I personally have never used a TA and don't think they are necessary. We can help you. October is a very nice month to go hint hint hint.

Hmmm...Your help would be much appreciated. Next year would probably be late August. Maybe after 2010 any time of year would be good, both kids would be college age...woo hoo!!!

This is just too much to think about...Ugh! Too many decisions. I'm going to have to get motivated and dig in to all the web sites and come up with a good gameplan. Then I need to decide if it's all worth it....

Also, would there be any advantage to going through a TA such as Carol or Dreams????

Hey Randy,,

I agree with what Erika and Michele are saying...
We have always stayed on-site. Once with the kids we did off site to much trouble. Before, we had kids we used to do both. We have stayed at POP, and a moderate resort and the Grand Floridian too. But now that we own DVC we only stay there. We love DVC the convience of having more space is the best, and the washer and dryer are a BIG Plus with not having to pack so much with all of the airline restrictions and all. Love the meal plan makes things much easier to pay ahead when you check-in and just have to pay the tips when your done eating. We love the meal plan. Highly, recommend it.
Stayin on property gives you the option of the Magical Express and then you do not have to deal with the luggage and all. We have done both renting a car and not. Truthfully, we do not need a car since we have friends who live there and will bring us what we need. But with that said if you need something you might like hav'in a car. The Disney Transportation has never been a problem for us to use. The parking at MK is a pain so the busses are way better.

You could always rent points if you wanted to stay at DVC and then get your passes. Bruce's work does have a deal with passes if your interested in that, I can get you all information.

Since we will be there in Aug. I could get you the DVC discount on a room if you were going to be there when we were there at the same time!!!!

We have used a TA and done it ourselves, and I would just do it myself so if you wanted to make changes to anything you do not have to call the TA you can just do it yourself and all...!!!!!!!

Kristin, thanks for the info. The discount at DVC SSR is an idea, but I have the feeling that even with the discount it may be a little pricey. But I am interested in getting an idea of how much.

IF we go, it would be sometime during the last two weeks of August. Airfare seems to be cheaper midweek so we might try a wed to wed or thurs to thurs trip.

Hmmm...sounds like a good plan. Do you think any of the off-property places have comp trans to the parks? We had thought about maybe doing other stuff (non-disney related) and thought maybe there were comp shuttles etc to the different attractions.

Hmmm...now that sounds great! I'm not sure if I can get any special deal. Never heard of it, but I'll check. Thx for the tip!

Does everyone usually book one of the dining plans??? If so, which one???

sorry I have not heard of any that offer comp shuttles to the park, maybe someone can tell you for sure.

if they don't offer free dinning while we are there we just might do counter service. I would feel a little tied down if I "had" to make it to a place at a certain time to eat.

Randy, Here's my 2 cents worth...and with the economy the way it is, it won't get you much.... We have stayed off site, value, moderate and deluxe. It just depends on what you need or what you can afford. Off site has it's advantages....we always stayed in a condo, which meant having a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, living room, big screen and a washer and dryer. This was nice for the less expensive trips since we could fix 2 meals a day and just eat one meal at the parks. Could take less clothes, since I could do wash in the evenings. As nice as it sounds, do I REALLY want to cook and do wash on MY vacation? No, not really, but it works. My Brother In Law, he always rents a house with a pool. He is a family of 4, but that's the type of vacation they like. As for value, we have only stayed at Pop Century, and we LOVED it! One of the great things about staying there is, the bus line is dedicated to Pop. It makes NO other stops along the way. If you stay at the All Stars Resorts, the bus will stop at all 3. Moderates are nice, just a bit bigger, and they have a fridge included. When we stayed at Pop, we got on a fridge sharing thread, so we had a fridge for free, so that was nice for breakfast items and water bottles. Then there's the deluxe, even more space and bigger beds, and a fridge as well. I feel, when we stay deluxe, we tend to use the hotel more then when we stayed at Pop. We try not to have a Go! Go! Go! vacation when we stay at a deluxe. We slow down and use the resort ammenities more. If I were going to do a commando vacation, go value, your only going to shower and sleep there. If you were going to go a liesurely pace, spending time at the resort, go moderate or deluxe. I think price wise, the mods aren't a whole lot more then a value. Keep in mind that some of the mods are also convention resorts and are HUGE and can be crowded at times. Meal plans....we enjoy and look forward to a sit down table service meal everyday. It's our time to relax, cool off and talk about what we've done and what we'll see. We have done the Magic Your Way Plus dining, which is the Counter, Table and Snack a day, and we have done the Deluxe dining which is 3 meals a day of your choice...counter or table and 2 snacks. For us, the deluxe is too much food. We are not big breakfast eaters, so the Plus dining plan is good for us. However, if you were planning on doing several of the meals that requires 2 table service credits, it might be worth doing the Deluxe plan. Of course, if you are the type that just like to "Grab It and Growl" then the new Quick Service plan might work better! We like being on the plan because it's all prepaid. There's no thinking about how much dinner is going to be or that little worry because Colton ordered something HUGE and isn't going to finish it. For some reason, it just makes meal time more "carefree". Of course, when tips were included, it was even MORE carefree!!
Okay, I have rambled!! LOL I am sure I probably told you more then you want to know and probably stuff you already know! Happy Planning!

wow thanks so much for your input Michele!!!

great info everyone!! now my head is spinning LOL

does anyone have a chart of which park is less busy for each day of the week? I know I've see this somewhere but I don't remember where!!!! or does that even help at all and don't need to worry about this??????

I know I have seen that too, but I don't know where. I think we are the folks that go against that chart and show up at the parks on EVERY busy day! And here's why.....
When we stay onsite, we take advantage of Extra Magic Hours, so THOSE are going to be the busier days. That's one of the advantages of staying onsite, getting those extra hours. Now, I suppose, since we have a park hopper, we "could" take advantage of those EMH, then hop to another park, but usually we plan our days based on the EMH schedule!

I'm not Nancy, but I would HIGHLY advise staying on property.

He does deal with electric cars, but mostly turf care vehicles and utility vehicles so no major problems yet. My dad however, is a 33+ year employee now retired from Ford, so he is a bit worried about his retirement money.

Nope!!!! Alexa wants some Wii games, but clueless for anything else and for Matthew.

Back to my other comment, on property is the best. The transporation system is wonderful, charging to your room is the best!!! Package delivery to the resort, Disney magic all the time. I am DVC now, but before that a value resort was just fine with me. Pop Century wasn't open yet, but I LOVED the All Star Movies.

Must we go through this again? All he wants is tires for the Mustang :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: I'm so sorry but I had to :)

yeah I read that it was busier during the EMH so I will try to avoid those. We plan on taking 2 full days for each park so we don't have to rush anything. Since Kevin is still little and not very fast I figured we should take our time.

Michelle, once again, you are the bestest  thank you for fixing my leglamp :)

You are most welcome!

and Erika, I see you started a second row on your siggy photos, so "if" you wanted to add another Stitch, I have this one I cropped from a photo, but if you don't, that's okay too!

I got it for Michele before the cruise she might remember around how much it was. I would be happy to call for you to find out around how much.

It was $200 and something a night, if I remember right.

THX Michele,

You know, that is a good price for a very nice resort...It sounds like a little bit more than what we should budget this trip for though. I don't know....maybe...I'll have to consider that with the other options... R

ROFL Michele! On my monitor I am only on one row and actually still have a little space in it. You must have a smaller monitor (mine at work puts it in two rows).
