Did they ever stop renewals of APs in CA or was it just no new ones like here?
DLR lawsuit was filed November 9, 2021. Disney did not stop renewals until about May 28, 2022. Disney then restarted renewals August 18, 2022. I do not know if the stopping renewals and restarting was connected to the lawsuit.
No info on if Disney will stop renewals of annual passes at Disney World.
Yep, they “sunset” the old AP program, I think in January of 2021 (or maybe even December 2020). The park re-opened April 21st, 2021, over a year after being closed. They didn’t introduce the Magic Key program until August 2021.
Then it definitely seems as though they paused renewals and sales of MKs due to the lawsuit. When they brought the keys back (about a week before some keys expired), they changed the legal wording and got rid of the Dream Key, which is what the lawsuit focused on. We now have the inspire key.
But I’m still bummed that I didn’t get my WDW AP before our last trip. Our TA advised we wait until we get WDW to upgrade to APs because she still wasn’t sure how things would work with
Genie+ since that had just come out. I will forever kick myself for listening to her.
But it also doesn’t seem like WDW has the same reservations access that we do. It’s calmed down a bit. But, I had the Dream Key, and for a while I could never book a weekend day. But if I bought a single day ticket I could go. It made a lot of us mad that we paid for the most expensive Key specifically for weekend access, but could almost never go on the weekends.
They’ve fixed a lot of that now and it’s easier to make last minute reservations. But last year, if you didn’t book it at least a month or two in advance (3 if you wanted that Saturday), you didn’t get to go.
