disney magic europe 2016

Been interesting reading through the comments :)

Loved Tangled too - because we were on a b2b we watched all the shows twice apart from Dreams on the last night, only watched that one the first week because we've seen it on every cruise so far. Did your DD and DSIL go to O'Gills on Tangled night when they transformed it to the Snuggly Duckling, Beth? I loved how they did that, it was good fun.

Our first cruise had 1500+ Americans, 300+ British, 30+ Spanish and then a real mix of other nationalities including Australians, Kuwaitis, Egyptians, Germans, Saudis ..... the second had 1300+ Americans, 600+ British, 300+ Spanish then a real mix again so quite a noticeable difference. It was the first week that the shows were half empty ..... both weeks our table mates were all Americans and they were all suffering badly with jet lag so maybe that explains it?

We're happy to share a table - on our first cruise with our 3 DDs we were placed with a family with one DD whose age was between our younger two, the next cruise with the girls we were obviously meant to sit with another family of 5 because there were another 5 places at our table the first night ..... and again the second night ..... but they never showed so guess they didn't want to share ..... from the third night there were only our 5 places round this huge table! Since DH and I have been cruising on our own we just go with the flow, we have had tablemates ranging from pleasant enough to really really lovely people and keep in touch with the majority of them.

Also been lucky with our head servers too - apart from the first cruise which was only three nights and probably why we only met him briefly we've had quite a lot of interaction with ours, no reason why as we don't have dietary concerns or ask for anything, guess it just happened that way. We usually only give the head server the suggested amount but our one on this b2b was exceptional so he deserved extra.

Very envious of you going on the transatlantic, Wayne! Although I've just changed my job and now I'm no longer working in a school I am no longer tied to school holidays so we may not have to wait until we retire now!

We really enjoyed the last one we did 2 years ago but it was a better itinerary, sailing across to the Caribbean. This time north to Nova Scotia & New York so colder temps. Won't be doing it next year, doing a West coast trip.

i don't know most of the details of her cruise (ogills and things like that) - other than she stayed on board in naples and rome, then went on a full day excursion in livorno (to cinque terra), and got off the ship on their own in villefranche and had a spectacular meal just up the hill in a restaurant in a little square...
she said she wasn't hungry when they got there, but when she asked what fish they had, they said sea bass, so she had to order it...go figure..
anyway, she was whatsapping us pictures nonstop of her food, etc....she ate every last morsel so it must have been super good...
meanwhile, DSIL only had chocolate souffle and coffee (also would work for me...why waste calories on healthy food!!)..
they thought villefranche was beautiful!

actually she called today when she got back to the ship to ask for tipping advice (about tipping extra) and that's when she told me about skipping dinner last night (cariocas in their rotation) to go to tangled twice...
DD and DSIL are professional musicians (she's a singer/songwriter and he's a drummer)..
so if they say that the performers were outstanding, i imagine they really are very good..

that was one of the things they were most looking forward to on this cruise...
DSIL had never been on DCL before and DD had told him that the one thing where disney definitely outdoes Royal is in those theater performances..

oh..one other thing i know they've done a lot on the ship - the kids club openhouses....
no they don't have children, but they went there anyway to play on the xbox and other kid toys there (ha hahahahah)
there are so few kids on this cruise, apparently they had the kids club almost completely to themselves (in naples and rome)..

DD and DSIL called from barcelona (they took a day room at the sheraton to wait for their night flight tonight)..
she started talking about those special "disney" things on the ship, and mentioned o'gills and the snuggly duckling...
they not only went to it, they went to it twice...
once for the family version and then the second adult version..
it sounds hysterical!!! and yes, that's what especially disney about the cruise....that it's total immersion..

by the way, you mentioned how different your cruises were - the first and second...and the different make up of who was on board..

DD said that one of the cruise director's staff - don't remember who, but a guy - that he told them that the european cruises are very difficult for the cruise directors staff....
he especially mentioned that second cruise of yours....he said the spanish passengers were particularly difficult due to cultural differences...and that there was a rather large contingent on that cruise making it especially difficult....even to the point of physical fights between passengers of different european nationalities (so much for the european 'union').....
