If the trip were free I would appreciate it, however the op booked and paid for her trip and expects to receive what she booked. Contracts are only valid until someone challenges them on either side, so no matter the wording in your reservation it can easily be challenged. People are not whining when they pay for something and expect to receive what they have paid for.
But do you think nobody has ever before challenged a hotel's legal right to 'walk' a customer to a different property if necessary? And that it wasn't determined to be 100% legal, in Florida or elsewhere?

You really have to wonder what they are doing with the dining reservations also, probably way overbooking them too

Scarey thought but I know I have read they do overbook Restaurants to make up for no-shows and then when everyone shows up people end up having long waits to get a table
Again, getting off-topic, but dining 'reservations' at Walt Disney World are actually the extreme version of Call-Ahead Seating. They're not true reservations; it simply means once you check in, you'll be seated at the next available table for your party size at or after the time of your reservation, behind others who checked in ahead of you but ahead of walk-ups (in the rate cases where walk-ups are even accepted). And the primary cause of no-shows is Guests who make multiple reservations.

Exactly!!! I don't feel 'fortunate' at all to be visiting Disney. Fortunate implies luck, and my family works very hard for the money to visit. Luck has nothing to do with it. We have put tons of planning into every single trip we make. We choose our resort after careful thought, not just by guessing. So, if Disney were to tell us we had to move, we'd have every reason to be upset (if some of you want to say it's whining, so be it). And, under no circumstances would I be happy with less than what 'I' feel to be fair, not what some of you have said was Disney's 'right'.

That's another point, some of you feel that since Disney pastes a 'right' on a disclaimer that we just have to deal with it and accept the punishment. That's bull. Ball parks put their 'right' not to be sued when a patron is hit by a ball or bat directly on the ticket stub, but people have successfully won those cases for years. If Disney were to pull the 'we have a right to move you' line on us, I would immediately get a refund, and never return. That is my 'right'. Server problem or not, the over-bookings were Disney's fault.

You see, Disney may or may not HAVE to do something to accomodate us, but they DO. If I tell a line of 100 people I'm going to give them $10, then give the first 90 of them $100, it's perfectly reasonable for the last 10 to be upset if I tell them 'Well, I said I was only going to give you $10, so hear ya go.' And it's the same with Disney. Since other posters have said they were upgraded to a deluxe, it's perfectly reasonable for someone to request the same treatment. I don't think it's 'whining' at all.

To an extent I agree with your statement about hard work, but there is luck too. To imply that "hard work" is enough to be able to afford expensive vacations is insensitive to millions IMHO. I feel fortunate to have the parents I have, to live in this country vs in a country where no matter how hard you work you are not free, to attend the schools I attended, etc. etc. Your personal background is mostly "luck" IMHO. Your genetic pool is not a choice.

Yes, we all work hard to visit WDW but there's more to it than that. My Dad worked 3 jobs to help our family get by when I was growing up. We took vacations, but we could never afford WDW. I still feel "fortunate" to visit WDW each year even though I worked very hard to get straight A's in school to get a scholarship, worked hard to graduate high in my graduating class in college, worked hard to get promotions in my job, etc. etc.

Thank you so much.!! I did not expect a debate on this. Things happen all the time.

Disney call me back. I told them I didn't want all stars resorts because of all the kids(the tour groups and bussing)( We stayed at pop last year and pop is a mixture of couples and families.) Then they said when we check in they will let me know where I was gong. I said, That is not fair to me. I would like to know now. I also, said, I am willing to move but to all stars. The castmember was very nice and so was I. I did explain my situation why we are going. So, 20 minutes later, they called me back and they are moving me Saratogo Springs Resort in a studio. I thanked her over and over. She was extemely nice and understood my situation.

Saratoga Spings is a huge resort and I don't care for that. But I am very thankful for Disney trying to make me happy. So now, I am trying to learn everything about this resort.lol

That is wonderful news, I am so happy for you, I have never stayed at SSR but did stay at OKW last year in a studio and the decor at SSR from what I have seen is lovely and I know you will enjoy being in a studio so glad they conpenstated you nicely-Don't worry about the size of the resort I was worried about OKW to but found it to be the most relaxing of all the resorts I have stayed at and the bus system was fantastic

Enjoy Your Vacation

Well, not think. Know. This isn't a disclaimer. Your reservation is a contract. This 'disclaimer' is entirely legal. They DON'T invoke it, except rarely and when necessary. Very, very, very few people* ever complain when Walt Disney World moves the Guest to a better property. It's only when they attempt to sidegrade a Guest that it becomes this apparent outrage.

But your ratios appear off. Granted, the DIS is but a microcosm - but two DISers were upgraded to the Contemporary before anything was offered to anybody else (and weren't given a choice of resorts); the remaining affected DISers are being told Pop is oversold and given a choice of Value resorts instead. For your scenario to relevant, you'd have to first give X people $100 and then give the remaining people in line a choice of, oh, $10 or a $10 gift card or $10 Disney dollars... while the first X people are excitedly talking about the $100 you gave them :lmao:

*Yes, I know - there are people in this thread who will or would refuse to move from Pop, or from WL to AKL, or who refused to move for their own convenience during the AKL construction.

Glad op got this resolved. But make sure SSR is going to work for your party. Remember a studio has one queen and a pull out sofa. We have stayed there twice in a 1 bedroom when my youngest was a infant. Also be perpared for the very limited QS choices at Artist with minimal seating. It's a very pretty resort but with lots of walking. Both times we were in one of the end building once in Paddock and the other in Congress Park. The one good thing if you are in those sections it don't take long to walk over to DTD for a QS meal.

I know everyone is diffrent but personally I would of just picked on of the allstars.

It's just 2 adults, yes, a did go look at QS which ok, planning on eating at the parks. Thanks, so much for the info. I'm used to have 4 people in a room. I am really grateful I get to experience another resort.

I'm really happy for you! :thumbsup2 That's great news! Enjoy SSR!!

Thank you!!

To the OP, I'm so glad they were able to find you an acceptable room elsewhere. The theming is not necessarily as fun for the kids at SSR but you will have a mini fridge and microwave in the room so perhaps you can even bring back leftovers and enjoy them in the room.

I also found it a lot more relaxing there, less chaotic. While they don't have the wonderful selection of the food court at Pop, they do have the Artist Palette which has a fair variety. Plus, there are whirlpools by the pools at SSR for soaking those sore feet after spending the day walking :) And, if you need to do laundry, it's free at SSR! Maybe you can even pack less knowing this in advance.

If you are not renting a car it might be worth asking at check-in if they have anything available closer to where the food is located. There are bus stops through the resort.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Thanks so much for the info. Especially, the laundry! I was looking at the map. I'm thinking, walking..lol This a relaxing vacation. We are just going with the flow.

Thanks!! We stayed at the caribbean before but SSR seem so much bigger. I just happy they did called instead of waiting until we arrive there.

OP - I'm glad Disney got back to you with a solution that you are okay with.

This thread has me really curious about how often getting bumped from a WDW hotel happens. We're staying at BWI over Columbus Day weekend and I'd be so disappointed if we got bumped -- especially if they couldn't put us somewhere else in the Epcot area. So many of our plans are tied to where we are staying, kwim?
thanks!

I am glad to learn that it has been resolved. Now you have a few days to read all there is to learn about SSR!!

have a great trip. I hope you will post a trip report when you get back.:thumbsup2

You know I'd be a lot more willing to believe that this was a mistake on Disney's part if this did not happen repeatedly at this time of year. A quick search showed many threads from last July/August--here's just a sample:

It's hard to give Disney the benefit of the doubt with that server story when the same thing happens over and over again. They overbook during free dining. This is just the first time that they haven't compensated guests with a better room.

Just the other day I was wondering where the threads were about the overbooked rooms at POP. This happens every single year at this time for the last 3-4 years. Never fails. I always joked that if I were going to go to Disney during this time I would book POP just for the probability of getting moved.:rotfl: However this year is different in that they are trying to make lateral moves. I am sure they will call enough non dissers that will actually take them up on the change. So I would not worry too much. Unless you are going on cast member rate. That is a whole different story.

I am just hoping that we are placed close to our friends now. We are d/t be at pop Century the 16th-23rd. Our plans, including breakfast in the rooms are based on being in close proximity to each other, like next door or down the hall.

ETA-- I wouldn't be happy with any of the All-stars d/t my childs issues. We chose Pop b/c it was more centrally located and it is just bussing in that area only.

You will LOVE Saratoga Springs Resort. Outside of our home resort, it is the one we love best. Good for you for being polite but firm and getting a good deal from it. I'm sure the CM appreciated your attitude, as making those phone calls cannot be fun (and no fault of the CM making them either).

Ask for the Grandstand section if possible (1st bus stop going and 1st dropping off). It also has a nice pool area and is close to the main pool and the Carriage House (front desk and restaurant area). The other nice area is the Springs. It's right adjacent to the main pool and Carriage House area. The only downside is it is the last bus stop picking up and dropping off. Seats on the bus may be at a premium picking up depending on the time of day and the park - but another should follow shortly. The Congress Park area is the area that looks across to Downtown Disney. All areas are a nice walk or boat ride to DTD.

It looks much bigger on a map (walking-wise) than it really is. If you've been to Caribbean Beach Resort - it is comparable - but in a different way. Bell Services will drive you on a golf cart to your room upon check in if you don't have a car. All buildings have elevators - so you don't have to worry about stairs when you are tired from the parks. All studios have great balconies or porches and there are some beautiful lake, golf course, pool, garden views (a few parking lot views too unfortunately). It is green and quiet and lovely. We love the selections for QSDP at Artist's Pallette. There is more than meets the eye here.

I hope you really enjoy your trip with no more unpleasant surprises along the way! :goodvibes

Correct, but people seem to be confusing 'rights' with 'contractual agreement'. That's my point. Either party has the choice to walk away.

...or 1 Vinylmation. That's a fair trade to me :goodvibes .

To me, the folks really getting the short end of the stick are those that don't even get the offer to upgrade for free. For years, I've watched while others have been upgraded, and I don't get so much as a PIN code. Disney created this monster. In an effort to appease the first few, they cause greater discontent for those remaining. Either upgrade everyone bumped, for free, or no one. That would be the only fair way.

And don't forget that if you request the Congress Park section, you will be just a short walk from DTD... lots of dining options there :cool1: If you are interested in trying a TS, I definitely recommend the Turf Club :thumbsup2

Although SSR is a larger resort, the theming and amenities are wonderful and I think as 2 adults you will really appreciate them... it is the perfect resort for a relaxing vacation :goodvibes

Ooooo, I second the vote for Turf Club if you want to try a TS. One of the best kept secrets at WDW (oops - now I've done it!). In fact, that is where we will be having dinner on Thanksgiving this year. It is adjacent to a nice little gameroom with a pool table and a bar. You can eat indoors (all clubby feeling) or out on the covered patio overlooking the riverway to DTD. Beautiful.

I'm curios, did OP get dining plan upgraded too? Seems like that should go with the room upgrade.
I, and a lot of you all too, stress over where you are going to stay when you go to Disney. We don't have a "home" resort we like to mix it up. I talk endlessly to my husband about each resort. I show him pictures until his eye glaze over. I finally make the decision then change it twice. If Disney called and said I had to be moved my head would explode. It's just good business to sweeten the deal with a little upgrade.

OP, glad there is a happy ending here for you! :)

Being that close to DTD, you have several great CS options. The best one is Wolfgang Puck express. If you go to the one on the west side, they serve a few dishes on their CS menu that is the same as their TS menu.

This really has not much to do with this, but since someone mentioned the connecting rooms, when we booked ours, we were told they would note the request and that there was no guarantee because it depends on what is available at the time.
We were totally ok with that and are going there (on Sunday ) with the thought that as long as we're in the same building and preferably the same floor, it's all good.
