I think I know the answer to this but I want to double check.

My family and I will be going to WDW in November. In order to save some vacation days they will be driving the 1000 miles over two days, and I will be flying down to MCO on afternoon we check in. (On return trip home I will be driving with them).

We have a split stay. Checking in BWV on Wed Nov 5, then we check out and move to AKV on Nov 11, checking out of AKV on Fri Nov 14. I want to know whether it is possible for only one person (me) in our party to utilize Disney's Magical Express, and whether I can use it one way (ie from airport to WDW) instead of round trip.

I assume this is no problem

Should be a routine ground ball for you. ;)

To utilize ME for a return trip to the airport, you'd have to do the resort airline check-in, show up at the front desk so many hours before departure, etc. If you're not there, they'll assume you don't wish to use ME for a return to MCO. You shouldn't have to do anything if you DON'T need to use ME for the return trip. Just get in your car and go.

Sure you can. Just make your reservation before hand. If you are using luggage delivery attach your yellow tags and you're off.

As PP, it's not a problem. I've used DME for only half of each trip (MCO to WDW for the first part of a split stay and the WDW to MCO for the second part of the split stay). When you sign-up for DME, just give them your arrival flight information. You don't have to provide any return flight information. However, as the PP said, if you do want to use DME to get from MCO to your resort, you do need to sign up in advance.

I have signed up for MDE just one way on my next trip in August. I will be flying into Orlando and then checking in at Pop Century. From Pop Century I am moving offsite for the last two nights of my trip, so I am not eligible for a return trip on MDE back to the airport.

Sorry, this post is ALL kinds of wrong...

A) You don't need to utilize resort airline checkin.
B) You don't need to appear at the front desk.

What you do have to do...
A) Make a reservation with DME for the trip from your resort to MCO. This needs to be done before the morning before your departure. You can make this now.
B) Read the sheet attached to your door the day before departure. This will tell you when your assigned bus will LEAVE the resort. The assigned time will be three hours before your flight +/- 15 minutes.
C) Be at the DME loading location AT LEAST 15 minutes before the assigned time, ready to board. This means last minute shopping/eating done, bathroom breaks taken, and carryon's collected.

Technically, you are eligible to use DME to return to MCO on your check out day or any day during your stay at a Disney resort. You are just choosing not to return to MCO on the last day of your stay at Pop Century and therefore cannot use DME to return to MCO on the day of your flight. I know it sounds like splitting hairs, but I have read about folks (here on the Disboard), who opt to take DME back to MCO on their check out date, pick up an rental car and then continue on with their off-site/non-Disney vacations. You do not have to be flying on that day to use DME; you just have to use DME during your stay at a Disney resort.
