Disney Marathon - Run For Charity

Two years ago I "ran" in the Disney Marathon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In 2003 I did the Half for Team Diabetes. I am considering getting involved again - I would love to do another charity event, but can't commit to the fundraising amount that is usually involved with LLS. Does anyone know of any other charity organizations that get involved with the WDW Marathon? I like the bonding aspect of the organization staying together at the resorts, the pasta and celebration dinners, etc. I met one of my friends at the Half in 2003. I was looking for something similar. I saw on a website that Joints in Motion (arthritis foundation) has a "virtual" program that asks participants to raise $2500 and you pay your own airfare. That seems doable for me. Does anyone have any info or experience with JIM? Or, do you know any other charity organizations that require less than $3000 to raise?

I'd like to know the answer to this too. I ran the marathon the past two years and also wanted to run for charity but didn't think I'd be able to meet the fundraising commitments for Team in Training. I tried contacting the Make a Wish Foundation a few times but they never sent me any information. :(

I did find one organization that does not have a fundraising minimum - instead they call it a best efforts principle. You raise what you can and you get "reimbursed" for certain efforts.
Example:
When you raise
$500 you get your entrance fee back
$2500 you get your resort paid for
$3500 airfare

The organization is CTF (Children's Tumor Foundation). You can find them at ctf.org. There is a link for the marathon program (Team NF).
I think I like this idea better than having to raise a set amount and pay the rest out of pocket if I don't make the set minimum like for TNT. (I ran for them in 2005, and most of it came out of my own pocket!)
I can get a good deal on hotel and airfare myself. You are still invited to the Pasta Party, get a race singlet, support, etc - regardless of how much you race.
Look at it and tell me what you think!

Check into Team in Training. I'm not sure what their monetary commitments are, but I know my sister was going to look into joining them for the Disney marathon (I'm running too...just not joining a team as of yet).

I've done Team in Training - they are with L&LS. Their fundraising committment is probably somewhere around $4200 in my area. I wound up paying quite a bit of that myself. If you don't raise it all, you are responsible for it. That is why I was looking for an alternative this time.
But if you have the time and ability to raise that amount - it is a great organization to go with!
