Hi,
we've been dvc members since 2002. we have a trip coming up in May, split one week at bcv and one at kidani.

We are going down for a weekend in January for my son's birthday, just staying in a disney hotel room so they sent us the magic bands. Our last stay at wdw was in Oct. at fort wilderness and they didn't offer us the magic bracelets that time.

we just got back from disneyland, we bought a photopass + cd while there. They have changed they photopass so that now the walt disney world photopasses are separate from Aulani and Disneyland ones. So out photopass plus cd from disneyland can't have the weekend trip to walt disney world coming up. That's ok, but I won't buy another cd next week just for that weekend. That's too much money for a weekend cd, to me. We are having trouble getting the photopass + code to work, I think because some pictures from Aulani from last summer are still on our photopass account. When I put a cd in the cart, or just download in the cart, it calls it an aulani cd and says that our photopass + is for disneyland.

Anyway, so today in the mail, I get two of the exact same packages, well almost exactly the same. We already have bracelets for the hotel stay. But these are packages for the dvc stay in May/June. It is Mr. Incredible on the box, inside there is a booklet with our name printed on it, and the back page is a tear out magnet for dates for making fast pass plus reservations, dining etc. I know that this is for the dvc stays because the only difference in the two packages is the dates on the magnets are off by one week. But also in each box is a micky shaped usb drive. The drives are 2 gig drives that light up; on each there is a single thing, an html file that is a link to a movie on the disney web site, which is basically just a commercial for my disney experience.

The thing is, who is paying for this? Are my dues going towards mailing out personalized commercial booklets and usb plugs that have nothing on them but a url?

This seems like a huge waste of money to me. The whole changing things with photopass has me kind of upset because it seems like they are messing up something that has always worked in the past. And now they are mailing out packets of junk?

please talk me down and explain that our dues aren't paying for this.

Not sure if this is a shared Disney/DVC expense or not.

I expect that as time goes on the PR push of extra mailings will go away and you will receive one set of bands for your vacation, not a separate set for each resort. The program will be fine tuned and the full potential of the NextGen program will be realized.

but its not just the bracelets, just for the split dvc stay there are two personalized packages each with a usb drive, the usb drive just has a url on it to open a www.disney.com/incredible why couldn't they just e-mail the url?

Because mailing the USBs made you post about it. Sending you the URL probably wouldn't have. There goal is to have people talk about the new way of doing business and it is working.

In the beginning people posted that they did not like the changes and that they would not participate in the testing. Didn't take long for the posts to swing to, how do I get a band and I better be included.

Multiple mailings are wasteful but we don't know the whole reason why.

It is difficult to know exactly where the $ actually comes from. I would guess it is split between several departments, like resort operations (which would be a DVC budget item), park operations and resort marketing. But it could also come out of the management fee which is a DVC budget item that is a set percentage of the total budget, so any increase in mailing would come out of Disney's pocket, not DVC as a budget item.

I guess any publicity is good publicity, even when it is people asking who is paying for this junk.
