

Another land would be amazing or a whole Star Wars park lol. I absolutely love the cohesiveness of BSO. It makes it so easy to suspend belief and pretend you are really in BSO living out your own story- exactly as the Imagineers intended. Breaking the timeline will make it feel like a hodgepodge of things and not a cohesive story. I know they’ve had non-timeline conforming characters but at least that is off to the side and easily ignored. I’ve actually never even seen any of them, just crowds a few times waiting for one of them.

I would hate it if they replaced Muppets or Star Tours. I love the at-at walker outside of Star Tours more than all of Galaxy's Edge. Hollywood Studios near more stuff. It doesn't need to replace existing things.

I doubt Monstropolis will replace Muppets. It’s more likely going in where the Launch Bay is. Also, I’m pretty sure Avatar and Coco at California Adventure will be placed in the park's DisneylandForward expansion area, as the former land would ruin the view for Grand Californian guests, and it would be too small to replace Hollywoodland. Finally, I am certain Villains land at Magic Kingdom will have enough space without taking away part of the Rivers of America. I even doubt that Cars ride will eat RoA.

EDIT: My Cars-related prediction didn't age well.

Am I the only one who finds it a little weird that Villains Land would be in the Magic Kingdom, the happiest place on earth?

Don't get me wrong, I am excited about what they could do for it, but it also just seems " off " to have it there.

Then again, I can't think of anywhere else to put it.

I just hope I don't see those sight lines from other parts of the park. I see a castle high up in the photo. Better not take away from how big Cinderella's Castle is.

I really also wish they did something with COCO, ride wise at Disney World. I much much much more prefer that IP then Encanto, which I personally thought was completely overrated and nothing special. I was thinking maybe swapping the three caballeros with a coco ride, but I doubt Disney would want that crazy line inside there and it stops them.

Car's land should be interesting if it doesn't mess with BTMR. Never really loved the test track ride system though so I wonder if the rides will be exciting. I would rather them put that where the speedway is honestly. but I get it.

Monsters Inc land should be fun. Just not really a fan of more of the current IP but it's ok. Just wish they would do something a little original for the OG's of Disney. The ride there looks really cool.

I'm excited for the future. Can't wait for Epic and now can't wait for this. Competition is great for business. Let's just hope they actually spend the money to make it special and don't skimp on the budget.

I love that it's there and immediately thought back to Kingdom Keepers.......

At the risk of being a pedantic, long-time DISer and Disney super nerd*, "The Happiest Place on Earth" only applies to Disneyland. Walt Disney World is known as "The Most Magical Place on Earth" and that applies to the entire resort. If that makes you feel any better about it anyway.

*Yeah, I know that ship sailed a long time ago. 🤣

Believe it or not, it actually does lol

Can anyone tell me why is there a D23 in Brazil this year

Do they normally have two the same year 🤷‍♂️

Is there meant to be any Florida further announcements at this

I was going to point out the same thing 😂😂

I love when articles from like, NYT or Wall Street Journal refer to WDW as the Happiest Place on Earth. That's when you know they don't know their stuff.

(Not poking fun at you Neverland, I'm poking fun at journalists for major newspapers)

It makes sense for Coco to be in DL over WDW. The Mexican population in California and in the Disneyland park is much higher than WDW. It is going to be huge there and fits right in.

Not saying it wouldn’t be appreciated in WDW but I feel it’s more significant at DL.
