So are they going to get rid of the multi day ticket packages and only sell single day tickets or will those still be available but then you would still need to make park reservations?

They’ll have packages. The only things that might be changing here are reservations and park hopping restrictions.

When you buy most multiday tickets, you still have to indicate first use date, which then determines how long it is valid for. So, they still know within a couple of days when you're going to be in parks- they just won't know exactly which day(s) you are making your rest day.

It's only a few limited ticket types (I'm thinking of convention, military) where you get a ticket without it being date linked and I'd guess they will either a) require reservations like APs or b) be a small enough chunk to not be worth worrying about.

Rumor: Major overhaul of Disney Park Pass reservations and Park Hopping coming to Walt Disney World in the new year

Based on significant push-back from guests on the current reservation system, much of the existing Disney Park Pass system will be removed and simplified, providing guests with an experience closer to pre-pandemic conditions.

Park hopping will return for date-based tickets at any time and will no longer be restricted to 2pm. Annual Passholders will still be restricted but will likely be able to park hop earlier than the current 2pm limit.

Date-based Walt Disney World theme park tickets will no longer require a Park Pass reservation, with park entry secured upon purchasing the ticket. Annual Passholders will still need a reservation, at least initially.

Disney introduced Park Pass as a way to control attendance and labor, and these changes in early 2023 may at first appear to be reducing Disney's operational control. However, the new system will control attendance by limiting ticket sales for a given day rather than selling an unlimited number of tickets and restricting access via a Park Pass.

These changes have been in the works for the last few months, and although the system is nearly ready, we understand it will not debut until early 2023, most likely in January.
Not seeing it as a major overhaul. Yeah, day tickets won’t have two steps to complete, but they will still have a reservation and will have to tap into that park before they can hop. As an AP all I can hope for in this ā€œoverhaulā€ is an earlier hopping window. I’m betting we will get maybe noon as our new target….maybe?

Maybe I’m overthinking this, so multi day tickets will still need park reservations then, is that correct?

Right now this is all unofficial until Disney announces something. We don’t know what changes may be made to the system, just that there is a decent possibility of a change to the system beginning next year.

Noon would be acceptable. Slightly annoyed that the rumor is AP will still need reservations, but I can live with it if they let me hop before 2

Anything would be better than 2 for hopping! I'll take noon.
